Dell Optiplex: Make Front Panel Standard To Use Any Motherboard

  • This time around I decided to make a video on making dell front I/O panels standard to allow you to use any motherboard on these machines. This process is actually relatively simple and just a tad bit janky. Nonetheless, I actually have not found a proper guide doing this so I put up this one to share some knowledge not found anywhere else. This case will be used for a build in the very near future so make sure you subscribe so you don't miss what I believe to be the weirdest and most senseless build on youtube.

    Thanks mate! It worked like a charm. Now I run a Ryzenplex :)
    For people looking for a cheap panel to swap out the ports I used a HP Pro Desk 600 G1 SFF Frontpanel 711581, had to cut a little of the black plastic for the thicker cables but the ports fit really well.

    I'm considering swapping a new motherboard into my 9010 MT so hopefully I can put this video to good use. Probably won't bother with the hard drive LED's though... Thanks for taking the time to make this!

    Thanks! Just done it and it all fits really nice finish. I had a usb 2.0, two usb 3.0 and usb type c which also fit flush with the front panel! Looks sweet thanks man 🤘🏻 subbed

    just finished doing this, i found that the usb's sit further forward by 2-3mm than the original, but once mounted in the case they sit perfectly flush with the case, great guide you saved me alot of headaches :)

    Do you happen to know of any other front I/O’s that would work for this. I can’t find the Corsair one that you used in stock anywhere :(

      HP Pro Desk 600 G1 SFF Frontpanel 711581 worked for me, if you still looking. Cables are too short thought so one needs extension cables for USB.

    19:24 I kind of wish you filmed this part. Are the butt connectors required or could you remove the wire from the tabs on the dell connector and put them in the corsair connector?

    Damn, found this after the fact. I used this method to put a 4th gen Precision mobo (has USB 3.0) into a early 3nd gen Optiplex MT case (only had 2.0) to mod & upgrade.
    I pushed toothpicks under all the plastic tabs so they wouldn't break & comes apart easy. Had to cut new wire slots & was able to keep the data light also & hot glue it in place.

    Great video, thank you !
    i've been looking to case swap my ptiplex 3020 but i was having a hard time because of adapters that dont work on sff models (according to the vendor).
    That method should solve my problem.
    Because honestly, having old optiplex front io hub inside the case and not being able to power on with the new case switch button is really disapointing.
    You dont have an optimal experience.
    So every optiplex have same wiring ? it's going to work with 3020 ?
    (I mean rewiring in a new case to make the new case DELL optiplex 3020 friendly)

    • @ELProtech

      You pretty much need just the guts I opted for a front panel of a corsair 750d because it matches the dell layout and it has standard pinouts.

    So if I wanted to make the front USB ports and headphone jack work on the case I just put my dell optiplex in all I have to do is put the dell parts into the new case front panel and it should work rite because they say you can’t use the dell front panel on a new case.

    • @ELProtech
      @ELProtech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I did it the other way around I replaced the dell board with and aftermarket one. But if you want to use a dell board in an aftermarket case the you can swap the connectors and wires to the front panel of your new case.

    • @ELProtech

      My best guess is to take the casing completely apart. I have never personally taken apart one of these and have no idea if they are held together with screws or plastic clips or both.

    • @Averse07
      @Averse07 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The optiplex 780 has a proprietary motherboard (one that you can’t upgrade.) If your asking if a gtx 780 would work in the 3010, you would have to upgrade the power supply but then it would.
