Saw this today: the first half made me think "what gorgeous lovely movie, this story is so quirky and fun" The second half beat the shit out of me and left me sobbing for hours after it was over.
It’s worth noting that Japan produces the best animated movie in the world most years. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time(2006), Paprika(2006), Summer Wars(2009), Arrietty(2010), From Up on Poppy Hill(2011) Wolf Children(2012), The Wind Rises(2013), etc. They don’t get the Oscars because they don’t play big in America, but the combination of craftsmanship in the animation and the sophistication in storytelling just isn’t matched in the west.
I think that is exactly the problem. It seems only a limited number of art cinema/theatres are happy to show these films, and so they are seen by only a small number of audiences and not enough word gets out about them. I was very surprised when I saw my local Showcase Cinema (very popular cinema chain in the UK) was showing Your Name for a couple of weeks. Definitely had to get myself down there and watch it. Good film!
I saw it last week in cinemas here in the UK and I absolutely adored it! Honestly, the more I've thought about it, Your Name is probably my favourite Anime film of all time now (and I've seen a lot of Anime films), just because of how brilliantly crafted the storyline and the writing was, but also the animation, the twist halfway into the film, the main characters, the soundtrack by Radwimps, the emotions you feel during the entirety of the 2nd half and of course THAT ending! I really hope it not only gets nominated at the Oscars, but also wins for best animated film because it TRULY deserves it as I consider Your Name to be one of the greatest animated films ever made.
I've seen your comments everywhere. Has Your Name passed up Castle in the Sky for you? I know that's always been #1 for you. For me, Your Name is my 4th favorite animated film of all time (not just anime) behind Toy Story 2, Spirited Away, and The Lion King. It's a masterpiece, and is without a doubt the best film of the year.

That was an incredible review of an incredible movie. Recent story says the director is suggesting people not to watch Your Name anymore as it is mounting huge amounts of pressure onto his next project. Nonetheless, the expectations for Shenkai are now sky high, I don't think anyone can meet them.
The reason I love Anime movies and shows these days it that they really highlight the magic of 2D Animation and the beauty of that, and it's so shamefull that Disney just buried that artform, especially since the lines between Pixar Animation & Disney Animation get so blurry with all the hits Disney Animation has these days. It used to be easy to divide them, because Disney was 2D & Pixar 3D.. I recently watched "The Princess & The Frog" again and it's SUCH a beautiful movie and the way they made that in 2D that it's really sad that they stopped making them. I personally felt that Moana could've been a beautiful 2D animated movie. I'm really excited for this movie now thanks to this review, I was planning to see it anyway but it's nice that this movie got on your radar as well, Grace!

Holy shit, I did not expect this today. I wasn't expecting this video till next year. I've been championing this movie since August. I haven't stopped thinking about it since then, the story is that good. This movie is the next Spirited Away. It's a lot of fun to watch but just as emotional to see at same time. You're either smiling or crying when watching it. This has a lot of replay value to it. Now Shinkai (5 Centimeters, Garden of Words) and Mamoru Hosoda (Girl who Leapt Through Time, Wolf Children) have been the future of Japanese animation for awhile. Those 4 movies above are legendary animes if anyone is new to this but with Shinkai in particular, this is as perfect of a Shinkai movie can get. He deals with relationships a lot, his 2 other well known movies will emotionally defeat people they're that heavy. Your Name is for everyone. It's the best animated of the decade, along with Wolf Children and Wind Rises. The characters are great in this, they're real people. Animation is the best. The music is great. I love how there's like 3 AMV's in this movie to. I even love how they show the doors opening in this. It's a perfect movie. I can't compare it to anything else. It's that original and creative and it's better than almost any other movie I've seen.
Grace, Thank you, for helping me get through everything that's going on, there is so much that I owe to you because of the things you do for all of us, your an Inspiration to many people.
This movie is a romance, my most hated genre. And still I loved the hell out of it. It's just beautiful, and left me an emotional mess. I nearly cried about 5 times during the movie.
I don't think anime will ever get super-popular, it just popular. Just like you said "The powers to be, don't want a lot of people to be aware of it" There are just so many hours in a day, and Hollywood wants you to watch their content and merchandise, not foreign. In reality unless you just hate animation altogether, everybody can become an anime fan just like cartoons, anime is just an art/animation style, it's the story you fall in love with. It doesn't even have to be factored by cultural too, Japanese people love FMA and Aot, White Americans Love DBZ, TLAB (I know it's an american cartoon), and Shaolin Showdown (american cartoon). Also, Miyazaki movies would be more popular if it was not for the population decline Japan has been facing the past decade. Thanks for reading here is a potato: **potato**
DJ Gamera I had to admit I was lost with the abbreviation . I'm actually reading it ( legally , buying the books ) and had watched all the available anime chapters .
The Infidel I was exposed to manga / anime early in my life . Because Spanish translations of anime were more easy to find than English ones . For example , I watched all Spanish DragonBall / Z before Cartoon even considered starting showing it . ( By the way a less censored and a bit better translated version . I had saw both translations . )
I just watched this; it's a masterpiece. If you're not sure you want to watch this, just do it. I can't remember the last time I saw a movie so emotionally spectacular or visually stunning. It touched me on a level I wasn't at all ready for. It was surprising and moving and truly brilliant. Watch it.
Didn't know it existed until MyChonny tweeted out about it. Then you're the second person i saw to even mention it. Haven't seen any adverts, no nothing. Down here in Australia, anime is pretty under the radar, unfortunately. Rarely will they even show up in the cinema, and most places you can only buy the shows or movies, etc, are at select stores. But i'll definitely be making a note to watch it before it hit the stores with it's English dub :)
I'm down in Melbourne. The city is good for finding anime, JB Hi-Fi is too, and yeah libraries, but the selection is severely limited and doesn't have more unknown stuff like Elfein Lied, etc etc...
Grace!! I'm so glad you made this video! I just watched it and I am so astounded and fascinated! Thank you so much for making a video on this. I never knew what I needed until watching this movie. I'm still bawling my eyes out. 😭❤️
You should watch Garden of Words, another film by Makoto Shinkai. It's breathtaking. Just like this movie, it made a park in Shinjuku very famous. I went to Japan a couple of months ago, and I visited the park. As expected, I wasn't the only person dying to take a picture in the most important location of the film. Really, his work is truly amazing!
Long-time fan, first time commenting thanks to this movie review! No spoiler review for the best animated movie of 2016? 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 I want a breakdown of the characters! WE NEED ONE! And thanks for reviewing it!
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie Grace! You should also check out Shinkai's other movies like The Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters Per Second :) They are older works but still amazing stories
Hi Grace. Long time viewer, first time commenter here. I'm excited to watch Your Name after watching your review and was pleased to hear that it can be a gateway anime film for the uninitiated. I felt the exact same about an adored 2016 12 episode anime series with the English title "Erased" (Japanese title: Boku dake ga Inai Machi). It's a murder mystery with a total runtime of ~4.5 hours and is available streaming. If you've watched it or happen to watch it, it would be great to hear your thoughts. Lastly, you're awesome! Thank you for all the phenomenal content that sometimes my wife and I debate over.
A nice surprise to see Grace covering an anime feature and you've made some very refreshing & interesting points in the video! As of today, this film was just passing 'Howl's Moving Castle' and became the 2nd place on Japan box office history (after 'Spirited Away'). Also, this film was just released here in Mainland China last friday and top the weekend with $40M+ in box office (Note: released same day with Moana ) breaking all the records of Japanese films in China, and likely soon to set a new historical record for Japanese film in China box office. I know that anime is still for niche audiences in US, but I do hope it get more attention like it did in here.
Thanks for this review Grace. I'd recently heard about this film & am curious to see it. After watching your review, now I'm EXCITED to see this movie & I will tell my friends about this film!!!
I'm so happy you watched it Grace! I was thinking of tweeting you after I watched it to tell you that you should see it when it comes out in theaters, but I just don't use twitter. I love Your name. It made me care so much about these characters that at the end of the movie when the song started playing I was crying for a straight 2 minutes after which I started laughing while still crying because of how absurd it seemed that I was crying because of fictional characters.
this is in my watch list, I still haven't watched it. I watched the trailer and got goosebumps for 5 minute and everytime I think about the trailer I get goosbumps for 1 minute, I really need to watch it oml.
hey grace, recently in a variety article HBO programming director Casey Bloys, in an article about westworld, said that because of the New Game of thrones schedule it will not be eligible for the Emmys next year, opening oppurtunities for westworld to win next year, what do u think of that?
Internet has U.S release date of December 2nd, but I don't see it at any theaters for miles upon miles, which is rather impossible. Anyone know if it's actually been released yet in U.S.?
great review !!! Convincing someone to watch a anime is not the problem. Hollywood has placed a huge stigmata here in the U.S. The mainstream believe the medium of animation is a tool to tell poop and fart jokes to kids. Just look at the slew of animated films released here. Also hate to break it to you, Grace. We anime fans in the west have almost 0 influence of determining the finical success of an Anime /Manga property. Their are few animes that get green lit a second season because of poor dvd sales. Now their have a few success stories. Trigun was very popular in the U.S. but not as popular in Japan. We got feature film long after the anime ended it's run.
Finally watched it on amazon video last night. Loved it. Very good anime! I loved the drawing style and the ost. Not totally ghibli style feelings coming from it but close enough.
I came back after watching it and it was amazing, stunning both visually and story wise. Then I found out it was by the same director as 5 centimeters per second and it all made sense. If you liked this I really recommend watching 5 centimeters per second Grace I also enjoyed The Garden of Words by him as well.
There is so much symbolism used for the themes such as the ying/yang contrasts, the disaster, love, and connection & separation in this movie that I couldn't help but feel there is some sort of thematic commentary to be found. Interestingly for all the numerous reviews ive read and watched no one ever delves into whether or not there is some sort of commentary/theme. Which makes me think that at its core the story is just trying to convey the feeling of love when it challenged by things separating the main characters.
Hello Grace, I loved your review of this movie. It seems really intriguing, especially as an anime follower. However, (I know this out of topic) when do you think the Spider-man: Homecoming trailer is getting released? At CCPX, they announced that a "worldwife trailer will be released soon", but I'm wondering how soon? These next few hours/days soon? Or the next two weeks soon? I'm excited to hear what you think.
Skyebright1 First Image: Civil War Image of Peter. Second Image: Logan Lerman in Perks. Third Image: Spider-Man from Civil War. Fourth Image: Spidey from TASM2 Times Square scene. It's fake.
The 'Spider-man: Homecoming' teaser trailer might be released with the US theatrical opening of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' on Dec. 16th. Mainly speculation of course.
the names you need to know for anime movies are: Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Hosoda, and Makoto shinkai. They are the big three when it comes to animated films.
I think you may be forgetting Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies, Only Yesterday, The Tale of Princess Kaguya) and Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Arrietty, When Marnie Was There) who are both well known and respected members of Studio Ghibli who each have an Oscar nominated film to their credit, The Tale of Princess Kaguya for Takahata and When Marnie Was There for Yonebayashi. Your Name honestly might be Shinkai's first wide-sweeping hit as his other films had no where near this amount of support behind them critically as well as financially. Some received critical praise but were not as widely liked by general audiences and others were liked by their target demographic but were just good to the critics. Hasoda's major films have all done pretty well in both categories and he definitely stands upon the Mt. Rushmore of Anime Film Directors
My favorite anime movie is Grave of the Fireflies... that thing hit me hard in the feels. Gonna watch this one. I have to wait for the home release though. Here, anime movies are rarely released in the theaters
Actually Miyazaki's last movie (The Wind Rises) was not only his most evolved but his most mature and among his best. Success as you are defining it (financial) does not equate to quality, had that been the case then many of cinemas now established classics been swept under the rug. Before Miyazaki audiences haven't seen anything like it (hence the financial success), now they take him for granted.
So do you think they'll submit this movie for best foreign language film only or also best animated film? I'm assuming that the English dub would be eligible for best animated film. Is that the plan?
if anyone is wondering who shinkai is, he is the guy who made his first film animated by himself.. on his laptop. so yeah pretty much animation genius. satoshi kon and shinkai are quite underrated. both have made some of the best animation in the last few years.
big fan of Shinkai and his work, so glad you enjoyed the film, Grace. Hope to see it once it gets a stateside release. If I could recommend other Shinkai films you might enjoy, you should take a look at Garden of Words and 5cm per second, both beautiful well written films.
I'm curios about the dub now. Are they going do what Disney did with Ghibli and hire celebrities for the roles or get voice actors who are voice actors by trade? Grace who would you want for the English dub of Your Name?
Grace I know videogames are not your thing but you should react to Death Stranding's new trailer. Kojima is one of gaming's biggest icons and the game looks very cinematic.
I just watched it and it's a fantastic movie! I'm a bit emotionally unstable cause it was a lot more than I expected hope it's gonna get all the praise it deserves! COME ON ACADEMY!
I've got to say, anime, and manga, are very diverse mediums, and there are a lot of up, and a lot of downs. But I think what greatly differentiates it from a lot of western media, especially animation, is the ability to take risks. Japanese culture has a lot of diversity, and there pretty much a market for anything there, and gems like this can come out. By the way, my favorite anime movie is Grave of the Fireflies.
I watched the English subbed version and I thought it was amazing. It wasn't that hard to keep up with the subtitles. I'm going to rewatch the dubbed version when it comes out
A great anime film all around and it also had a very unique plot device to get the two main characters together. Also, Grace - it's not pronounced 'main-ga', but instead, 'mahn-gah'. A japanese friend of mine cleared up my mispronunciation. :)
I'm not worried about anime reaching the west, I'm worried about the west reaching anime. I don't want certain PC ideals to pollute such a great culture and medium.
I just want to ask anyone who have watched this movie: did any of you pick up that one giant plothole that could've changed the entire movie? They're students in school. Naturally, they should've at least asked "what's today's date?", or look at the calendar. They could've realized they were in a different time period the moment that happened. And yet somehow, they never looked at the calendar. But then, didn't she appoint a date for him? And checked it on his calendar? Wouldn't she have known the different year?
You know, I thought about that. but then I asked myself... When was the last time someone asked for the year? or when was the last time I looked at the actual year when I was checking my phone? Even my calendar, iPhone and they use iPhone, mainly shows the days, not the years. Everyone pretty much knows it's 2016, and no one asks what year it is haha. Also, most people leave out the year anyways when you ask them for the date.
It's an extremely small detail that they don't remember when they wake up. Their memories of what they did in the other's body are hazy when they wake up. They may remember they set a date for the other, but I doubt they'll remember the amount of money they spent. The date falls in with the latter. Really the only big giant plot hole one could see is how the diaries magically disappear midway for no other reason than dramatic effect.
Birdie Wolf THIS. You use your laptop, you see the year. You watch the news, you see news related to that year. I'm sorry, but I don't buy this shit and all the other plotholes done out of pure convenience. Movie was still enjoyable though.
Tess Tran It was enjoyable. I love romance movies no matter how good or bad they are. Other than the amazing animation, I am not seeing the Oscar people are claiming it deserves though.
+Apple of Idunn I just saw The Wailing last night coincidentally and loved it even more than The Handmaiden. I couldn't believe it was actually on Netflix. This has been such a great year for horror, and I think The Wailing is the best of the bunch.
Grace, if you like Your Name, you should check out Shinkai's other works. Although not all of them are good, they are all breathtaking eye candies. Hid works are known for his stunning blend of realism and fantasy in vibrant colors. His with "Garden of Words", is famous for his beautiful the rain looks.
The poster made me think of "5 centimeters per second", ha not surprising it turns out. The director also made Garden of Words, two of the best anime of the last 10 years. Not only can he tell a very emotionally charged story, technically his work is also superb. I'm looking forward to watching this!
The village of Itomori dose not exist while the model is Hida city in Gifu Prefecture. Also the model of the lake in the anime is Suwa lake in Nagano Prefecture which is the home town of Makoto Shinkai. So the countryside in the movie is made by combination of multiple existing sites mainly in Northern Gifu area. fastjapan.com/en/p112544 kininarukininaru.hatenadiary.jp/entry/2016/09/11/%E3%80%90%E5%90%9B%E3%81%AE%E5%90%8D%E3%81%AF%E3%80%91%E9%A3%9B%E9%A8%A8%E3%81%AE%E8%81%96%E5%9C%B0%E5%B7%A1%E7%A4%BC%E3%81%BE%E3%81%A8%E3%82%81%EF%BC%81%E4%BD%8F%E6%89%80%E3%82%84%E3%82%A2

Viet Lee you made me nervous but the spud came through
Viet Lee I have to admit I'm a little confused. Which anime / manga is AoT?
"Attack on Titan". Its quite a popular anime and manga series.
DJ Gamera I had to admit I was lost with the abbreviation . I'm actually reading it ( legally , buying the books ) and had watched all the available anime chapters .
The Infidel
I was exposed to manga / anime early in my life . Because Spanish translations of anime were more easy to find than English ones . For example , I watched all Spanish DragonBall / Z before Cartoon even considered starting showing it . ( By the way a less censored and a bit better translated version . I had saw both translations . )
You are a wonderfully insightful commentator of films that goes deeper into each work than most reviewers do. I commend you and I have subscribed :)
That's too bad, I live on the Gold Coast and quite a few people turned up to the screening I went to for this film.
If your in Melbourne, it's showing at Century City Village Cinemas
A massive thank you!!
How did you see this? I don't see screening in NYC
If you really liked Shinkai's work, Grace, I'd highly recommend watching some his other films like Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters per Second.
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. A movie has never made me cry like this.
wow u nailed the review! all these factors you were talking about, I thought about it as well but you articulated it in a perfect manner
Garden of words was amazing! I actually cried. The animation was stunning.
dont make a live action english version of your name because DragonBall evolution.
Now 🤷♂️ because alita battle angel
Had no idea you reviewed anime lol I've been hearing so much about your name all year! Hopefully I'll get to watch it soon!
Is it an upgrade on traditional rotoscoping? Or is it a new technique entirely?
Long-time fan, first time commenting thanks to this movie review!
No spoiler review for the best animated movie of 2016? 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
I want a breakdown of the characters! WE NEED ONE!
And thanks for reviewing it!
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie Grace! You should also check out Shinkai's other movies like The Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters Per Second :) They are older works but still amazing stories
This sounds amazing. I'll definitely be watching it. And then again next year in English hehe :)
I loved this film too Grace. So happy you did a review of it! Loving the videos!!!
Where can I watch this, is it up for legal streaming on any sites?
Correct: released a week after Moana, not same day
how can i watch this movie?? and will an english version be released in the future?? if anyone knows, much thanks
How were you able to watch it? I really want to see it!
Wow! Thank you for covering this Grace.
awesome video, Grace! Imma go watch it for sure^^
hey grace, recently in a variety article HBO programming director Casey Bloys, in an article about westworld, said that because of the New Game of thrones schedule it will not be eligible for the Emmys next year, opening oppurtunities for westworld to win next year, what do u think of that?
Internet has U.S release date of December 2nd, but I don't see it at any theaters for miles upon miles, which is rather impossible. Anyone know if it's actually been released yet in U.S.?
meg it will have a wide release in early 2017
great review !!! We got feature film long after the anime ended it's run.
stridin
Agreed
Anime creators need innovation
Like Spongebob?
Finally watched it on amazon video last night. Loved it. Very good anime! I loved the drawing style and the ost. Not totally ghibli style feelings coming from it but close enough.
this movie is already out yet?!
One of the best award winning reviews I've watched on the award winning film, Your Name! :)
I saw this at bfi film fest and it was the best animated movie I have seen since ponyo! Loved the music too!
I was already planning on watching this because I'm an anime fan, but now I really want to watch it.
I saw this movie on the flight home from Japan, I really loved the story and the visual.
I know you said an English dubbed version comes out next year but do you know when exactly it comes out is it like a Summer movie?
Shaelyn Fritzler it's suppose to come out early 2017
Kimi no Na wa is my all-time favourite movie of 2016
Hello Grace, I loved your review of this movie.
Skyebright1 You mean the footage itself is leaked?
Skyebright1 First Image: Civil War Image of Peter. Second Image: Logan Lerman in Perks. Third Image: Spider-Man from Civil War. Fourth Image: Spidey from TASM2 Times Square scene. It's fake.
The 'Spider-man: Homecoming' teaser trailer might be released with the US theatrical opening of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' on Dec. 16th. Mainly speculation of course.
DJ Gamera I think so to, especially with the new logo release. We might get a poster soon.
Hessa T. - Exactly. :)
the names you need to know for anime movies are: Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Hosoda, and Makoto shinkai.
I didn't like anime before this. now I dont know what to do it has taken over my life help me
Papergirl watch your lie in April!!!!
I love so much that you reviewed this! thankyou!
My favorite anime movie is Grave of the Fireflies... that thing hit me hard in the feels. Gonna watch this one. I have to wait for the home release though. Here, anime movies are rarely released in the theaters
sgecko7 Grave of the Fireflies is an amazing movie. Makes me BALL my eyes out every viewing though 😭
I am already crying
sgecko7 supposeably according to funimation your name is gonna be released in American theaters in early 2017.
sgecko7 you brought up the feels...
Sol3Chris I wonder if Grace has seen GOTF. Dont remember her saying she's seen it. I am curious about what she'd think about it.
When will it be dubbed?
Okay I gotta watch this film. I love anime and I've heard nothing but great things about this movie. When do it down in the US???
Actually Miyazaki's last movie (The Wind Rises) was not only his most evolved but his most mature and among his best. Success as you are defining it (financial) does not equate to quality, had that been the case then many of cinemas now established classics been swept under the rug. Before Miyazaki audiences haven't seen anything like it (hence the financial success), now they take him for granted.
grace im so glad that you reviewed this movie and im also happy that you watched 😍😍
how do I see this movie?
I really like your energy. Keep up the good work!
This deserved the Oscar award...
Yes Grace! Thanks for reviewing it. Honestly my favorite foreign film and now 3rd or 4th favorite film of all time.
So do you think they'll submit this movie for best foreign language film only or also best animated film? I'm assuming that the English dub would be eligible for best animated film. Is that the plan?
Beautiful Anime. One of the best ever made
I went to see it in cinemas in Australia today, I really enjoyed it.
I didn't know what to think of it for a while, but I really dug it by the end.
first time watch your channel, love it ^^
I'm really glad you liked this movie!! I really want this movie to have more exposure in the west!!!
Is this out now with English subs?
have you watched the video?
if anyone is wondering who shinkai is, he is the guy who made his first film animated by himself.. on his laptop.
so yeah pretty much animation genius.
satoshi kon and shinkai are quite underrated. both have made some of the best animation in the last few years.
big fan of Shinkai and his work, so glad you enjoyed the film, Grace. Hope to see it once it gets a stateside release. If I could recommend other Shinkai films you might enjoy, you should take a look at Garden of Words and 5cm per second, both beautiful well written films.
It was a very confusing and breath taking movie that made you think which is what I love about anime like this!
Just Watched... What A Movie....... Wow....
Thanks for Telling Grace !!
I'm curios about the dub now. Are they going do what Disney did with Ghibli and hire celebrities for the roles or get voice actors who are voice actors by trade?
Grace who would you want for the English dub of Your Name?
I just finished watching it. My expectations were low to be honest, but this excellent movie exceeded any expectations I could have had.
Grace are you going to be able to talk about CW crossover?
Great review! Can't wait to see it!
You've convinced me to see and recommend this movie!
I'm not worried about anime reaching the west,
I'm worried about the west reaching anime.
I don't want certain PC ideals to pollute such a great culture and medium.
Cowboy Bebop.
Japan will never buy into that crap. Believe Japan.
Great review! I'll be definitely seeing it.
But they write each other messages. Like 'why does your calendar say 2016, it 2013.' I also doubt TIME TRAVELLING would be a small detail.
While you're at it, Grace, review "The Wailing" and "The Handmaiden". 2 great Korean films.
The Handmaiden is great! I loved the plot twists. It really makes you look at the film differently on a second viewing.
Love the Wailing! It needs a sequel!
+Apple of Idunn I just saw The Wailing last night coincidentally and loved it even more than The Handmaiden. I couldn't believe it was actually on Netflix. This has been such a great year for horror, and I think The Wailing is the best of the bunch.
Jake G 2187 The Wailing surprised me the most this year. Thought it's going to suck just based on the first 30 minutes but got blown away by it.
can you do a review on koe no katachi and compare to this movie?
Koe No Katachi is not available anywhere else except Japan currently
Will you do a Star Wars Episode 8 update please!
No film has cracked my top ten favorites list since the Matrix. Your Name just did it. How did I miss this film when it came out?
I love anime so this is one I will be happy to check out when it becomes available. Thanks for covering it Grace.
D R-K did u like it
The poster made me think of "5 centimeters per second", ha not surprising it turns out. The director also made Garden of Words, two of the best anime of the last 10 years. Not only can he tell a very emotionally charged story, technically his work is also superb. I'm looking forward to watching this!
Is it that itomori really exist at japan ? I really want to know *_*
The village of Itomori dose not exist while the model is Hida city in Gifu Prefecture. Also the model of the lake in the anime is Suwa lake in Nagano Prefecture which is the home town of Makoto Shinkai. So the countryside in the movie is made by combination of multiple existing sites mainly in Northern Gifu area.
