Hi Elin. I'm restoring a gt6 and haven't gotten to the engine yet, but was wondering your take on porting and polishing the head. It would be really awesome to see you do this and share your expertise. Thanks again for all the great videos!

I wonder how many people in the UK are horrified that hardened valve seats are not fitted ?

I gave up being horrified by BMC when I was commuting car sharing with an engineer who had worked for them in QA. No wonder this shower have been pushing up daisies for these last 30-odd years. What a crowd of cowboys! Not the engineers and craftsmen, the bean counters who ran that firm were basically just crooks. They case hardened the crankshaft oil seal areas so thin as to guarantee shaft seal failure after just 80,000 miles. Their logic, our custommers are fleet operations who sell at 50,000 miles and we do not even want the old vehicles to stay on the road at all. So everybody learned to buy Japanese, but still the daft politicals kept bailing them out. Never in the history of global commerce did a company more deserve to die.

Yeah they didn’t fit LED lights or airbags either....

I would suggest that you get the crank balanced together with the harmonic balancer, flywheel & clutch cover !🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Nice to reuse the crank from the original car in the rebuild.
Do you already have a rebuilt TR6 gearbox that would fit the Java Green car ?

Silicon bronze valve guides for unleaded fuel a must.

Please explain why you would need Bronze valve guides when using unleaded fuel ?

@@tjm3900 These heads were designed to run on regular(leaded) fuel. The original valves ,guides, and seats were lubricated/cooled by the lead in the regular gas. This resulted in lots of burned up exaust valves and warn out guides when run on unleaded gas.

@@craigevanson8063 Well, while I have seen VSR on BMC 'A' series engines that had been driven hard, I have not seen it on Triumph SC or '6' engines, even with over 100k unleaded miles on them. However, I have seen severa valve seat inserts that had fallen out AND Bronze valve guides that have not had sufficient clearance (they need more than stock) and have 'hung up' an exhaust valve :-(
Sorry, but I have come to the conclusion (over may years working with these engines) that there is little grounds for being pro-active in guarding against the evil Unleaded gas. If it ain't broke, don't fix it ! Save your money for other things.
