  • Today I review the 2020 Lexus GX 460. Now this body style has remained the same since 2010 so as far as spacing is concerned, this review is relevant for 2010-2022. The technology and infotainment center has been redesigned for 2022 however. I had some very mixed feelings on this luxury SUV... what do you think?

Reliability and longevity -- some of us weight those factors really heavily, and these are the Lexus strong suits. I like to buy long-term. I don't have a GX, though -- I have an RX and would like a 3rd row next time -- either RXL or GX or 4Runner or MDX or Highlander. Some of us aren't into "sporty performance" or infotainment bells and whistles. I essentially want a dependable Toyota, but a little nicer. Not willing to pay for Range Rover/Audi/BMW repair bills, headaches, and earlier replacement. The GX has a great engine and is pretty darn rugged -- big pluses for those of us who live up north.

We have a 2004 gx and my god this vehicle will out live me and I’m 34. It’s the same vehicle she just reviewed and yup they didn’t change anything in nearly 20 years lol. No issues with transmission or motor, thing runs as good as the day we bought it…it was my parents first and boy this car is special in the longevity/reliability segment.

Yes everything you say is accurate and correct. Personally, I would put up with everything you mentioned just because of the reliability. Another thing you did not touch on was depreciation. Try to find a cheap used GX and you will not. Because of its rugged build quality and its offroad capability its very popular with overlanders thus being very sought after in the secondary market. You don't see any Tahoes, Explorers or Honda Pilots being converted to off road vehicles, but you see plenty of GX's. Out of all the cars i mentioned, I would buy the GX if I could.

As a owner of a 2010 GX 460, a lot of this is opinionated complaints and whining, more than design flaws. I fucking love the dash design, and the climate button's better customizability, you literally have to press 2 buttons instead off the same button that you would still have to look at to know which one you're pressing, and once you press them regularly you literally won't even have to look at the screen anymore. The GX isn't made to appease mom's it's a off roader not a parent on the go car, and will always be one, even if it works as a family car due to it's size it's not one, that's like buying a jeep and complaining that their no space. It wasn't made for that dawg.

Dated instrument panel doesn’t define reliability. I had a RAM Limited with all the bells and whistles and I can say with confidence the instrument panel was junk. Also, not to mention the transmission was also junk cause it needed to be replaced at 69,000 miles. So when I see reviews like these I ask myself what about reliability? Hands down reliability should be the biggest factor in choosing a vehicle. This vehicle’s reliability track record is well established! Simply put it, if you are looking for an SUV that’s reliable and low cost to maintain look no further. Oh and Lexus customer service after the sale is second to none.

Careful…you’re going to draw the ire of the Toyota fanboy cult. We have a GX460 and we’re thinking of trading it for a Ford Explorer for exactly the reasons you described.

Lexus always misses the mark with infotainment and features. Sorry. I agree just want to change the temp easily while driving.

You can. The only thing that you don't have a button for is manual fan speed. There are buttons for auto fan speed and fan off.

@@rich7447 That is true more I think I do have the red and blue buttons for climate. I guess the hardest/biggest distraction is changing radio station. Steering wheel controls only change through presets, vs being able to seek or tune with steering controls.

@@A_Von The steering wheel button preset thing seems to be pretty common. My Ram has the same issue.

I looked at the 2021 model and ended up buying a Toyota Highlander Hybrid platinum. It’s just as luxurious (probably more so) and Infotainment and trunk space are better and gas mileage too. The only thing it doesn’t have is a Lexus badge.

Too bad dealerships are marking these up minimum 5k over MSRP…. Also i don’t like the back door opens sideways instead of up, which may be a problem in tight pull in parking spaces. There are much better options for similar pricing.
