    Over the last two years I have decluttered probably 1/3 of my bedroom. The first year was my big “why am I still holding on to this stuff” since I still had a number of items from my childhood that I did not need to still have lol. This past year has been a more brutal level since I am preparing to get married and have been viewing my stuff through a “do I want to take this with me when I move out and am married” lenses.
    I now only have clothing I either wear constantly, really like for those few occasions the weather gets cold enough, or one or two items that need to be decided at the end of a season. I still have a few gaps since this has also been my transition to work environment clothing, but am so happy with all the progress I made.
    The rest of my room is books and craft supplies and they too have been pared down to “yes I want to bring this with me.” Feels so good to be surrounded by items that are worth their space.

    I have SO many clothes! I really want to do a Konmari declutter but… I’m 8 months pregnant and I’d like to give my body time to “settle” after birth and just see what my postpartum body is like before decluttering my entire wardrobe.

      Congratulations! I just had a baby and I did a declutter while pregnant. There is some stuff I held onto just to see if I'll want it again in the future but I recommend going through your clothes and getting rid of things you are 100 percent not going to ever wear again. Also, declutter other areas of your home too if you have the time and energy - you'll be glad you did!

    You inspired me to spend 6 hours today decluttering my closet. 1 bag of recycling and 1 bag of donations which is great as I don’t buy clothes regularly. Like you, I think the shoes can wait for a different day.

    The past two years have been a roller coaster for me health-wise: I lost a lot of weight in '19/'20, gallbladder went to hell at the beginning of '21 and felt awful for half a year until I removed it, and slowly regained about half of what I originally lost through '22...so as you can imagine I'd had to do a number of clothes purges, which were rather disappointing to me. But no sense hanging onto clothes with the mentality of 'oh I'll keep it because I will definitely lose that weight again!'...nah man, wear what fits *now*, and if/when it happens buy new things then. Good job on that declutter, I hope your move is going well and that you're beginning to settle in as best you can!

    My clothes are maybe 1/4 of your end result and I still managed to declutter like 25 pieces in January 😅
    I quit clothes shopping years ago, sometimes I buy couple of pieces or replacment fron second hand shops, but I don't even go to cloth stores unless I really need something (underwear 99% of time).

    I definitely agree how confronting it can be when you pule all your clothes in one place 😂 I try to do it once a year and it has absolutely helped me to think before buying more. The switch from working in an office to WFH has also really helped.

    I moved house last may and decluttered a LOT before I did so. If I didn't want to put it in a box and move it, then I got rid of it. I had friends help me out - showing me things and I'd decide pack or toss (donate, recycle, garbage etc) and we put stuff in suitcases and boxes as we went. It wasn't until I unpacked again on the other side that I realized i'd decluttered so much clothing that was down to 3 pairs of pants and a half dozen shirts lol. I went perhaps a bit TOO extreme - but at the same time, nothing I got rid of sparked joy and none of it was essential. I kept what I needed to get me through a work-from-home week and then I built up again from there with things I bought mindfully with an eye to making me happy (I now need to declutter again - you're right, it's never ending!)

    I did a clean out last year and reduced my clothes and shoes by about half. It’s tough when I’ve lived in one place for a long time and clothing seems to just collect everywhere. I only kept my wardrobe small when we moved around a lot.
    You did a great job!

  • @jenoola

    I did a clothing declutter literally yesterday :-) first one in at least the last 3-4 years. got rid of about a third of my clothes. not a minimalist, but my starting pile was much smaller (took no more than 2 hours with try-ons, and I tried on at least half of my clothes). I find that the best way to restrict my purchasing is to limit the storage. like, I have exactly 4 jars for storing tea, so I never have more than 4 types of tea on the go (otherwise all my money would be wasted on tea lol). I've bought some makeup storage, and with it I manage to keep everything on a small vanity and I have to get rid of stuff to make room for new things. if you are happy with the amount of clothes that you have after the declutter, maybe it would help to get rid of unused hangers and boxes? if there's room to grow, it will grow

    I've been meaning to declutter my clothes for a couple of years now, but I've put on some weight during the pandemic and so I've been putting it off. I want to start working out this year and maybe if I do a declutter at the end of 2023, maybe I won't be left with just a handful of things that still fit 🤣 I've done konmari declutters before and they are a genius method no matyer what it is that you wanna declutter.

    Moving is always a great time to declutter. Either before or after you move. I love a good clear out. I recently moved from a two-bedroom to a one-bedroom so I know how hard it is. Only one thing broke in the move and it was my lovely new vanity chair. I’m happy for your new adventure. Boops to Freya.

    I have a lot of clothes, but I am not buying clothes unless I need something. But I also have clothes from my mom and cousins. I have now started putting clothes I no longer wear for my daughter who is 8,5. Because my clothes are good quality I can do that and I only buy a couple of items a year. The truth is I have a casual style and I don’t follow the fashion. I like what I like. I have clothes from my mom, when she was young and I love the story and the photos I have.

    I have never had a lot of clothing because I actually hate clothes shopping. But the things I could no longer fit into I sold (mostly) on marketplace. The rest I donated. Good quality clothes will also sell if you price them at a low price.

    I did an ok declutter last year with my clothes. I work for a restaurant in the US that requires a uniform, so I don't get to wear most of what I own even though I want to. I decluttered what I felt was enough for when I hopefully leave my current job and actually get to wear a majority of the clothes I own again. Once I'm at that point though, I want to be able to fit all of my clothes in just my closet and use my dresser drawers for my makeup storage. I need to replace a bunch of wire hangers that I own and swap them for plastic ones that are easier for me to hang my clothes on first and make sure I actually have enough hangers for everything.

    We moved and downsized, the new closet is 1/3 the size of what I had….my shoe collection took the biggest hit, I probably got rid of over 100 pairs ! Even after being in our new home 5 months, there’s more shoes Ive let go since. Yes, a little sad, but they just aren’t getting the love (or the wear), so best for them to live anew elsewhere! Enjoying your adventurous lead in to the big move!

    I decluttered this year and also 2 years ago because we moved twice, clothes are one of the things I hate packing and moving the most next to shoes and boots. It never feels like you can thin them out enough, and then the next day you can throw your hands up and declare that you have nothing to wear.

    I did a massive declutter before I moved from the middle of the USA to NY. I ended up getting rid of about 7 bags of clothes (yikes) but it felt really good to not have that many options? I get a bit of analysis paralysis when have too many options so it was really freeing for me in a way. I've started going through other things I brought with me to see if I actually still need them or if I can let them go to let myself get more organized.

  • @caityjayde96

    I need to declutter my clothes, but it's something I always have a hard time with because some things are sentimental and some things are just too pretty that, even if they don't fit me now, I want to keep them for when I can eventually fit into them again. I've tried vacuum bags but they don't work if there's too much in the bags so I need to get more bags but I don't know how many I need and I'd like to (at some point) go through my current bags to see if I can declutter further. I definitely get too attached to some of my clothes, so decluttering probably needs to be a two-person job for me. On the plus side, it's easier to work out what to do with decluttered clothes than decluttered makeup, because clothes we can just donate to Vinnies.

    • @marta_mst
      @marta_mst 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe the question is why you are so sentimental about that many pieces of clothing? Like sure few items but why few bags? Do you have a plan to fit into those clothes again? Do you need all of them if you will start to be able to wear them again or you prefer to reward yourself with some shopping?

    • @caityjayde96
      @caityjayde96 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marta_mst Some things were presents from family who I don't get to see very often, some things were picked out by my dad who is one of my favourite people in the world, some things I've worn for special events, and some things have a lot of memories attached to them, and there's also one dress that I just used to wear a lot that I feel sad to think about decluttering because I just love it so much. I don't have a solid plan in place just yet because I've got a lot going on right now and we also suspect that there might be an underlying condition making everything more difficult that I need genetic testing to confirm, but I've got an appointment with an endocrinologist later this month to discuss all that and then, depending on the test results, we may be able to find the right treatments, which will make weight loss possible for me. Regardless, I have hope that I'll be able to fit into some things again, even if it takes a long time. I still want to go through the other things that I was keeping just because they're pretty, though, because there's a lot of those that I could probably get rid of.

    My friend has a method: for example if she buys 3 shirts, she must que rid of 2 or 3; if she buys 5 pairs of socks, she gets rid of 4 or 5 pairs (you get the idea 😉) I’m personally not able to do that but I challenge myself to get rid of at least one piece of clothes when buy clothes ☺️

      I might try to do something along these lines, I'm managing with a very limited wardrobe at the moment but I would still like to get rid of some more and replace them with nicer pieces. I know I tend to reach for my favourite pieces over anything else so I can definitely see this being a beneficial way of reducing my wardrobe further over time

    I decluttered my clothes in mountain way 12 years ago when i moved countries. I was crying because i had too many clothes. Well, 12 years later i have more. I like to collect stuff from the old decades. It is easy for me to get rid of new styles but all theses beautiful dresses from the 60s and 70s. I can’t. I don’t want to. because it is not produced like this anymore. The nice collars and construction of clothing.

    Are you kidding about that bed scene “looking bad”? The longer a person is alive, the more you can collect - and clothing usually doesn’t go bad! Mine still fit even after a decade and I can’t bear to give away perfectly good clothes that don’t show their age. Also, none of it is upscale enough to “recycle” or “rent” to others. BUT . . . If we don’t buy things, our economy goes to hell! So, it’s virtuous to have this mountain. Don’t feel bad.
