    Right now I am trying out some Arcus bows. T 5 and 6 and S 5 and 6. Not an easy choice. What is your preferences regarding type/brand of rosin for Arcus bows?

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use Evah Pirazzi Gold rosin and like it very much, but to be frank I haven't tried out many sorts of rosins.

    I preferred the sound of the T9 as it is purer and more simple and that you need more technique to get all the properties out of it,
    In my experience the S series is more responsive and maybe more easy to handle. I found that the T series is maybe more classical and not to new and modern. I find the S is easier to play on and the T needs more advanced handling to play
    I play a T9 nd I find it works well.
    Personally I would buy wooden bow for this price as wooden bows give more resonance and a greater depth and meaning to the sound in my opinion

      Very interesting you tried both yourself as well! I had the opposite: I found the T very easy to handle in a way. Yes, I definitely recognize that the T is more classical. I find that the Arcus bows have a resonance that I didn't find in wood bows yet, but this can of course be personal :).

    The T series sounds broader in my ears. I started to play the Cello 2 weeks ago and looked into what bow to buy to replace the one that came with the rented cello. I was considering the S4 or S5, but now thinking about trying the T also.

      Definitely do and in the S series try round as well as octagonal.

    Does it not also depend upon the individual bow? I can't imagine that every bow, whatever the model, will be identical.

    The S bow made a smoother sound than the T, as if the hair on it was more worn in and therefore slightly slicker than the hair on the T, which might explain the sound difference. Compared to the T, the S had a tiny little bit of chatter on the last few high and fast notes at the end of the first piece that you played. The T bow sounded steadier and more solid during that passage, which I liked better. It looks to me like the T might be a bit easier to handle than the S, as it seems to hold steadier than the S. For the most part though the sound is similar, listening to it on small desk-top speakers.

      Yes, exactly. However the difference might be different with headphones.

    Zlata thank you so much. I own an S5 and I currently have four Arcus 6-series bows at home to test and now I just cannot decide between the T6 and the S6. It's driving me crazy and i cannot sleep anymore😂 To my feeling I would also say the S is more resonant and maybe even more elegant but the T has maybe more richness or warmths or something like that? I btw also play an old German violin which is quite warm and dark in tone but lacks maybe some depths in the lower tones (using nowadays Thomastik PI strings).
    Do you have any advice for me? I just don't know what to do 🥵
    Thank you so much ❤
    Eva

      Hi Eva, I can totally imagine it's hard to decide. Maybe it can depend on what repertoire and in which settings you want to play and what sound would match that?

      Hi Zlata. Thank you so much for your quick response. Yes that's true but the problem is my repertoire is totally mixed, from classical over Irish folk to jazz rock... but I just did another compare and I think the S6 will win. However still some days left to try and to get more confused😅

      @@violinlounge Hey Zlata, I think I finally made a decision and I noticed, that, the T6 is more easy to control for me, the S6 is too light. I have problems with being nervous and playing with not enough weight and the T6 seems to help me a bit with that when on the other hand the S6 sounds beautifully but it makes it very hard for me to create a powerful and sustained (?) tone or to not loose contact to the strings, when you understand what I mean.
      Have a great day and greetings from Germany, Eva

      @@PikkuMyyViolin totally understand what you mean. The T is very forgiving while at the same time top level. Congrats on your new bow!

    The S9 sounded smoother; (I went back and forth over a dozen times) but the T9 has slightly more secondary and tertiary harmonics... I prefer the sound of the S9 over the T9 personally at least with the context of that particular violin.

    ? According to Arcus,
    if you have an old, darker sounding antique violin,
    the S series is a good choice, with its very fast and lively response.

    • @violinlounge
      @violinlounge  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but my violin isn't exactly dark sounding, yet it works.

    I’m confused about the ‘sound’ and performance quality of expensive bows. Regardless of the level of bowing expertise of the player, and attempting to keep thar as a constant, wouldn’t the sound or perceived quality of the bow be more dependent on it’s match to violin and player ultimately ? Bows whose quality is unmatched to the violin and/or the player may be more discernible when below par, and all seem similar when the other way around, I would think.

    He! He! I recieved an email from Zlata today with her precious daughter eating ice cream and i cant wait to see Zlata teaching one of her children violin i think it would be a blast. But we have to wait to see that because her children are still too small to learn violin right now. 😉

    If you buy the sports car S now you no longer have to practice. You just play the violin. Viola!
