- It’s been a long time coming but we’re here: ladies and gentlemen, the new Ford GT. Driven. We test the Blue Oval’s astonishing 647bhp supercar in California at Laguna Seca, and on the gorgeous - if traffic-packed - Pacific Coast Highway.

Ahhhhhhh if Carol Shelby and Ken Miles were around for this.
A lot of people don't realize that the weight to hp ratio and balance of the areo is engineered to have the 6 cylinder in the car being the perfect performance match ! That's why the seat doesn't move ! The suspension and weight balance was calculated for maximum performance ! Otherwise why not put in a V12 or V8 ? Mathematically it decreases performance ! This is a road car not a drag car my fellow gear heads !
You could still put a V12 in a road car. The thing is - this car was made for LeMans 24h and is a proper racecar since 2016. Now it has a little "normal" version that's street legal. That's why it has a V6.
There is a video on here from Drag Times with a gt against a 2019 ZR1 with not cats or resonators at a 40mph roll at a drag strip the gt wins everytime I forget how many runs, its a good video.
Nope. This is why this car will depreciate like crazy and the 2006 Ford GT is the best GT that Ford has ever produced. A proper V8 in a proper sports car. I suppose Corvette has taken it from here instead (C6 Z06 records, C6 ZR1, C7 Z51, C7 ZR1, and soon the all-new C8 Z51)

@zzzx xzzz - Actually, Ford built this machine as a race car, first, and a road car second. Just look at the interior - plain, sparse and business like, as a race car needs to be.

First gen NSX is a "best looking supercar" only according to people who are off the meds or goes often to auto parts to rice their 1999 Honda Civic

Yes, with a V-8 you would have 0-60 in 2 seconds and a top speed pushing 240 mph without breaking a sweat, this car is SCREAMING for V-8 treatment and I hope that Ford builds a limited number just to make a statement power to the world.
The car was built around the V-6. Put the weight of the 8 in there would throw things off
For those people whining about it "only being a V6", the Porsche 911 GT2 RS is "only a 3.8L F6" and it gets to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds... you don't need 8 or more cylinders to go ridiculously fast.

Ford has shown that high technology and engineering has proven that V-6 engines can match and in some cases can outperform V-8 engines. Zero to sixty in three seconds and over two hundred miles per hour from a six cylinder engine is amazing. But it is not all about the powertrain, it is all about the chassis, weight distribution and aerodynamics.

I own an ecoboost .v6 twin F150 . Love the truck for what it is but ford totally lied about its performance . My fuel mirage isn't good for a v6 . Actually if I'll be honest it sucks . Had I known the before hand I would of got the 5.0 .

Just because our Car culture prefers Drag racing over Road courses, doesnt mean We cant build a world class Track car to rival Europe's Best. Ford Has to Remind the World of that every 50 years or so. The Ford GT is instantly better than ALL others when it is sold to Public, becasue Ford makes sure they WIN LAmans GP with the car, before they do any else. Pedagree restored to 100!
Yup, Ford’s uk and Canadian partners should be very proud of their amazing work. UK for engineering (think every F1 and Indy car save Ferrari) and Canada for manufacturing engineering and final manufacturing. Oh, and the USA for exterior design. Can forget that!

The viper ACR, corvette ZR1 and GT are without a doubt super cars they're not even cheaply made, in fact they will last much longer than any European sports car

Indeed its up there with the 10 best, heck i'de even say the current Shelby GT350R is a jaw dropper as well, both in looks sound and performance, Equally with its older Eleanor GT500 sibling. People tend to have short memories regarding Ford forgetting its a company that can beat just about anybody whenever they feel so. And its not like other notable car manufactures who constantly produce their particular halo car generation after generation non-stop, no.. Ford just jumps up out of the blue one day with a goal, to conquer all, and against all measures of logic, achieves it! which says a heck of a lot about Ford but also says plenty about those manufactures who claim to be the best. Surly If they truly were giving it their all, no way could a company like Ford which mass produces commuting vehicles, could possibly ever create a competitive vehicle, but ...they do, shocking the world every time. Not only that, also with vehicles that dont suffer the sorta bursting in flames issues these 'premier' manufactures always have. Ford, uses parts and engines sourced from their current stock, like the F150 truck, theyle then refine the parts for higher levels of performance and they achieve their goals, even to such a degree that other low volume exotic car manufactures have utilized their engines for their cars. like Koenigseeg did with the early ccx. thats says a heck of a lot when your really really think about it. we go on and on about the unsurpassed quality of certain exotics, then.. Ford just hacks together an engine from one of its trucks and blows those exotics away with zero problems. The reality is our own vanity towards big money exotics has us placing them on high and belittling the brands which are easily acquired, but we forget those companies are little more than fleas in comparison to the juggernauts like Ford and Honda. so it should be no surprise when Ford or honda just out of the blue drops a hammer that crushes all. And GM is finally taking the corvette to the next level going mid engine. a mass produced mid engine sports car. and lets not forget the corvettes reliability and power. it will be the biggest bang for the buck, at least until Tesla drops the roadster, which wont be cheap, for us normal income folks, but it will be dirt cheap considering the tier it will reside in.
Last time I was at Laguna Seca, David Hobbs was driving the McClaren BMW 320 twin turbo. Ford did a real work of art with this little beauty.
I always knew the V6 or Straight 6 Motor was the sweet spot for power, economy and overall maintenance and reliability. Turbo a 6 and you're easily capable of matching motors far larger in capacity.
@S P - Exactly, just look at the multitude of races won by BMW and their bullet proof Straight 6!
This really makes me want to jump for a Supra. My STI just requires so much $$$ to get a lot of power that really isn't reliable or economically sound. It seems the V6 is powerful enough to not wast too much fuel and doesn't overpower and waste fuel.

If the Ford GT doesn't blow you away your not a car person so go buy a vega or pinto and go about your business and leave the ppl that enjoys a true mind blowing stud alone.
Don't mess with the Pinto, you rear after burner. The Pinto with that German 2.0 L over head valve it's what started all the modern engine cam technology.

Just the weight saved is pretty significant. Ford is killing it with this car, in looks, performance,and engineering. It used to be be all about displacement, still sort of is. But the future is big HP with smaller displacement. The Mitsubishi Evo can do 800hp out of a 4 banger, why can’t America do a 650-750 even 850 hp V6 engine?
@@SVTJD they actually can my buddy has a v6 2014 mustang and its around 730whp it has twin turbos forged internals bigger injectors boost cam full exhaust 4000 stall and the list goes on there are lots of reliable v6 American engines they are just slept on

Ford just released/introduced the Ford GT Mk.II this week at Goodwood. You have to hear this new more powerful version of this car. It sounds everybit as good as a Porsche RSR 991. Sounds like they've upped the rev limit by 2,000rpm and sweetened that exhaust note to a howl that will make anyone smile and forget about wanting a V8.

Aesthetics meant everything to Enzo. And to us. Quick note: When he invited Carroll Shelby to drive for him, he was turned down because too many drivers died under Enzo. A dangerous business, bro. Many great drivers laid down their lives for the game.

I cannot remember the TH-camrs name but I originally saw him with Parker on Vehicle Virgins, but he ordered his Ford GT in Miami Blue and it is incredible looking in that color scheme.

@@n300zx931 It doesn't follow super car norms, because it is not a supercar by the standard definition. Those are McLarens, Lamborghinis, Koenigsegg, etc. Cars made for the public first, and may or may not get involved in racing. They have opulent interiors with lots of glitz and show. Look at the interior of the GT - it's as plain vanilla as you can get, because it is a race car first, and they neither need or want that excess stuff in them, adding unnecessary weight.

I love this car, as the saying goes if it goes as good as it looks.... well then this is gonna wipe everything out bc this is beautiful, plus its using a V6 instead of an 8, plus the ecoboost engine is the way of the future of the internal combustion engine, all it needs is a few electric motor/generator units + a KERS system and it will give the green ppl a hard on too haha brilliant, absolutely brilliant. i am in love with fords again, i stepped away after they stopped the sierra sapphire cosworth 4*4, that was my last love, but have found this little beauty

Bentley is still using v12 twin turbo tractor engines barely making 600 hp. What Ford did was amazing.

I have a 2021 Ford GT as well as a 2005 Ford GT and a 1966 Superformance Ford Gt 40
Plus Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis etc.etc.
The 2021 Ford Gt is clearly one of the best!
Ford did great, and they not once thought about how well it would sit in a garage...or how well it would drive on the highway. They made it beautiful and useful in its aero design, its an awesome car.

@Jim Johnson - Good point, Jim! Many youngsters today have no idea that a 190 HP V6 Ferrari won the F1 World Championship in 1960. Porsche has proven throughout its history the 6 cylinder engine is more than capable of beating larger V8 engines.

For some reason I was expecting Clarkson Hammond and May and was ready for the “Finally Americans make something even worth reviewing”
3.5l is fine given it picks up quicker, doesn’t use as much weight, and you don’t need to go more than 215mph at Le Mans

I really do wonder how long it will take for someone to gently remove the motor & all the unwanted sheet metal, put in a 289 w/ supercharger & race cam, & then do the REAL numbers?
@Glenn Gammon - I'll tell you how long.......never! This machine was designed around the TT V6 and as small as the 289 is, it would never fit without major rebuilding. P.S. - there's not any sheet metal to remove - the car, and chassis are all carbon fiber. You wouldn't really want to mess with such an exclusive and very valuable car. It's fine just as it is!

Take out the V-6 and install a V-12, which is naturally balanced vertically & horizontally, plus, the firing order is balanced, meaning, cylinders do not fire on the same bank in a row. Yes, the V-12 does not fit as good as the V-6, but, when spending this kind of money, make it fit. Also, when you show off your engine, you will not be embarrassed with the V-12.
