I know this is an older video, but even now you're just as down to earth. You will forever be my favorite youtuber. Would LOVE to see an update on this!!
You're awesome! I agree that other bloggers can be snobs with the sponge tip applicators. or stuck on the same brands, love your drugstore makeup reviews 😍
Thank you for this!!! You are sooo right about Cover Girl, btw. Even within the last 2 years, I've noticed a marked improvement on the shadow formulas and pigmentation.
I recently found your channel & am so glad I did! The videos have taught me so much already & I Love that you're not all about crazy expensive make-up & skin care! ♡
I agree with the applicators! They are so underrated! They're great for not only applying shadows, but also smudging out eye liner or contouring. It just makes it a lot more simpler having a small applicator that comes with the product rather than trying to dig in a brush collection trying to find a smolder brush.
I stumbled on Sheer Red by NYC before I started watching your videos, and I agree. It's awesome! It was what convinced me that I could wear red lipstick.
I SO agree about the foam applicators! It makes me upset that if you use them, you're kind of "looked down upon", if you know what I mean. Unless you have super expensive brushes, they work a lot better for applying than most brushes.
I love the fact that you use a wide array of makeup. You do tutorials featuring drugstore and high end. That opens up possibilities for all of us! Thank you for sharing.
I know this is a really old video but after watching it for the first time yesterday, I went to Claires and discovered their BRUSHES are amazing!! You should check them out :)
You should do a video about unexpected uses for different things. Like using a toothbrush to exfoliate lips or those round cotton things for applying powder. Also, off-label uses for cosmetics (lipsticks as blushes, powders for hair... etc lol) that'd be cool!. Or makeup emergency solutions! That's be great.
i am so glad you said what you did about the sponge tip applicators. I dont wear a lot of makeup so I often look at videos to see which supplies I need and lately I have been feeling as though I need a set of brushes. I'll stick to the applicators that come with the shadows and see how that works for a while. Thanks for the tips!!
I absolutely love you. Is so great to find a makeup guru who isnt all about the super pricey makeup. When you were talking about the sponge tip applicators, I was so happy because your so right.. a lot of people are just too good to use them. I have makeup brushes that I love, but the sponge tips sometimes are just the thing to do the job well!! Thank you EMILY!!
i love how you are one of the beauty guru's who gives drugstore products a try espcially the ones that are suppppppppperrrr cheap and you give them a try!
YAY! I'm happy that you mentioned the Mary Kay loose powders! They work amazingly, not just for everyday stuff, but for theater make up as well. They're so long lasting and stop the shine whenever I go on stage. I also use them for everyday looks too, since my skin can get kinda shiny just from the sun. Thanks for mentioning this, again.
I absolutely LOVE the Essence of Beauty crease brushes! I heard about them from you and went out and bought them and I have seriously used them every time I've applied eyeshadow ever since. I really could not do without! I also love the Jordana lipgloss in Lovely! One of my favorites if not my alltime favorite lipgloss of all time! You are by far my favorite beauty guru on TH-cam :)
you're my favorite guru because you're one of the only ones who are so down to earth! you dont make your viewers seem like they HAVE to have high end products to have a good makeup collection! so thank you for that :) and i definitely agree with your video. also, i have those essence of beauty brushes and i love them as well, work so great!
I´ve tried to love the applicators.. but I really hate/dislike them... I´ve not thrown a single one out, but I never use it, unless I´m really in need of some fast application. the sponges take too much eyeshadow which doesn´t apply much to the lid, and it feels very scratchy when you apply your shadow with the sponge tip applicator. they´re just... bad...
Thank You!!! It is LOVELY to see a beauty guru talk about drugstore products!! everyones so focused on high end this and high end that, when some drugstore products can do the job just as well at a fraction of the cost!! :)
I agree about the sponge tip applicators. They can be very useful, especially placing shadow on the lower lashline. Sometimes brushes just give you too much fallout and waste alot of product. Lots of times I use the sponge to apply and then use a brush to blend out. The Claire's pallets are magnificent! I have about 6 or 7 of those! love them! :)
This type of video is exactly why you are my favorite guru. You tell it like it is no matter the price. You aren't stuck on Mac or other high end brands as being the "be all, end all". Thanks so much for making me feel like I'm not any less of a makeup fanatic just because I don't shop at Mac!
I love this video! Since I started watching your tutorials a few months ago, I've gotten more open minded about trying drugstore products and there are definitely some gems out there.
wow! The Claire's shadow has improved! I had thrown out my old palette a couple days ago because all the colors were very light when applied (black, white, blue, all very just too light and shimmery). Your swatches were MUCH more pigmented. Thanks! :)
I completely agree with you on everything! Especially the eyeshadow brushes. I absolutely love them! I love the pointy tip. They are amazing! I love covergirl eye shadows! If you haven't tried shimmering sands you definitely should! They are shimmery of course but they are gorgeous!
I've been a makeup wearer for about a year now and I'm 35 and I've managed to get so into it that I have shadows from so many different brands. I started with CG shadows and I have to agree. Now, I have Urban Decay, Mac, Coastal Scence, Dior, Makeup Forever, etc, and once in a while, I still reach to my Cover Girl palettes because the colors are very nice and you are right, some of them are very pigmented. Not all of the are great but they do have some awesome palettes. You are awesome!
I love this video... Not just because of the products but because of the POINT. It's so true about the sponge tipped applicators. They really do put color on very well. When it comes to blending and things like that then yeah most people would grab a brush but as far as just putting on color, they do just that! Thank you for making such awesome videos!
I love using the sponge applicators. I also wore Cover Girl makeup as a young teen when I first starting using makeup. I also like the Bonne Bell Lip Lites (I have Cream Pop which is a shimmery bubble gum pink color). I will definately be checking out the Claire's shadows. Thanks!
i love your attitute so much. you always try to search and show your subs good products that do not cost the world. you are always honest and so lovely to your subscribers. thank you!
I agree with you about the sponge-tipped applicators! I keep all mine and use them to apply my highlight color under my brow and on the inner corner, because it packs on color better than any brush I own!
I literally JUST bought a Claire's eyeshadow palette yesterday before seeing your video, and you're so right. I had bought it because it was a cheap palette to pop the colors out to use the actual plastic palette, but I was SHOCKED at how pigmented the colors were. I got the big 72-color palette, and it's surprisingly awesome!
I've tried countless foundation brushes but the one i really liked is from Claire's! It has a smaller brush on the other end for concealer and it's super high quality! The only Claire's product I don't like it the little palette of glitter shadows, they're pretty much loose glitter in a substance that feels like petroleum jelly and creases a lot.
GREAT VIDEO IDEA! every guru does the same old high end hauls, and smokey eye looks. You keep your video's unique and creative to the point that anyone can get something out of your videos. Truly a great personality and caring guru :)
I love the essence of beauty crease brushes so much!! When we´ve been to the US last year I went for Walgreens the first night to get them and the rest of the holiday I only used these for the crease/under eye work. The small one is much more precise than my MAC 219 and the larger one is applying and blending the crease color at the same time, it´s what I wanted the MAC 226 to be. Now I have to add some more items to my US order wishlist!
Emily you are simply great. I love how fresh you are and how you can also appreciate the cheaper options and tell us about them. Thank you for every video!
My favorite Go to eyeshadow for my lid is minx by CG...it is sooo pretty when you put a shadow base underneath!!! I think it is GREAT that you made this video...its hard to find makeup products that you can buy on a budget!! Cudos to you for a GREAT video!
I agree, those sponge tip applicators are great for packing on eyeshadow. They're not so great for blending, but still a very underrated tool. I actually used those exclusively for years when I was younger before I had ever heard of eyeshadow brushes lol.
I loooove the Bonne Bell Lip Lights. I have used Mocha Mousse since high school, and have gone through at least 5 tubes of it. I really like that it is not shimmery at all. It is just a beautiful creamy lipgloss. Smells amazing and is wonderfully pigmented. I rave about this all the time!
I soooo agree on the sponge tip applicators. I find they come in especially handy with eyeshadows that aren't as pigmented as they should be, then the sponge tip really picks up more colour than any brush.
LOVE, Love, love NYC Sunny!! Wearing it today and most days -- nice, matte bronzer. NYC has good blushers too. I've always used Sutton Place Peach and it's my total fav. Runs out easily so I always have to stock up at Rite Aid. Also LOVE Elf, people are total snobs when it comes to ELF but it's really great. You're awesome Emily! Thanks for all the great videos and tutorials!!
I definitely agree with the Covergirl and Claire's ones! And I once did a review/swatches video of my CG eyeshadows and got lots of comments telling me that they were horribly pigmented, etc. So I think people just haven't tried them in a while and wrote them off a long time ago.
Emily, you were so right about the sponge applicators being useful. I was using Loreal single eye shadow called frosted icing to highlight my inner corner, it worked like a dream!!! Because it was pointy so it got to the small area for no problem. Thank you for the advice, I will never throw them away anymore, NEVER!!!! I am no longer sponge trashing snob!!! :)
Cover Girl Shimmering Sands eyeshadow trio is my favourite. I love it! It's versatile, in that I can wear it to work, or I can just add some darker liner or mascara and I am ready for the evening. I think a lot of ladies in my next of the woods love it too, because I can rarely find it in stores. I actually thought it was discontinued at one point.
I love your videos! You are so honest and I love that I can trust your opinion. You are very down to earth and not fake whatsoever. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Cover girl was the first eye shadows I used when I started with makeup. I agree with you about Essence of Beauty brushes. I have the double ended set. I don't have these two. May pick them up.
been wanting to jazz up my makeup collection, but don't want to break the bank. Definitely looking for those Claire's eyeshadow palettes. Thanks for the tips!
Great vid ♥ Gorgeous as always!!! Love elf and Jordana!!! Love the pretty shine lippies!!! I love my NYC lippies, I got mine at the Dollar Tree. I must buy that red!!!
hallelujah and finally, someone that respects the sponge tip applicator! i love them especially those that have about a 2 inch stem like the ones from sally's-not only do they have about a 2 inch stem but they are a pretty pink color. so hah much love for the sponge tippies!!
Great choices Emily. Cover Girl makes great shadows & I never would have tried them if not for you. For some reason, I always avoided Cover Girl, but I have been suprised by the quality of quite a few of their products. TruBlend foundation is awsome.
What a cracking video! I have bought some of the products you have mentioned in other videos and have to say you give excellent advice! I use some of the products you have mentioned on a daily basis and absolutely love them. I follow you here as well as FB. I actually look more at different brands of drugstore make up since watching your videos. Have to say thank you for advice and please keep the videos coming!
Great video. I am glad that you utilize both high end and drugstore brands. I have tried some of your recommendations in the past and I Love them! Thanks so much for the all the hard work that I'm sure goes on behind the scenes to research products and film videos. I like that you are very genuine with your reviews of products and really try to show something for everyone. High end brands are good, but who doesn't like to get the same look and have pride in the fact that they saved money?
Thank you sooo much for making this video! yup everyones so focused on mac makeup and all that. they dont even see how great other brands can be!!!!!! im REALLY impressed and i absolutly adore you and your enthustiastic attitude! thank you soooooooo much !!!!!
I bought the nyc bronzer in sunny a few months back,And I reallllly like it! I also bought the wetnwild bronzer in Reserve your cabana that you recommended,And I really like it to! Thank you for getting them out there and letting other women know about them!
Great video, as always!! I saw all those palettes at Claire's the other day when I went and wanted to get them, but didn't thiink they would be pigmented, but I'm deff going back and getting them!!
Yes , Claire's nail polishes are wonderful also !! and they go on mark down all the time also, my 1st teenage makeup experiance was with Cover girl and I still use those same colors 30+ yrs later have bought them many times over ! I need to pick that brush duo up asap! THX
I love that you mentioned the sponge tipped applicators. I have way too many brushes, sometimes the sponge-tip really does a better job. For me, it depends on the eyeshadow. Some just seem to adhere to a sponge-tip better than a brush.
i love the mary kay loose powder! it was the first powder I used, but eventually grew into more powder. it really was a great find! glad to hear someone else loving it too!
i have one of those claires pallettes and complely agree! i got it when i first started doing makeup, and was so suprised with how great the pigmentation is! my friends are such snobs about it and because its from claires they think it automatically sucks, but they dont and they are really in expensive!
I love NYC lipsticks, Wet n Wild Fast Dry nail polishes, NYC brown eye pencils for eyebrow filling, Maybelline The Falsies mascara, Rimmel Primer, Hard Candy Butterfly concealer pallette, And some of the best eyeshadows and brushes I've ever had came from those big Color Workshop kits that Walmart has out at Christmastime
I own several products you mentioned here. I totally agree with you about Lip Lites. They're so pigmented and smell so good. I bought Mink e/s yesterday and I just tried it own today, and OMG I think I just found my HG neutral daytime all-over e/s shade.
Love this video thanks for showing the love for the forgotten but good products.I always think you should have some of those sponge tip applicators, they do great for the area where we brighten the inner corner ,
Amazing video!! You're awesome!! Thanks for sharing. I have those lip gloss from elf and they're great! They last longer than my nars lip glosses. great texture too..
i personally love sponge tip applicators. They're great for bringing to school, and the cover girl ones that have the pointed end are GREAT for my crease. All i have to do is sweep it from the inner crease to the outer crease once and i have a perfect crease!
I absolutely LOVE this channel! If I could I wound subscribe a million times!!!!!!!! I love listening to you talk! I actually feels like you care about your subscribers! Your are definatley my FAVORITE channel ever since the first video I watched! Thank You sooooooo much!
Emily I love how you are not a makeup snob and willing to try items that people regard as "bad" because they aren't found at Mac or Sephora
I know this is an older video, but even now you're just as down to earth. You will forever be my favorite youtuber. Would LOVE to see an update on this!!
She should update this video.
I have a few eyeshadow quads from E.L.F. and they ARE A-MAZING!! This is coming from a NARS junkie!! Luv the videos!!
You're awesome! I agree that other bloggers can be snobs with the sponge tip applicators. or stuck on the same brands, love your drugstore makeup reviews 😍
emily you are the sweetest! by far favorite beauty guru i feel like youve always been the one trying to help us save some money. beautiful & practical
Thank you for this!!!

I'm happy to see Claire's eyeshadows here. I use them too and love it! Bought a huge pallette for $8.
The sponge tip applicators are so underrated (I keep and still use them). I've heard great things about Claire's I must get there.
Great video btw.
I stumbled on Sheer Red by NYC before I started watching your videos, and I agree. It's awesome! It was what convinced me that I could wear red lipstick.
Just picked up several Claire's eyeshadows, and they are amazing. Thanks for the tip, gonna look for E.L.F next.
I SO agree about the foam applicators! It makes me upset that if you use them, you're kind of "looked down upon", if you know what I mean. Unless you have super expensive brushes, they work a lot better for applying than most brushes.
I love spongetips for packing shadow on the lids.. They work so great.

I love the essence of beauty crease brushes so much!! I agree, those sponge tip applicators are great for packing on eyeshadow. They're not so great for blending, but still a very underrated tool. I actually used those exclusively for years when I was younger before I had ever heard of eyeshadow brushes lol.
I love the Claire's eyeshadow :) got two in purple/pink tones and orange/gold tones. They're amazing!

I use my sheer red with allot of other red lipsticks as well. Great video and thanks for all the swatches.

She is. I agree. Kathleen Lights and Jaclyn Hill are the same way. :-)
Cover girl was the first eye shadows I used when I started with makeup. I agree with you about Essence of Beauty brushes. I have the double ended set. I don't have these two. May pick them up.

glad to hear someone else loving it too!
i have one of those claires pallettes and complely agree! i got it when i first started doing makeup, and was so suprised with how great the pigmentation is! my friends are such snobs about it and because its from claires they think it automatically sucks, but they dont and they are really in expensive!
YEA for the sponge applicators...I just wish they came with a longer handle!
THIS VIDEO WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love NYC lipsticks, Wet n Wild Fast Dry nail polishes, NYC brown eye pencils for eyebrow filling, Maybelline The Falsies mascara, Rimmel Primer, Hard Candy Butterfly concealer pallette, And some of the best eyeshadows and brushes I've ever had came from those big Color Workshop kits that Walmart has out at Christmastime
the store icing (which is like claires but for teenagers or adults) carries some really nice makeup brushes and makeup that are pretty inexpensive :3
I agree with you, I absolutely love the Claire's mini palettes. I didn't expect such pigmented eyeshadows for such a small price!!
I own several products you mentioned here. I totally agree with you about Lip Lites. They're so pigmented and smell so good. I bought Mink e/s yesterday and I just tried it own today, and OMG I think I just found my HG neutral daytime all-over e/s shade.
Awesome video! This is the first time I have watched a you tube video and actually use the products mentioned!
i LOVE the Bonne Bell LipLites! They're my favorite lip glosses ever!
I use covergirl eyeshadow every day, I use a quad with brown shades and I'm totally in love with it!
I only started using NYC sunny because of you Emily & I love it!! Update video of this please!!
Love this video thanks for showing the love for the forgotten but good products.I always think you should have some of those sponge tip applicators, they do great for the area where we brighten the inner corner ,
I feel the same about the tapered crease brush. I got one in a set of face brushes(?) and I was amazed.
All i have to do is sweep it from the inner crease to the outer crease once and i have a perfect crease!
soooooo helpful (:
should definitely do an updated one of this vid
sometime ! i'm so considering these products!
Bonnebelle Liplites. I've been singing their praises for like 10-ish years? Cappuccino is my go-to color. Great vid! Thanks for the tips.

I adore the sheer red lipstick by NYC! It's one of my favorite lip products. It's quite moisturizing too, which is nice.
