Hi. Wonderful to see you show all the kit for your day hike. I watch videos by different people on what they bring. You are very enthusiastic about the activity and your passion shows, excellent. You are among the people who make a positive difference. Appreciated.
The Lifesystem looks to be the same as AMK Heatsheets. They are very good. I like that you prepare to help others. As an old Eagle Scout and Scout Master, I still do the same thing. I suggest that you look at a stainless steel cup, with folding handles, that will slip onto the bottom of your water bottle. This will allow you to build a fire and heat up a pint of water. If you also carry a couple of oatmeal packets and a spoon you can eat if you get stuck. A book of matches in a sealed bag and a tealight candle will give you a lot more options too. A very good video. Our kits evolve with time and must be reevaluated every so often. Good Luck, Rick
Great suggestions Rick thanks for sharing. I have a cup/pot from my PCT days that would work perfectly-I never thought of taking that on a day hike before!
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Because you hike alone, you really should have a good emergency kit incase you have a bad fall. Sometimes it will take time for help to arrive so you want to be comfortable. I've seen cases where the dispatcher sent the rescue to the wrong town. That caused a several hour delay. Good Luck, Rick
I have all sorts of kit in my day-sack regardless of whether I need it or not. We do the same and collect other peoples rubbish & always promote the ‘leave no trace’ message on our videos. In regards to your day-sack, I have the ‘Osprey Stratos 26’ which is brilliant & very roomy.
Thanks for the tips and for listing the items you showed in the video. It was fun to learn about the 2 shelter items you mentioned. Once we used / stepped into 2 kitchen trash bags to cross a flooded road. It kept our socks and shoes dry.
Excellent video Mary, well done. Very comprehensive kit. A couple things I carry in addition. One is a compact mirror my girlfriend gave me. It is small, lightweight, and folds to protect the mirror. I have used it several times to get a gnat or something out of my eye with a q-tip. Which I also carry 6 . You can reflect light in your eye to see better as well. Another item is a small tube of superglue. For repairs or even closing a wound or a hangnail. Best!
Who knew you could cram all those necessities (and niceties) in such a small pack, very impressed am I. Thanks for reminding us also that even a trivial thing like a shoelace can be a godsend and could maybe have other uses as well. Love all your videos, keep them coming please. 🙏🏻😊
Thanks, Mary. I'm impressed with the amount of survival gear you carry. And I'm also impressed you took some of it out of the bag, fluffed it out, and demonstrated how it works. I imagine it wasn't easy to get it back in the bag :).
I really enjoy your videos, a great list of kit, the only thing I would add is a tick card or tweezers to the first aid kit. At times when stopping for lunch I have found ticks on my legs and the sooner you can remove them the better.
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Hi Mary Please don't get confused between tweezers and tick tweezers, the picture you showed was of ordinary tweezers. You need tick tweezers to remove ticks safely.
Fabulous video sweetheart. I can’t believe how much stuff you cram into that bag, but I suppose I carry the important stuff when we go out hiking together ie snacks, biscuits and sandwiches 🤣🤣😘
I was one of those who asked, a few items I have never have thought of. I have a Lowe Alpine lots of features but never thought of my sit map on the outside Thanks
Thanks for making this guude. I plan on getting up Ben Lomond this summer with my wife and two young boys. At the moment we are working up the hills around glasgow trying to build stamina and my wife is doubtful but ill need to show her this video and it should help us with a decent plan
Thanks! Spare shoelace! I never thought of that ... If you don't mind a top-loading pack, I've found the Deuter Futura series to carry very comfortably. I think there's a ladies' option with 28 litres available.
Nice video. Instead of a spare shoelace, just carry some tarred bankline and some duct tape. Keep the lighter in a waterproof bag. Carry Benadryl and don't forget a whistle.
And I thought my med kit was over the top 😊 Thanks Mary now I feel much better !!🤣😅lol Nice shelter. For that same reason I carry A small tarp !!! Smart grl 🤠
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I just ordered the Osprey Kyte 36 women's backpack, and the 2l reservoir (the reservoir was free with purchase of a technical backpack on the osprey website) for my day hikes. Am slowly building up the kit I need. ☺️
@@MarysOutdoorAdventures Have added a few of the items you show to my wishlist. ☺️ Also, just in case you find this helpful, I have been using a website called Food Circle Supermarket to get my energy bars. They're not an out of date product site (although sometimes they have shorter dates) but they get surplus stock and sell it at reduced prices. I have bought cases of Clif bars from them. ☺️
blimey Tinker has out baden-powell'd Baden Powell! life sytems should get you as an ambassador for their stuff.. you're b-roll of using it was soo cute! but yeah i always carry the thermal bag & like you say it's not always for me.. well that's what i imagine and more for some unfortunate scenario i come across. great bag explosion
Wow a lot of items fit in that pack! I know you mentioned looking into a 30L pack. I have a 25L Red fox racerwire day pack that is the most comfortable and functional day pack I've owned so I wanted to share a link for it. Also a Gregory Jade 33 link below. us.redfoxoutdoor.com/products/racer-25-wire The RedFox racerwire 25L carries weight well and is very comfortable with an arch mesh to keep back dry but it might be a better summer pack? It has a back flap pocket and an outer zip pocket. The outer zip pocket looks small in the image but in actuality it goes deep down. The side pockets are stretchy. The pack has an inner zip pocket and water bladder pocket. I bought it because I needed a day pack that could comfortably carry 5L of water for So. CA day hiking plus food and some gear. I believe Red Fox has big discounts in November(Black Friday sale). The most I would carry in it would be 17 lbs. I don't recommend the 20L racerwire. I tried other RedFox larger daypacks but they were not as comfortable/functional. If I had to buy a larger day pack for winter hiking I'd try a Gregory Jade 33. I did test out a Jade 38 and 53 at REI for backpacking and loved them both except Jade 38 side pockets not easy access as Jade 53. I kept the Jade 53 backpack (it has a dialed in, easy to adjust torso adjuster panel and free float suspension system). It is the best fitting and most comfortable backpack I ever owned. A bag full of useful stuff. My day bag is much simpler as I walk more locally - a stove and some food the key components.
Absolutely robbyboyo, I also go with a lot less if I am staying close to home or hiking on easy trails.
Several things I hadn't thought of. Thank you. Blessings
Thank you very much Betty 😊
I have the Gregory Jade 22 I think and it is very comfortable and seems more than big enough for everything.
2 questions! 1) How would you change into the new capilene layer while out in the cold? 2) What 30L pack did you end up with?
