Are you searching for an aggressive yet solid chess opening that can catch your opponent off guard and lead to exciting, tactical battles on the board? Look no further! Today, we're delving into the thrilling world of the Belgrade Gambit, a lesser-known gem that can leave your opponent struggling to find the right moves.
The Belgrade Gambit unfolds after the standard opening moves 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6. Instead of opting for the more conventional 3.Bc4, which is a popular choice among chess enthusiasts, White chooses 3.Nc3. At first glance, it might seem like just another developing move, but it sets the stage for some remarkable traps.
After 3...Nf6, White plays 4.d4, opening up the center and attacking Black's pawn on e5. Black usually captures the pawn with 4...exd4, but instead of recapturing immediately, White surprises with 5.Nd5, known as the Belgrade Gambit.

Bd4?.... actually.. no... Qe8. then when black queen takes back, fork with the knight
Puzzle solution Qxe8, Qxe8, Nf6 forking Queen and King. He then can choose the bishop or the knight to compensate material.

Good one GM Smirnov ill try it.
Wow love your style!
5:17 I think it is Nf6+ ,if they take with the queen, you take the rook. If they play Kf7, you take the rook with the knight then they take back with the queen and you can trade queens and also trade bishops and you’ll get a queen, rook, bishop for queen, knight, bishop so +2. If they hide the king on g8, you can just take the rook with the knight and they take your bishop so still +2 but there is probably a better variation that leads to something better
+2 is still completely winning
Very instructive, thank you for the help. Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas!
The puzzle solution is very simple. The move was Nf6+ to fork a rook and a king. Black queen couldn't defend a f6 square and a rook at the same time so he will eventually lose materials.
What if he takes the rook first then check with nf6?
Thx
I think the problem is it leaves the bishop on h6 hanging.
@@gilfranco3969 I checked with stockfish, Qxe8 and Nf6+ are equally good, both about +2
@@RajivBhanBishop is pinned... It can't move
My comment was in response to the question above: What if Qxe8 then Nf6+? No queen to pin the bishop on f8.
7:00 thats top level of Stockfish analysis. The computer also likes to block the board with funny trades pins etc.
When you say things like "& then there's just too many threats..." I'd really like it if you explained those threats as sometimes I can't see them! Lol
Me too it's so confusing
5:15 sack the queen and fork the king and the queen with nxf6+
I love four knights, so I'll definitely be using this! Thanks teacher Igor!
Good luck!
I am curious, in other videos you have mentioned the bishop opening. Would you mind expanding in detail on the bishop opening? I really enjoy your videos and wish I could remember all you say. Another question I have is, how can I increase my move accuracy? Thank you for your videos +.
In response to the puzzle at 5:18 - I think white should go Nf6! with a fork on the rook on e8. If the king moves, then Nxe8, and the black queen cannot take back because e8 is defended by the white queen. If black for whatever reason decided to go with Qxf6, the rook on e8 is no longer defended and white can follow with Qxe8. Black may try to trap the white queen with Qe7, Qe6 or Qe5, but this is simply a queen trade and white is up a rook for a knight. I'm thinking white can add pressure on the e file with one of its rooks, and also Bc4 to check or control the diagonal (depending on Black's first move), so although being 2 points up is not huge, positionally white is very strong.
ty
I play the Belgrade and have many wins with 1.Nf6+. If 1. ... Qxf6 then 2.Qxe8 wins the exchange and leaves Black in a difficult defensive position with Bc4+ on the horizon. If 1. ... Kh8 then 2.Qxe8 Qxe8 3.Nxe8 Bxh6 4.Nxc7 with an exchange advantage. And if 1. ... Kf7 then 2.Qxe8+ Qxe8 3.Nxe8 Kxe8 4.Rfe1+ winning material.
This makes clear the point Chess is a game of forward.
I am was a gaint noob before I know this channel 😊😊😊

When you said A rare checkmate by Bishop it feels so nice to me
belgrade gambit happening in real life atm with the situation in kosovo
1.QxR QxQ, 2.Nf6+ picking up the Q
I'd try QxR and after QxQ White knight forks Q and King.
for the puzzle doesnt knight to f6 solve the current issue? he is in check so he can not take your queen and if his queen moves he is instantly in trouble, if he doesnt take with his queen and moves his king he is boxing himself into the corner
5:17 Nf6+ Qxf6 Qxe8
The puzzle solution is that you sacrifice the queen for the rook and then you fork the king and queen with the knight on f6.
Nf6+ checks the king, black probably needs to capture it with the queen, leaving the rook undefended.
I learn every single move of opening from you Mr. Igor
Hope I can reach 2.000 to challenge you
Igor: "and then you completely dominate the game". Me: "29 blunders are waiting to be made"
I prefer Halloween gambit
if Be8, then
NF6+, QxF6
QxF8
Can knight just move g6 ? 3:14
Nf6, and if Q:f6, white takes rook and is defending the bishop h6. White wins material and has a very strong position
Ne7,Qxe7,bc3,Kh8,Qd4
Qf4
3. ... Bc5 is obviously problematic because of the centre fork trick of course, but I thought that Black's main alternative to 3. ... Nf6 was 3. ... Bb4.
Hi, igor wanted to talk about bc5. I could not find it. You? Let me please know where.
@@ingogoldbeck2886 He talks about it here: th-cam.com/video/6SLL-9vz1LE/w-d-xo.html
Basically it's a trick that can be used in several openings, by White in this case but by Black in some others. In this case, where Black plays 3. ... Bc5, White uses a simple tactic (4. Nxe5 Nxe5 5. d4 forking the two minor pieces) with a solid game after 5. ... Be6, and a definitely superior game with pretty much any other move by Black.
@@mikekeenan8450 i got it, thank you so much for your quick answer. I always use this fort in that situation as black. Just didnt copy that i can use it mirrored as white too because i avoid playing italian stuff as white normally. :)
@@ingogoldbeck2886 No problem, glad to help.
Kf6 quen takes knight, QXe8, black quen try to do trade off, bring rook to e file
bg5
That's great Igor, you are a master. This is Raj
What happens if he checks with qeeun
nf6+ Qxf6 Qxe7 is my answer to the puzzle. Your opponent can't take your bishop because theirs is pinned.
Belgrade right?
Kf6+
You didn’t cover black’s bishop to c5.
The first animation is so funny idk why
5:10 - Nf6+
Queen take rook then night fork king and queen
that gambit is halloween gambit first
6. Exb5 Bb4+ 😢
Nf6+, Qxf6, Qxe8
This is why alpha0 only plays queen side openings.
Just play the Caro-kann and you're safe
Tal attack, 2 knights variation, d3 Caro-kann: 🍷🗿
Wow! Thanks a lot Igor! I am a Italien Player and the Belgrade gambit suits me perfect as a variation! 😊👍♟
