  • One of our biggest passions while traveling is trying local food! This is hard in Chile, where our inquiries about the best local foods were often met with “wouldn’t you prefer sushi?” or “maybe try going to Peru, they have amazing food there.”
    Luckily, there’s an incredible restaurant that lets visitors try traditional Chilean food and local Chilean ingredients! Peumayen is deeply rooted in indigenous Chilean traditions, while still being willing to play, experiment, and be creative. We LOVE this restaurant!
    If you’re interested in trying other traditional Chilean foods, we really recommend finding sopaipillas (fried flatbread traditionally made with pumpkin, but now sometimes made with orange dye instead) and mote con huesillos (a popular drink containing soaked wheat and a whole peach). There aren’t many Chilean street foods, at least not compared to places like Thailand and India, but you can find both sopaipillas and mote con huesillos sold by street vendors!
    Check out Peumayen here:

    Let us know in the comments if you want to see a list of all the bites we tried at Peumayen! We also always want to hear about your suggestions for local foods!

    I love you tasted the great mapuche food, is great some restaurants are recovering it. Horse meat is what the usually ate and mote or oat with piñones were very consumed and still consumed in South of Chile. Very proud of our ansesters❤️❤️❤️❤️

    You should've gone to a fast food joint and have a Completo (Chilean Hot Dog), that's very typical and quite tasty.

    • @EscapeVisa
      @EscapeVisa  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!! We got to try sopaipillas (amazing!) and mote con huesillo, but didn't get to have a completo before we left! So disappointed in our bad planning (ran out of time) but it's a great excuse to go back. 😊

    This is a really posh gourmet style chilean food restorant , also all the waiters speak english? thats a common think , if you guys want to try a typical home made grandma recipe style chilean food, try the "Mercado central" or "la piojera", cheers.

      We completely agree that the best traditional food experience is at a grandma's house, eating homemade food! I wish we knew enough people in Chile to make that happen, we would love to try that kind of food!
      During our time in Santiago, we tried food at both the Mercado Central and at La Piojera, and we really enjoyed the experience. Thank you for your tips!

      @@EscapeVisa Nooooooo!!!! Don't listen this guy, la piojera is full of drunk guys eating pork and Mercado central is the worst place to eat in Santiago, I don't know what kind of food this person use to eat. Just don't listen!!!

      Que tipo de comida acostumbras comer??? Como das esos malos consejos?? La peor comida de santiago esta en el mercado central y la piojera, para comer buena comida chilena hay que ir a restoranes recomendados. Creo que tu abuela cocinaba maoma no más si te gustan esos lugares🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

    I lived in Chile for 3 years and I think they have the most boring food ever. My favorite dish down there was Pastel de Choclo but you can´t/shouldn´t eat that every day, with that being said the variety and creativity they put on dishes are quite limited. Thanks for the video. The food you guys ate looked pretty tasty though.

    • @pambutterflyhigh
      @pambutterflyhigh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, you didn't know the right people, not every chilean is a good cook. I bet you only lived in Santiago. Did you try coast food and South food???

    • @sejuyz
      @sejuyz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pambutterflyhigh Yes, I tried some. I went to Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Frutillar, Valdivia etc... it was much better indeed but all in all that doesn´t make for a great cuisine. I love Chile (just so we´re clear)

      @@sejuyz you tried some??? Just some. what dishes you tried? I've eaten lots of countries food and I don't think our food is limited at all.

      No creo que entiendas el concepto de la comida en chile ....los sabores nuestros son más simples no tan gourmet ....si viviste acá te aseguro que en tres años no probaste mucho y quizás solo estuviste en stgo ..... Que lastima tu opinión tan limitada ....yo que llevo 40 años ni siquiera e probado toda comida en cada región ....osea 3 años para creerte opinologo...... ? ...por otra parte los muchachos si fueron a un buen restorant pero de sabores étnicos mapuches .....y si bien es cierto que no lo podríamos considerar comida tradicional ...este si aplica sabores que tenemos en nuestro largo y angosto pais de norte a sur .
