I've decided to prove that the Renault Twizy can work in the real world by doing real world things!

I wish they'd fitted doors that actually seal it up, I think they'd have been more popular if you didn't get wet with the doors closed.
jango1968 I think it’s classed as a quad bike, perhaps full doors would have brought it into scope for full car safety regs and tests?

You can get windows so easily now, some just clip on, some fitted, but all cheap. It makes a thousand times better.
It's almost inconceivable they didn't even bother to make it water proof. Just AMAZING.

I am Swedish, I use it as my daily driver! And I actually use it to transport a smaller film set as I run my own Film Company. If you live in a bigger city it is amazing.
Your missing out on one of the biggest storage areas in a twizy, to the left and right of the seat. I am CERTAIN, you can fit your wheels there.

I owned one for a year and communted to work 7 mile each way everyday. Only had 3 days in the whole year that I didn't use it. Oh! and I didn't have any any windows. Yes I did have doors though. I even drove it back from the Lake district about 100 miles with some careful charge planning. Loved owning it.

Twizy would be grate if they made a real door and twice lower price tag.
The twizy needs to be tuned, without tuning it’s not fun, With tuning it’s a go kart and a huge amount of fun. I use mine every day even if I don’t have to!
andy kirby , how do you tune it? What output did you get?
Paul von Düsseldorf you get a thing called a powerbox and plug it in to the ODBII port and it doubles the power,torque and removes the 50mph limit.
It's pretty fun without the tuning, but I can only imagine how it feels like being tuned.

manaquri nope, it does 35 miles in high power mode. Most of the power is used in acceleration and your not doing that all the time.

Frugality is a beautiful thing
I live in the United States, and so of course I drive a pickup truck, I couldn't imagine living with this thing. I drive a 2005 chevy Colorado with an extended cab (which isn't even very big for a pickup truck) and I can just throw things in the back without even thinking about the size. I once managed to fit a go cart in the back of it. But with this thing, if you plan to carry anything, size always has to be a consideration, and most of the things I carry on a regular basis, simply won't fit. Now while the car is pretty entertaining to look at, I never plan on getting one. And also, the 50 mph speed cap on it, isn't enough for me, every day I take a highway with a speed limit of 70 mph, and I would probably get pulled over a lot if I went that slow. And not to mention, if it could go 70 mph, I wouldn't feel even remotely safe going that speed. And the weather here in America is RUTHLESS, especially in the summer. No heating OR a/c? No thanks.

I have a Twizy and use it for food delivery. I wish I had a roof box for it. Loose the windows and wear a coat. I pick up my son from school in it. The kids say it’s sick.

Ps dealership called this afternoon (Friday) and leaf is being delivered on the 9th next Friday! Splendid stuff - thanks for uploading! I've seen a few Twizy videos; I've read their PDF brochures... But I've yet to see a single Twizy in my travels. They just don't sell in Britain, because... Well, you know why they don't sell. They're a gadget for bored rich people - a lifestyle fidget-spinner - like those stupid £400 smart-watches with pulse monitors and calorie counters and multiple reminders and timers for when to stop steam-cooking that revolting Morrissey-friendly vegan fungus-burger, and a calendar that lets you pretend that you're far too busy to turn up for your Pilates class at the gym, the membership fee for which is more money than most people will see in a year.
The Twizy is a bad joke. Nobody's laughing with you, Renault; they're laughing AT you. The battery-hire situation is disastrous for anybody hoping to get into EV ownership on a budget. And the overall tech seems to have been left behind by current trends (hey, that was supposed to be an EV joke). And the basic price is 5x too high. And it needs to be weatherproofed. Oh, what's the point. Shut up, Elli - nobody cares. The Twizy is just one more brilliant alternative to life with a crummy old bicycle (mine's worth about £30) that fails to tick any boxes unless you're rich and want a cute toy to play with. Exactly like the Swiss-German-teutonic TWIKE, which is even more ludicrous, because it costs tens of thousands of quid. The latest TWIKE (it's basically a chic, pedal-assist EV, don't forget) will cost from £30,000 up to £50,000 for the top of the range. Sure, it's weatherproof, but that price is INSANE. You could buy a tiny terraced house round where I live for fifty grand. A whole bloody HOUSE. You could buy a 3-litre 160 mph sports car for £50,000, and they want that for a sodding recumbent BIKE with a plastic bag on its head?
Surely some big manufacturer can do better than that! Nissan? Honda? BMW? VW? Peugeot? Ford? People like me - that is, POOR PEOPLE - want and need an EV that costs no more than £1,000. A glorified golf cart? Fine! I don't care! Sell me one for a grand, like they do in China! Screw crash-safety ratings - I ride a bike, so my bum's a crumple zone and my boobs are my airbags. One thousand ruddy pounds sterling, please, and with no battery-hire con tacked onto it. Surely...
But no. All the big names - even cash-rich Tesla - HATE the idea of mass-produced, cheap EVs. Tesla only wants wealthy people in its cars to avoid harming the brand image by having scumbags and plebs enjoying their lovely posh shiny toys. It's a caste and class issue. And every other manufacturer is holding back on making a cuddly cheap pushbike alternative because sales of their own stupidly expnsive EV cars (£40,000+) would suffer. Boo hoo.
Oh, and they HATE the idea of EVs in general because each one they sell kicks a bloody great big hole in their petrol and diesel car sales figures.
Sigh. Perhaps something really cheap will be developed in China. (They won't be allowed to export them without adding £15,000 to the price, of course... Unfair competition? Well don't whine about it, O-thou mighty westen manufacturers - COMPETE!)
Chinese firms don't give a toss about selling smaller numbers of their big cars to rich buggers as long as they can also sell millions of ultra-cheap crappy ones to the impoverished masses as well.
Meanwhile... I'm still pedalling my bike through another lovely British summer. I'm wrapped up well because I'm in the north of England and it's stormy and it's hailing. Yuk.
Bring on the Chinese golf buggies, I say.
If you buy a house with a lease hold you are as stupid as buying a Twizy with a battery lease people should do community car share insurance share really mess up insurance and rental companies but really help street conjestion parking in fact if communities got together in planning structures just think what could be achieved instead of electing a Twatt to make a mess for you for soft money.

I couldn't do anything, I live WAY out in the middle of nowhere. The closest city to where I live is over 10 miles away. Hell, the nearest gas station is over 6 miles away. (I know it's not necessary with this car but I'm just using it as a point of reference) and there are no ev charging stations anywhere near where I live. It's at least 50 miles to the closest one.
Just get an f150. Basically same thing.
I use my Twizy since more than 6 years and about 75000km 365 days a year without windows. It's OK.
Give it proper doors and a roof box that can hold groceries. That would make for a fun and useful town car

In France, Belgium, and other countries, the Twizy is not a car. She is in an other category of vehicle. She is cheaper for assurances, taxes, can be used at 14-16y old, safer than a bicycle. It's great.
Ha thank you for doing this video, I had a Twizy as my only car for over two years and this just brought back loads of good memories :). It was great fun to own and everyone that I drove past had something to say about it. I lived near the centre of Manchester and all my driving was within the Greater Manchester urban area so it fit my needs perfectly. I only gave it up because my circumstances changed and it wasn't as practical for me anymore. I've got a Zoe these days and while it's a lot more practical it'll never be as much fun as the Twizy.
Twizy - maybe the most fun vehicle i've ever driven. Feels like a run-away amusement ride :)

when I lost my classic car business due to a major stroke , I considered buying a twizzy, luckily a Nissan ENV200 van came up for not much more money and its been fantastic....however I still hanker after one of these weird machines.....just as a play thing not for carrying tyres or washing the wife....lol

My similar vehicle doen't leak. I've driven it in heavy down pours and no leaks.

Not enough room for supplies. I have a Tacoma and a GMC 3/4 ton long bed 4x4 for pulling and hauling. Looks like a death trap. Looks cool though.

I use one of these to carry my golf clubs. The only difference is that it seats two.
Its a great fun car but i wouldn`t have to drive it daily in the winter. As a second or third car it is simply perfect. Its actually more a motorbike with 4 wheels and a roof…
It's a excellent car, but they should simple upgrade it. The doors without windows is really confusing. Why would someone create 2 doors really 1 door with windows could be so much better. Many people are also with their privacy stuffs and also when they are doing shopping, they can't carry with them along. And about the heating for the cold and even for cooling they could attach some solar system on the roof.

Of course, we miss the entire point of the Twizy as we do not live in France, and are not 14 years old. That's the target market at basic level. Our lousy laws force kids to ride bicycles in preference to the Twizy, tell me that's safer?!

The Twizy only needs 2 things: waterproofing and a decent suspension. Come on Renault. If Citroen could build a car in 1935 that wouldn't break eggs when driven over a ploughed field, surely 83 years of automotive progress would allow you to make a car that handles speed bumps. Come to think of it, PSA, you're missing a big opportunity. We've had an electric new Mini, Fiat 500E and an electric Beetle. Where is the new electric new 2CV the world is crying out for?

Its really difficult to convey just how much fun a Twizy is. We had one on holiday on an off road 30 mile excursion and really miss it. Thanks for this. Look forward to your 200 mile twizy trip, cant be any harder than James 400 odd mile trip surely. (James and Kate youtube channel) Thanks.
The Twizzy is the equivalent of a camping holiday in Britain; cheap wet and underwhelming.

Why do the door don't close all the why ?
Its not regarded as a car, if it doesn't seal up then Renault can get away with it being classed as a quadricycle so it can be driven by a 16 year old and probably bypasses a lot of the crash testing requirements
