Nothing else. I am going to look for a used, lease returned, dealer cert with low miles. This car is simply for life, IF you care for it. Lexus is truly for life.

    I also have a 2019 Avalon with the newer button style. I hit a nasty pothole at 75mph yesterday because I took my eyes off the road for a few seconds to adjust my cruise speed setting. Fortunately no damage.

    Your initial ownership video was icing on the cake of our decision to buy one for my wife. Just to further validate your great deal, we too paid $56k against MSRP of $63,200. (No Mark Levinson, second-row bench). Fortunately, no driveline issues, no steering wheel heat issues, no USB port issues. We just passed the three-month mark, with 2,900 miles on the clock. My wife loves it, and I really enjoy it. The mix of quirky tech, thoughts of how great it'd be with an eight-speed transmission, lack of auto stop/start, and reconciling driving a brand-new 15-year-old vehicle all kind of add to it's charm.
    Totally an "I remain a 13-year-old boy" spend, but I swapped out the stock muffler for a Borla Pro XS, and added a 4" rolled SS exhaust tip. The exhaust tone is really subtle, and still silent at cruise, but now cold starts and throttle tip-in offers that sweet reminder that there is indeed a V8 under the hood.

    • @drw1926
      @drw1926 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is the Borla muffler specifically for the GX? Was it pretty much "plug and play", or were any modifications required?

    • @jerryburdick8051

      @@drw1926 Nope, universal. P/N 40659. The important specs: 2.5" offset inlet and 2.5" center outlet. It's notably shorter than the stock muffler, so you/muffler shop will need to add a short 2.5" extension.

    I was in a very similar spot to you. I had a 992 T and a 1999 5 speed 4Runner. I traded the T for the winter, and didn’t want to spend another season in a 25 year old Toyota.
    I spent 2 months searching for a manual Bronco. And at $60k out the door - just couldn’t stomach that for poor build quality and no creature comforts.
    I test drove a GX on December 24th - love at first sight. Smaller than it looks, so comfortable and luxurious. And man - that build quality is just so nice. No rattles, no squeaks. I also have mark Levinson and a red interior, atomic silver exterior with no air suspension. $67k MSRP and I paid $59k for mine.
    3 months/1300 miles later I am so, so happy. It’s my first automatic in 10 years but it has character. And more importantly - it allows me to share my love of cars with the people who matter to me. Friends ask to be driven in it, I’m gearing up for my first road trip in it. It’s a great city street parking car here in Chicago and just all around really safe and comfortable. And I like the surprise third row
    I am considering undercoating mine, have you thought about it? And I have the same USB issue, thought it was my cable. Have you seen any fixes online?
    Appreciate the debrief and love your collection and channel. I have a Boxster GTS coming in July and I think it’ll make for a nice two car solution
    Despite it not being “special” - I think it radiates tons of soul. Can’t wait to make good memories in mine

    I love the carrots and ice cream analogy. That looks really funny out of context. Anyway, I feel the same thing - when I drive the wife's X3, it is carrots. It's not a boring car, but it does provide a palate cleanser before I get back into the IS 500. I would say your cars are definitely more ice cream, where the IS 500 is more like sugary cereal lol. But anyway. I agree, even car guys need a chill cruiser that just encourages comfy, relaxed driving. I still think it is wild that you have a GX - I never pictured that. But I get it - something to putt around in and keep the miles off the toys. Enjoy it!

    I own the same truck (2023 GX 460 Premium Plus), purchased Dec 4, 2023. Eminent White Pearl/Sepia. Just a couple of my own observations after almost 4 months and about 1500 miles of driving, following ownership of a 2019 Toyota 4Runner SR5:
    1. It IS a truck. It's. A. Truck. Truck truck truck truck truck. Got it? It's a truck. Get over it, people.
    2. How to fix poor driveability perception: drive a Toyota 4Runner produced within the past 10 years. Now drive your GX. See? Fixed.
    3. Seems like my steering wheel heats evenly, although I live in TX, so I don't have frequent need to use it, even in the winter. I have used it a handful of times though.
    4. I haven't noticed any issues with my USB ports, although I have a short work commute, so I don't plug in my phone often. Seems like it/they've worked fine when I used them. I am obsessively OCD and I HATE covers being left open in my center console, so I pull out cables and close the covers unless they are absolutely necessary.
    5. The AC is much easier to turn off than what you demonstrated. Either a) push Menu, Climate, then the little double ^ button below the mouse pad. Click the green A/C off; or b) open the submenu screen (to the right of the display), select the climate icon, then click the green A/C off.
    6. Dislikes: no "SYNC" function for the climate control (i.e., you have to adjust the driver and passenger temps separately.) I hate the foot operated parking brake; either an electric brake or a hand lever would be 1000x better. I wish GX's had the 4Runner tailgate, to get the roll-down window and the traditional opening tailgate. The side-opening tailgate is genuinely a pain in the @$$ at times, particularly during Costco runs. I hate that the turn signal doesn't have a lane change function (won't flash 3 times on its own). You have to either hold it up/down, or manually turn the turn signal on or off when you change lanes. (Oh wait - this is Texas, we don't use our turn signals for any reason. Ever. Never mind.) I don't like how my plastic front bumper panels don't exactly color match the metal body panels, due to the difference in materials. I hate that I see a dozen other white GX 460's every day driving to and from work (should have bought an Atomic Silver or Nightfall Mica as originally intended).
    7. Likes: the smooth, silent operation of the V8 and the 6-speed transmission; the ginormous frame beams and control arms that look like they were built to survive Armageddon; the build quality, the silent interior. The first thing my wife and anyone who sits in my vehicle says is "wow, it's so quiet!" Why yes, yes it is. The overall ownership experience of this tank, the fact that it is/was manufactured in Aichi, Japan at Toyota's Tahara assembly plant by Toyota's most senior and experienced assembly workers, alongside the Land Cruiser, LC Prado, 4Runner, and Lexus LX. Flipping the bird to the current administration that wants to force us all into EVs, whether we want them or not and whether it's the right decision or not.

      I totally concur! I hear all of the raves about the new GX 550, but I am unimpressed with these reviews, to include the 'fact' that the new GX 550s are more expensive, and have a wait-list of 6-12 months time ands the interior is less plush; also, the EKDSS is not standard nor is the moonroof, except on specific models.

    The drive-line quirks are prevalent in my 05 Tundra as well. Sometimes when its super cold you will be at a stop on the brakes and it almost feels like someone rear ended you slightly. If I'm not mistaken, this is slight play on the U Joints on the driveshaft. Its engineered that way to have some give. Also when slowing down to 10mph ish and getting on the gas, the transmission acts funky. I'm pretty sure its the torque converter locking/ unlocking. Super good video as always 👍

    Dang, that is a sweet deal! We bought ours in earlier 2023, got 1k off the $62k MSRP, which at the time was a steal. We just rolled 12k miles and are still in love. It hauls our Wolf Pup trailer great and has no problem towing it up in the mountains. I put in a RedArc trailer brake controller and the blue Sumo Springs and now it hauls beautifully. We were in the same boat, I couldn't fit a Yukon/Tahoe in our 1950's era garage, but the GX fits just fine. I like the compactness in parking lots and on narrow USFS roads, too. The factory nav and UI are pretty rough, but Android Auto looks good and works well. I found a USB dongle for wireless Android Auto that has been great. I also found a little power supply that plugs right in the factory harness in the rearview mirror to power my Garmin Mini dashcam, no visible wires, 10/10 recommend. Great review, thanks for sharing. Edit: From the factory, my steering wheel was a few degrees off-center. They aligned the car at my complimentary 5k service and it's straight now.

    Definitely agree on having the diverse fleet of cars. Despite I can put the „Porsche GTS 4-litre only parking” on my parking spot my cars cannot be more more different from one another since one is a N/A flat six midship roadster and the second one is a V8TT family hauler SUV. I absolutely love them both, actually I believe that I finally got this ultimate #twocarsolution and it’s exactly as you said - each time I do a switch it’s way easier for me to appreciate their strengths. No matter which I choose, it’s always a pleasure to drive!

      Yeah, used to work up there and to try to get form 146 south to 295 south can be basically suicidal if there is enough traffic. There is just is not enough room to merge. Going from 146 north to 99 north could get pretty wild as well! Combine this with level of driving on 146 in general, and your commute that is guaranteed to get on your nerves. I've been passed MULTIPLE TIMES by people IN THE BREAKDOWN LANE on 146 while I'm doing 80+ MPH in the right lane. Yikes! 😬

      @QueLaFe 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@carolinacars739 yeah, people in those island are phychopaths. I’m more nervous getting back on 146 from 295 cause with the construction that’s been going on, there is only like 20 feet to merge on instead of the big lane, so sometimes people are stopped at the end of the ramp because of cars in the right lane. 146 in my opinion is one of the worse highways, especially since a lot of other on-ramps are designed awfully for the speed of the highway

    The cruise control stock is really useful and doesn't take your eyes off the road. We have it in both of our Toyota vehicles and yeah dude, I'd already be used to the Lexus GX if I drove one cause both our Toyotas are pre-2012 and aside from loaner vehicles, we never driven an owned vehicle newer than a 2011 which is what my dad has. We're not loaded with money, we can't afford anything newer but when the time comes to upgrade, he'd be leasing so that way he can get a new Grand Highlander or Subaru Outback that he's interested in and can lease newer models every few years. I of course, will be going with a 2016-2019 vehicle, especially if I go with a muscle car or Porsche because I do not like big infotainment screens and I don't like the all-digital dash of the gauges. I prefer analog gauges (at least the speedometer), and I prefer a reliable old fashioned radio. Ok maybe they're not the most reliable but you can replace radios a hell of a lot cheaper than infotainment screens for sure and I guess I'm in the minority but I use the cd player to play burned cds on my long drives and I do lots of long distance driving since just about everything I go to is about 1 hour or more away from my place.

    9:17 that was definitely unexpected 😅 It’s so rare to see close calls like that on car reviews, i always encourage people that I know to get dashcams and that’s why!!
    I also love the comparison between eating carrots for six months then eating ice cream feels so good. I have a 4Runner TRD Off-road and a GR86 and it’s so good to take the GR86 out after daily driving 4Runner. Everything is so instant (the braking, steering, etc.) compared to the 4Runner, but that’s what I like bout the 4Runner. It feels like a tank when I drive it. I always made a joke about the tow hitch in our 4Runner protecting our car because if someone were to hit it, they would’ve ended up destroying their bumper and radiator because we’re so high up 😂
    I also loved how the Toyota Navigation told you welcome to a new state. I take road trips almost every month or every other month, almost 65k miles on our 2021 after a cross country US trip and multiple other out of state places

Yes the GX 550 excels in off-road usage. but how many people use a $70-$80K vehicle for rugged off-road use? Also be careful of any 'first year' new model introduction, as nice upgrade changes will be coming about in year #2 or #3. Both the engineers and consumers will be giving feedback on the first year GX 550, so wait a year or two if you can for the GX 550, plus the wait time will be reduced and more, better colors offered.

    Wow! $56K- that is a 4Runner price, so you got a great deal. This is an old, comfortable, gas-hog SUV/truck body-on-frame luxury vehicle! It is NOT a sports car, so you purchase the GX 460 with all of its limitations and benefits accordingly. The GX 500 is more oriented and marketed as an off-road SUV and that's fine, but most SUVs never leave the road/pavement. I love the smooth, steady V8, which goes as fast as I can safely drive it around the suburbs and highway. I had my GX 460 up to 80 mph and it had zero issues and it was as smooth as when I drive it at 45 mph. The KDSS is great too especially in corners. The elegant slow GX 460 makes your a safer more responsible driver,, you're not in a hurry to get anywhere fast in the GX 460, you simply enjoy the steady ride that gets your comfortably to your destination. Also, the GX 550 only gets 1 mpg over the V8 GX 460
