I drove the Twizzy RS the other day. i was buying a Dacia Dokker for work, and the RS stood next to the van area (Dacia's are sold by renault). The salesman asked if i wanted a try in it, so me and my mate took it around the block in pouring rain, it was hilarious. Its not that quick to be honest but you legit have a feeling of its not supposed to be on the road. Its 10/10 fun and we drove it with the lights on so every1 is watching:D (the RS has a safetycar light on)
I love my Twizy, some things you’ll want: Heated seat pad Powerbox (makes Twizy very quick!) Upgraded windows that cover the entire hole I’ve also made some heaters for mine! I’m near London, let me know if you wanna do a Twizy meet-up!😁
There is extra storage than what you showed on a Twizy, the actual rear seat itself can be flipped upside down and turned into a storage box. :) (Bought my own Twizy recently)
I had one for 18 months and upgraded to a Smart EV. It was crazy fun but my daughter was too embarrased to be seen near me. By the way Motorways no problem, I drove every other day up the M1 to Junction 5...!
Indeed. Some aspects of it looks like some really poor design choices. Those windows are definitely an afterthought, that's why they don't fit and they block the door handle. Renault should have considered them in the design phase. They also should have considered an optional back seat cover with a lock, to use it to store stuff securely if you don't want to use the back seat (who would anyway?)

Yep, making your journey ten times longer waiting for buses and delayed trains is always fun. Especially in the cold or rain. Then, there's the endless amount of fun things that can happen to you once you're on public transport, like fighting with people for seats, or watching others annoy each other for myriad reasons, get into a fight, get assaulted, or watch someone puke their guts out on the weekend. What's not to like?

I run the risk of sounding like a broken record but as a lifelong commuter in London that's only changed over to cars in the last couple of years, there's absolutely no comparison. The only thing is you have to pay for the privilege of your own vehicle. But I still say it's well worth it.
All the congestion charge actually does is remove poor people from the roads and makes their lives harder. Also you have to try the Twizy in the rain, I bet it steams up like a greenhouse.

My wife and I rented a Twizy from Avis a few days ago, on Mo'orea (close to Tahiti). The charge was enough to circle around the island once, and then some. We had a blast, it was so much fun!
I remember the Smart for Two being advertised as being able to park perpendicular to the curb. However many owners got tickets for doing so. I noticed the rear wheels where right on the White line of the Parking zone. I think an overzealous Traffic Warden would give you a ticket for not being fully in the space.

Can you not get a regular license at 16 where you are? Here in NH you automatically have your learners permit and can get a license to drive any passenger vehicle by that time.
@@debbiepeter112 The NH situation is fairly unusual (and pretty cool imo) for the US. In most states you take the written test to get your permit, then the practical to get your license. Some states have a minimum time period between the two, some don't.
You can change the windows to winter and rain proof they also fit way better they are called twy rain windows...... Also another feature (not safe) but you don't have to pull at the window to access the door handle you can adjust the zipper so you open the zip and open the door.... Love the video
In most of Europe cars are occupied by about 1.2 passengers on average. So a two seater like this totally makes sense. If you just want to carry some small filming equipment, a bag of groceries etc., you don't need to haul 4 empty seats around like you usually do when you drive alone in any full size car. But I think the Twizy could really use some slight adjustments to become more usable as a daily driver: - Actual doors with solid windows that completely enclose the inside and allow you to lock stuff inside - Slightly higher top speed of ~100 km/h so you can take it on the Autobahn for short distances without having all the trucks overtake you I don't think a heater is absolutely necessary because you can just wear winter clothes in the car. Like you would do when walking outside or cycling in the winter. My parents had a hybrid without an electric heater. It took a little getting used to, but that car only had heat when the petrol engine was running. So in electric mode (which they used 98% of the time), you had to wear a jacket. Because of the high efficiency of an electric motor, there really is not enough waste heat from the drivetrain to use for heating the cabin

If they bring out an updated model with real windows, a larger battery that could do 100/150 miles per charge and maybe add a boot compartment it would be a good proposition.
I rented one of these Twizzys while visiting a tiny island off the coast of Portugal. It was very practical for getting round (small island meant battery use was within reason). However when you seat two adults above 5.5 ft tall with camera gear, that's when you realise how tiny and uncomfortable this thing is. It was fun to drive though!
The problem is that the thing is 7500 euros (converted from pounds). You have the following options: 1. Buy a nice second hand car (Bmw or mercedes) and you have a good car that you can use everywhere. (But you have to pay in those ''congestion zones'') 2. Buy the Renault Twizy, get a toy with a 20 mile action radius that takes 4 hour to charge. But you dont have to pay congestion fees. My point is that not a lot of people will buy this. Even for short trips in the city i would rather get a moped, that a toy car that costs 7+K euros
Really enjoyed this analysis, I own a twizy in London and have a powerbox that remaps the ECU to give 80% more power, I wouldn't mind lending that for a video to show the twizy's full potential.
I've been looking to buy a used Twizy but the rental battery just kills the idea. I'm now thinking of building a battery to fit the same space and attach a towbar with a small petrol genny on a trailer.
Snow on central London is a once every two or three year thing, and even then it's gone in a few hours. You might be waiting a while for that drifting video.
Instead of comparing it to cars, I would rather compare it to a Vespa. The practicality is probably about the same, but traveling comfort is significantly higher plus you can go all year.
Having suspension problems? The suspension does not need a long stroke strut to get a more civilized ride, that can be fixed and cushioned even in the seats. Storage space? A small trunk or bonnet with a lock can be designed and shaped to be in the front securely, headlights relocated to accommodate this modification is Renault up to the challenge? Put more car in it.

I've driven 12K in 1 year with my Twizy until I had to sell it due to my movement to another country. From all the stuff I've left behind, this is the only thing I genuinely miss. The range is a real shit, but if you plan your travels wisely (and carry a powercord of 25m) it's doable. I remember me charging on a generator of the road construction guys on to the A2 highway near Amsterdam. So many hilarious events occurred when driving this thing, I miss it. Yours looks way better tough :P
Twizys are great we ow 2 and the have a modified suspension and we added on solid roof boxes, so you can imagine what they are like! Powerbox is nice for getting it fast, but OVMS makes it perfect you caset it to your driving perfile recovery mode and its much cheaper than powerbox. You will get a one pedal driving car ! You forgott to mention the baterie rent !
I've sold my car and motorcycle. Just got twizy! Living in Gothenburg (Sweden) and using it 24/7 in winter too! I have no windows in my because it is not needed. Drive hard and buy the powerbox!
Drive to Eastcote in West London and come to try my tuned Twizy... 80% increase in torque including a top speed over 60 mph. On a wet day we'll do donuts 😊
How do they enforce the congestion tax, Is it via CCTV cameras, or is it via toll booth, or is it by your local address when you register your vehicle?
There is a battery rental charge Sam, tell us what that is in terms of rental and charging costs. I like the idea even though I live in rural France. Here one can buy a secondhand Twizy with less than 10k kms on the clock for about €6000. For me going into town to do some food shopping and post office etc, this would be an ideal option.
This thing doesn't solve any of your problems: you can't use it to go filming because of the lack of storage and you can't go far enough from your place without recharging it halfway.
Would you be worried about security ? If all you do is pull that window a little and I'm in ... maybe a brief hotwire and off I trot ! It also doesn't look too practical for 2 people.

You should definitely take it out on a spin if their is some snow. RWD + low center of gravity + no ESP is a great combo for drifting in the city.

You can also turn the rear seat into sort of a locable chamber by turning it upside down and locking it.
By opening the rear storage you can return the rear seat, transforming it into a storage box. Same seise as a box on a scooter.

Ours is fitted with a Mini R56 side sun visor, proper side windows (lockable and with a small access window - not the Renault ones) and heated seats !

I think you can get some cases that you can mount to the rear bumper, to store additional things

There is a battery rental charge Sam, tell us what that is in terms of rental and charging costs. I like the idea even though I live in rural France. Here one can buy a secondhand Twizy with less than 10k kms on the clock for about €6000. For me going into town to do some food shopping and post office etc, this would be an ideal option.
Try living with the Twizy during the cold months in Vladivostok, I betcha a fiver.
This thing doesn't solve any of your problems: you can't use it to go filming because of the lack of storage and you can't go far enough from your place without recharging it halfway.
One option of a replacement are one of those Classic Fiat 500's converted to EV power. (Created by Classic Chrome).

For storage they actually made a backpack you can hang on the back of the front seat... Still not great for two-person driving
you can have another version without the second seat and for that you get a back compartment. Its enough to do your groceries ^^
