I am a Veteran Marine who played professional Rugby, grew up on a farm, and worked all sorts of manly construction jobs... The Golden Girls is easily in my top ten of all time. It is just so hilarious. Thats what makes it so good. It can be enjoyed by every body, even brutish ogres like myself. The show also addressed racism, bigotry, sexism, ageism, and politics. Way ahead of it's time.
Golden Girls was DEFINITELY ahead of its time. Though a comedy, they tackled issues such as euthanasia, gay marriage, health care for the elderly, sexual issues for older women, alzheimer's, cancer, etc......and they did it with humor and compassion.
This show was one of the best ever!!!! Such a brilliant cast!!! Always loved Dorothy too.... I'm all about the sarcasm!! Also Sophia mentioned Designing Women, that was another fantastic show! Smart ,witty dialogue with another talented cast!!! Julia Sugarbaker is right there with Sophia with the zingers!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I know every single line to every single episode of golden girls. It is my go-to show it is my rainy day no matter what time it's on I will watch it. I own the entire series on DVD and the cool thing is that the series comes in in a box that looks like Sophia's purse, so it's pretty awesome. And yes, they were ahead of their time. They tackled issues that were taboo at the time, from assisted suicide to gay marriage to dementia to sexual harassment to everything. That's why it will always be one of the greatest shows of all time.
Dorothy's sarcasm is brutal. Like mother like daughter (Sophia) lol. Some fun trivia: Estelle Getty was 62 when the show premiered which was 17 years younger than her character and one year younger than Bea Arthur and Betty White.
@@jartober In the season 2 episode "A Piece Of Cake" they mentioned that Sophia celebrated her 50th birthday in April 1956 meaning that her character was 79 at the time of that episode. Aside from that episode you can look up that the ages of the Golden Girls characters are decided by the creators and writers of the show. Or simply look up how old they were in real life compared to their characters.
@Onetigerl I don't think you understand the level of fandom I have with the Girls. There's nothing I don't know. Your post is not clear. Are you saying Sophia was 79 in 1985? That is "technically "correct... but she also says 80 and other random ages throughout the shows 7 year run. Nothing ever adds up. Such as Dorothy's grandmother's age . Also, Sophia had Dorothy at 25. Don't come for me. Lol.
Sophia character storyline was an amazing concept from the very beginning of the series... Sophia came from Shady Pines a retirement home Dorothy place her in after she suffered a stroke that destroyed the part of the brain that controlled her speech and how she communicate, in other words she don't think before she speaks so it comes out like word vomit.. There has never been another character like that ever on TV.. Estelle Getty nailed this role, I can't imagine anyone else playing Sophia..
I love Estelle Getty is one of the few comedians that hammered through the live studio audience laughs. A great example is at the 4:00 mark. Estelle raises her voice to get up over the audience laughs twice to finish the bit. The art-form is probably lost but Estelle Getty was an expert.
They WERE all good - they all won Emmys while on the show. And if you "put it in your rotation", make sure you watch the DVDs - on any TV network, the episodes are severely edited, most of the best jokes wind up on the cutting room floor. The show is not dated because it wasn't topical, for the most part. They dealt with issues, but very subtly. It was mostly about the home dynamic.
Savage Sophia, also what cracks me up is when she tells her days when she lived in Silicy. Every time she'll start with " picture this, Silicy 19.... ( different year)."😂
Pretty please react to Selena singing "Enamorada De Ti." It's a new-jack-swing song. In the dance break, she pays tribute to Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation." This is in 1990 when Selena was 19 years old.
Hello fellas' I thought I'd suggest a couple of artists to give a listen, if interested. "Roberta Flack & Peabo Bryson - The Closer I Get To You" (by the channel: akayshia) --Roberta Flack is an American singer/songwriter who came to fame during the early 70's. She was discovered singing in a jazz club in Washington D.C. She produced several big hit singles. Les Macan the guy that discovered her said, (and I'm paraphrasing here) but he said, "Her voice touched, tapped and trapped you, while stirring every emotion in you along the way," and I would totally agree with that statement. lol Maybe you'll give it a listen and see if you agree. And If I may be so bold as to leave another suggestion to give a listen, if interested. "Bee Gees - Our Love (Don't Throw It All Away) (Live In Las Vegas, 1997 - One Night Only)" (by the channel: beegees) --This song was a big hit for both the Bee Gees as well as their younger brother Andy Gibb because he also included it on his second album "Shadow Dancing". It was written by Barry Gibb and Blue Weaver and recorded in 1977 during the "Saturday Night Fever" sessions but wasn't released until they released "Bee Gees Greatest Hits" in 1979. And as always, I enjoyed hanging out and rocking with you. Thanks for sharing.
The video begins with an awkward silence (no introduction) then one guy says “Ok let’s get this over with… it’s only 10 minutes” and then he yawns. Needless to say, I clicked off the video.
I loved the golden girls But do you need 8 minutes to break it down that’s what makes this channel boring The beginning isn’t much better and for that reason I won’t subscribe
What's funny is that in real life, Sofia (Estelle Getty) was younger than both Dorothy (Bea Arthur) and Rose (Betty White).
No no no no wtf
@@tiffanykim2773 fact!!!🖖🏻🇨🇦
Estelle Getty had gotten a face lift by third season which presented new challenges in makeup which had to make her look old
Only by a year that's not really an age gap Rue was over a decade younger then the other 3 ladies.
@@tiffanykim2773 lol only by one year Rue was the youngest like 12 years younger than the other costars

It's one reason why it was such a popular show!
Golden Girls was the best show. I still watch the reruns. Never gets old.
I watch from Disney Plus. Makes me laugh when I need cheer up
I still watch The Golden Girls today. Sophia was funny. I like Dorothy's sarcasm too.
Same here! Dorothy is my favorite.
Their chemistry, slapstick and timing was ICONIC
Pure, comedic brilliance
Separately their antics are fire 🔥. Together they explode into pure comedy! 😂
My all-time favorite show. They were for sure ahead of their time. Total savagery. Dorothy and Sophia were the best. You should do the Dorothy one.

Gotta love Sophia!
Hey guys, could you react to the other 3 as well. This was so good. 😊
Sophia and Dorothy were hands down my favorites❤❤❤ and it was my favorite TV show then and it still will always be my number one
You need to do Dorothy....her undefeated sarcasm made her my FAVORITE
Thank y'all very much. This is so nice because you are good company for old ladies. Old people are funny. Comedy from the Reiner family.
You guys made me want to watch this again.
golden girls is the best! its my happy/comfort show. also very ahead of its time.
Honestly I probably could quote a lot of scenes from the show I've seen it so many times❤❤❤
Dorothy's sarcasm is brutal. Like mother like daughter (Sophia) lol. Some fun trivia: Estelle Getty was 62 when the show premiered which was 17 years younger than her character and one year younger than Bea Arthur and Betty White.

Absolute Classic,These ladies where definitely all ahead of the times. Never missed a beat ,Any of them.. Brilliant.
Funniest sitcoms all time IMO are The Golden Girls, Married with Children, and Martin
No agrument with that list! I don't think Martin's show gets the flowers it deserves when it comes to the funniest sitcoms of all time talk!
I remember Shaneyney from Martin, hilarious. Flip Wilson also did a female character, Geraldine.😂😂
Love Martin di Manu talented actors there
This show is beyond ages. ❤❤❤
Such a comfort show for me

Fabulous ladies. For more hilarious repartee, check out Archie Bunker vs George Jefferson at the Jefferson’s engagement party for son, Lionel. 😂
I still watch these videos almost every day!
One of the greatest shows of all time
Hey guys you gotta watch Dorothy’s best come backs! Good stuff
So many brilliantly written lines.
I used to watch this on Saturday nights along with a show called 227
aaahhh!!! 227 was and is classic!!! We had a big crush on Sandra!

Shady Pines Ma! Shady Pines… 🌲🌲😆
Love them!!
The best writers ever.
You might like "The Carol Burnett Show" and it''s spin off, "Mama's Family". Vicky Lawrence, as Thelma Harper, was quite the fiery savage herself.
Mama's family does not get the flowers it deserves!!!
Savage Sophia, also what cracks me up is when she tells her days when she lived in Silicy. Every time she'll start with " picture this, Silicy 19.... ( different year)."😂
Best show! Those old ladies are a trip. 😅
Needed the is thanks
Bea Arthur started in Maude along with Rue(-the actress playing )Blanche.
Love their reaction
Hhha the way the bottom guy laughed over the pamphlet remark 😂
FYI - Dorothy (Bea Arthur) was a Marine.
Picture it....❤
Sophia is the best
that was awesome🤣🤣🤣
Sophia reminds me of my grandma ( also Italian) and she raised me, which means I'm very much a dorthy... (As confirmed by my friends)
Dorothy was in the army.
Always loved the Golden Girls , All in the family but one of my favorites has to be Sanford and Son.
You need to do episode reactions. Would pay. Lol.
I love them all, but Betty White as Rose was my absolute favorite. She played a great naive.
I love Corey's Deadpool shirt.
