@ABC gang Hype man? Nobody grounds boats, hits objects at sea? Just 2 weeks ago that boat Raindancer hit a whale in the Pacific on the way from Panama to the South Pacific. The keel pushed up, put a giant hole in the boat and it sank in 15 minutes.

@ABC gang Raindancer sank like a rock. It suffered the fate that Dick said would happen if you hit something at sea. So he was proven right again. If you hot a container or whale, you're farked

that is a great explorer sailboat!
I think the mast height of the 60', would potentially preclude using that for much of anything in the US ICW - East and SE/Coast.
I could be wrong, though ... I know S/V Delos had some challenges vs the ICW, though she took a beating comign down the Eastern seaboard US. S/V Delos, FYI - is a 2000 Super Marmu (IIRC) - 53', bulb keel, ketch (iirc) rig.

That's quite a ship! I have always loved heavy winds and big surf, since my first time crewing when I was 12. Going threw crazy weather back as a kid, I just assumed that is how sailing goes. Going thru survival training when I was 12, I was never afraid of working the foredeck! I raced on a 40 footer, and soloed it when I was 14! These new boats are incredible. Racing a boat, gives you a different perspective on when you consider the weather is to bad to go out! Racers, don't pull in a shelter. We reef the sails, and keep the boat speed up no matter what! Thanks for the great video. I did just subscribe!

The calm saloon and the exhilaration of sailing. Curious about lifting keel , increase in speed obvious but how does it affect handling ? Presume Garcia give suggestions . Hi guys, you made a good job, thank you! About Garcia they are in the group of Grand Large including Outremer, Gun Boats, and Allures yachting, they don't play ball and have an excellent reputation.
I sailed High latitudes and I do think this kind of boat is for an extremely limited target.
The true war is on the 44 To 55 feet and this is absolutely interesting for many reasons, to see the evolutions, and also to (for some of us) make our dream true. In the same company, Allures 40 & 44 Are Confident for high latitudes.

They are semi-protective skegs, the rudders themselves have a sacrificial zone built into the top of them in case of impact (crumple zone) so they don't pierce the hull. hope that helps.

Hello there, coming back to the formidable and beautiful Garcia Exploration 60, I read a full article about this very unit on Yacht Class Monaco #33 and they talked about a sofa in the owner's cabin (full width aft of the boat), but of all the videos I have seen (six videos so far) , there is no mention or footage of a sofa shown inside the main cabin of that boat. As a matter of fact, that was specifically a draw back for me that there is no sofa inside the main cabin on such a large yacht, only an island queen size bed. Can you shed some light on this for us, please ?

I have always wondered about the lifting/swing keels on large boats vis-a-vis maintenance, and how barnacles and weed etc might clog or jam the keel box (or whatever arrangement they have)...and how easy it would be to clean out this gunk, (or apply anti-foul) either in-water or once the boat is out. Can anybody comment on this aspect of large boat, lifting/swing keel designs.

I was looking at a 159ft Steel yacht coupla yrs ago. 12ft 6 in blade up. 24ft 3in Down. Vertical not swing They had metal blades with rubber/plastic? backing on them adjustable to board dia.
Up/Down. Most cleaned off. but they did say not more than 24 months between lifts and paint. (in tropics)
We got some "Submarine " Antifoul paint 25/30 yrs ago when they building those Collins down in Adelaide. It kept my 32ft Steel bottom smooth as for over 5 yrs at a time. THAT paint should be on the market hey.
Decades ago, Dutch superyachts put a layer of Copper/bronze over hull underwater. Just a wipe with a brush shifted all. Some actually PLATED the below water of vessels with it.Super exxy though, even in those days.

Hey! How are you? Do you think it would be possible for a person to travel alone on this sailboat with its configuration?

    • @SVTONICBoatWives
      @SVTONICBoatWives  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It would be possible, but not something I would recommend. A boat of this size really should be a minimum of two. Garcia does have a new 52ft that can be single-handed, or the Allures 45.9,/ 51.9. I hope that helps.

Can anyone comment on how easy/difficult it is to maintain the lifting/swing keels on large boats, e.g. do barnacles and weed clog or jam the mechanism?, how easy is it to remove gunk from the keel box either in-water or on the hard? how easy is it to apply anti-foul to areas of the keel box?

Shouldn't be a problem that Crops up. Even 50ft boats struggle to find vacant Marina Berths. Still not as badly as Catamarans and Trimarans struggle though. Hence my boat length limit range for my next boat is between 43ft and 46ft OAL. with a decent Beam to have reasonable internal volume to help ease the potential below deck temperature problems in Tropical places, which is exacerbated generally with most centre Cockpit designs, and raised deck Saloon "glasshouses" and the like. There is a surprisingly good, and very affordable 60ft Sailboat for those addicted to acquiring boat length problems . Frankly I was so shocked at how good it is, I started to look through what they are building under 50ft in length, but couldn't find anything sensible . It's the New Beneteau Oceanis 60. For under 1 million euros. Aquaholic did a nice walk around tour of it. frankly, if that wealthy to have a Waterfront house with a Private jetty to Dock it, and not have to worry about Marina berthing, I'd buy one. But if like me, you are Cruising for the journeys as much as the destinations, and realistically are going to need Marina Berthing when you do really need it, then Pass. Best Wishes. Bob.

@@SVTONICBoatWives Which works for heat output only above + 6 degrees C ish. so the Heat exchanger really needs to be passive and keel mounted and in water above that temperature to get any heat output (normally seawater stays warm enough longer than the Air temperature does. My Heat exchanger equipped Air Conditioning Unit was only useful for Dehumidifying and air filtration when it got under 6 degrees C, no Heat at all when you really need it. The same issue affects Grpund Heat Pumps that can inly work sustainably in Volcanic areas, where there is constant warming to keep the ground from freezing, otherwise all you are creating is Permafrost, which is why already there are so many complaints of ground Heatpumps ceasing to work. There are some really crazy promises being made about what expensive installations are able to deliver. It is Pssible to Create an underground Heat Store, so that heat a Home through the Winter, but doing it properly isn't cheap and has to be done as part of a new Build, which .I designed into an Octagonal Timber Framed House I planned to Build, which also had all around insulation up to ground floor insulation on the Foundation Walls and active Heat exchanging ventilation, so incoming air would be warned by the outgoing air, but I wasn't prepared to Bribe the Local Government to get planning, so they rejected it. A friend had what was probably the highest quality Timber Frane Construction business in the World, and I designed a system of Construction for him, that would deliver at keast 95% of the energy economies of the Canadian R2000 Standard, for 5% of the price. Sadly three local Authority Councillors had New Homes built for them, then Just didn't Pay him, which finished his business. Too many Timber frame Homes today, are nothing but poorly built cheap glorified Sheds, and they just aren't put together in structurally sound ways, for example, using Sterling board, which has no structural strength at all, and panels are just skew nailed to each other, and the wall plate. The only thing holding them up, is the exterior walls. Give me a GRP Boat any day. Best Wishes and Fair Winds. Bob (also an ex Civil and Structural Engineer QS/Surveyor for my sins ). 👍⛵️✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Incidentally, one thing I did not see on the Garcia 60, which was part of the 52 as well as the 45, is a cup holder on the helm consoles (both starboard and port). That may seem like a minute detail for some, but I think it's a nice feature to have : you are at the helm and you can sip your drink at will and place your cup back in its holder within reach.
