I love these outings to bookstores, I haven't been in one in ages - so a virtual field trip is a delight. I've added Community Board to my Libby tbr pile. a few ebooks I've bought recently are: Death Valley, Just For the Summer, and Did You Ever Have a Family.
I'm happy you enjoyed the little field trip! 😋 I hadn't been in a couple of months and I was surprised at how many new books there were! ....my wishlist just gets longer and longer lol. Death Valley has such a cool cover!! I've been very tempted to get that one a few times, but I don't think it's the genre I typically go for 😩

Sprayed edges are cool and it urges me to buy it but I can't afford to and the price difference between a normal book and sprayed edges is day and night. I love the raccoon bookmark, it's so cute 🎀. Which I like politics in certain books, but for whatever reason it didn't appeal to me in this series. 🙃 Either way though I think you will like Hunger Games! It's definitely a good book! 4:41 I'm reading that book right now, Midnight Rooms by Donyae Coles and just a heads up if you were interested, this book is incredibly fever dreamy and I think the writing style is rather confusing, a lot of ambiguity when assigning verbs and adjectives to nouns. of course that is my opinion and like, if you're interested you might end up liking it but since I recalled specifically that you didn't like fever dreamy books, this is quite fever dreamy. a lot of "you're not sure what actually happened, because the narrator doesn't make it clear and no one else makes that clear either" but that cover and supporting Black authors tho 😤✨💕

My recent thrift buy was getting Lady Midnight, Lord of Shadows, & Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare and found out one of the books was signed by Cassandra Clare herself so that was a great surprise. My recent Kindle buy was Akarnae by Lynette Noni since I recently read The Prison Healer and wanted to read more of her work. Great finds and hope to read Assistant to the Villain eventually.
Ahh a signed thrift find is amazing!!! And I've heard so many good things about Cassandra Clare, how lucky! 😄 I want to start the Infernal Devices by her before the year is up. I've also heard a lot of good things about the Prisoner Healer, maybe I should check that out too ☺️
My problem with a lot of spray edges designs is the fact that they only look nice when the book is absolutely pristine - unopened, unread. As soon as the book is handled (you know, during reading, the thing you're supposed to do with it) there's a solid chance it won't look as nice anymore. I buy fair amount of my books secondhand, I don't need my books to look like they've barely left a printing facility or if they only been read in white gloves on the lectern - but I can't help but notice that the copies that I get secondhand that have sprayed edges do look worse than books in a similar state that don't have that embellishment.
That's a fair point! I'll admit I never really put much thought into what time would do to the sprayed edges. I am decently precious with my books, so normal wear and tear for me hasn't really effected the few that I've read (so far🤞🏻). BUT I imagine time will eventually fade them...or if someone wants to borrow one 😬 lol

They're religious cards. I always find them in the horror or "witchy" type books. I have nothing against following a religion, but I don't think it should be pushed on others in that way. It feels icky, so I always take them out when I see them. 🫤
I cannot buy books off Amazon, they don’t know how to package the books . It makes me so mad, why don’t they put any packing cushions in there?? It’ll just literally be a book in a box. After giving them a few tries I’ve given up. I’m too particular about having new books in perfect condition 🫣 anyone else?
I've definitely received some damaged books and totally agree they need to work on their packaging. I actually just had to return a book TWICE, because they kept sending it in the flimsiest bag 🤦🏻♀️ That being said, most of the time the books are ok, so the cheaper price is worth the risk for now. 😅

If I remember correctly, Amazon's prices are so low is because they don't make a profit from selling books. Which screws over real bookstores.
