Need to get that up to Baltimore .
This is Awsome love learning bout these cranes
The Thialf was upgraded at a later stage to 2x 7100 tons. Hence the second biggest over the Seipem 7000.
Up close, the size of the equipment and components takes your breath away...
I was the Dock Master of Sembcorp Marine who was in charge of shifting Sleipnir around during her various stages of construction 😊
By the way the crane that dropped its load under test when the lifting block failed under only partial load (I think around 2500 tones), if it is the same ship, when the ship righted it self the boom flipped back and when it hit the back stops the entire rig collapsed, miraculously only injuring 19 people. The damage was originally thought to be some Euro 50 million. There is footage of the collapse sequence. Very dramatic.
I think you are confusing this with the Liebherr HLC 295000 Crane installed on the vessel Orion. The Saipem collapse was actually due to a hoisting cable failure but no significant damage to the boom was reported thankfully.
@@bamafan-in-OZ Correct. The hook break was on the Orion. I’d love to see the final report on that failure. There were 2 possibilities from the glimpses that I saw, either the main housing split in half or the tapered thread of the hook unscrewed itself. I think that it was the first option but don’t fully know how these hooks are designed. At the moment here in Schiedam we are enjoying watching the up grading of the Wind Orca and its sister lifting platform ship.
@@williambunting803 that would certainly be interesting to see. From what I remember the 4 way hook assembly is mounted on a shaft that hangs down from the hook block. At the end of the shaft they fit a retaining cap with bearings on top to allow the hook assembly to rotate, it was this cap that broke off and the hook assembly separated from the block with the shaft remaining attached to the block.
Great!!!!!
Was on the Balder upgrade in the Botlek Rotterdam, worked on the others there too
That's cool
Hi @patriotamerican62, thanks for your comment. Hope you enjoyed the video 🙂
This guy sounds like ernie
“ The powerful thrusters in the front and the bow thrusters “ Same thing…….

really impressive lifting cranes! And to make them, an unrealistic amount of money was spent. BUT, unfortunately, humanity cannot boast of the same gigantic projects that would be directed to the treatment of people who cannot pay for the necessary medical services or to solve housing issues, for example. This explains the attitude of most countries of the world towards their citizens... May God forgive our world for this...
God? Really? Why do you believe in this "god" myth?
How about people who can't afford things stop having kids?
Both the Thialf and the Sleipnir are regularly parked in the New Maas River near Rotterdam. I drive past them on my way to work, I can see them from 35 kilometers away easily as they stand way above the flat landscape. The Sleipnir has an accommodation structure that can house some 600 people, and I believe that it is powered entirely from Natural Gas that is stored in its hull. They are wonderful machines to watch.
I am not sure if a horse with eight legs is very efficient.
@@woolysamoan That depends on what you ask the horse to do.
It is certainly on my bucket list to see just one of these vessels one day, it must be an awesome sight
You mean to tell me that this crane can lift a Perry Class Frigate which weighs around 4,100 tons
Change that voice
What is the strongest crane in the world?
the Taisun craneHolding the record for the top 3 heaviest lifts; the Taisun crane in China is the strongest crane that exists in the world today. With a working load limit of over 44 million pounds or 20,000 metric tons this crane is surely a modern marvel. The amount of wire rope required to operate Taisun is nearly 50,000 meters or just over 31 miles; allowing it to lift a maximum of 80 meters. While not everyone may need 31 miles of wire rope, or have a need to lift 44 million pounds, we have a wide variety of materials required to lift, push, pull, and move whatever is in your way.

Learn what "monstrosity" really means. As used here it's obvious you haven't a clue.
You think that the brains 🧠 in Baltimore would 🤔 of called for a REAL CRANE???
They did, can only lift 1,000 ton 😮 what a joke 🙄.
1000 will be plenty for the cut up pics.
