I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but Siri popping up when you press the indicator cancel button is meant to happen; although I would have thought you'd be able to turn that function off in a menu somewhere, it's for older coms systems that can't evoke Siri by saying "Hey Siri" or by pressing the "Mic" or "Phone" button on the coms unit itself.
As it happens a recent firmware update has fixed the problem - I no longer get the siri graphic popping up when I now cancel my indicators- its so much better....
That's a first - of all the TMF videos I watch, my 3 year old just ran over and said "Daddy, they just called you kids", and had me replay the intro over and over 😁

I use Carpuride W7, it does most of what this does - at less than half the price! Has a small sun shade and fits to the BMW cradle with a mount. No drop outs, clear bright screen, no reflections.
It doesn’t work with the wheel, or have autobrightness, but I’m not fussed about that (since the touch screen).
Importantly, the Carpuride is easy to take on/off when you stop so won’t get pinched…
the carpuride bmw mount sticks out too much from the nav prep system. on the RS its outrageous and disturbs the riding. also, the carpuride takes 2 min to fully shutdown after you remove the key from ignition which is stupid. anyone in that timeframe can press the on button and mess with it, including text messages, phone calls and even worse: navigation.
@@TiagoVieira odd. I have the W7 on my naked R1250R and zero issues - certainly no effect on riding… (I do 20K miles a year).
Yes, the screen stays on for 2 minutes after power is switched off - but you really don’t want to be leaving a sat nav on an unattended bike anyway, as someone will just rip it off for ebay…
Also not sure how someone could mess with your texts or nav when you’ve left it, as it’s paired with your phone… unless you also left your phone on the bike…
@@aps-pictures9335 if you add risers for the handlebar, the gps prep comes more close to the fuel tank. After you’ve used other navigation on motorcycles that are completely not intrusive you can’t really consider the Chinese CarPlay (that at the moment are refusing me the 30day return if not satisfied policy).
Regarding the texts: anyone in that 2 min timeframe can access sms codes for homebanking, no? Just pair a bt headset and hear out the code. Regarding navigation: anyone can very quickly find out where you live, where you store your motorcycle at night - see where my story is going? If you are like me that doesnt like having the iPhone on the pocket while riding, go for a quick coffee stop and leave the phone either in the top case or in a backpack that’s probably on a side case, the phone will be reachable for the CarPlay and it will all work within proximity.
@@aps-pictures9335 don’t know why my comment got deleted. But in Europe we receive sms with codes to confirm bank transactions. In the 2 min timeframe anyone has time to bind a new Bluetooth headset and hear out the code.
Anyone in the 2 min timeframe can go to maps and see where you have your house marked at.. see where I’m going with this ?

I have the 'Lite' version on my R nineT which also has front and rear dashcams. It's an amazing device and works faultlessly. Works on Android Auto too!
I have a cheaper one with front and rear camera on my 1250gs. (I’ve bought it because of a broken iPhone camera. Even with a shock absorbing mounting system.) it’s in its 2nd year now. And I ride 40 clicks a year, all year and weather around. I’ve mounted it at the same spot where the original nav goes. I listen to radio, navigation, calls and teams meetings. The one I have has its own control unit mounted to the bar. I am very happy with it. The rear cam is great for parking in tight spots or as a split screen during heavy traffic.
Looks like a bit of a game changer for BMW owners.
I’ve used Apple CarPlay on Honda bikes and had issues, used it in Ford cars and it’s been great.
If I had a BMW I’d buy this unit 👍🏼
Same GS as mine, love the analogue clocks over the tft and my satnav is mostly used for additional engine data over the map screen, just the best machine ever.

Another thing to consider with these uints is that they are not stand-alone Sat Navs. They get the maps and position from your phone. This means you need to have a data signal or the maps for where you are downloaded on your phone.
There are apps that work offline with pre-downloaded maps

Fyi, there is a standalone satnav version coming.
And on long rides, you need a way to keep your phone charged.
Great to see that there's a good option if/when our 10 year old BMW Nav Vs fail. The only thing (in my opinion) is that the screen appears to be quite reflective. That may be OK in the UK but in countries where the sun actually shines could be a problem. I dare say that a matt screen protector would fix that problem. Well done!
I ordered one just after watching your video a few weeks ago. I also used the promo code and it worked. I didn't think it was going to work being in the US but it did. Saved me $50! I have a 2023 BMW 1250 GSA. I still have my BMW Nav 5 that I kept from my RT I traded in and then bought the BMW ride cradle. The ride cradle is ok but I'm not a big fan of the Ride connected App. Plus if I use that I can't get all the functions using my Cardo the way I'd like. This Chigee seems like the solution I've been waiting for! I'll always keep my Nav 5 as a back up if I go to non coverage areas like in the mountains of NC. Make sure you do a firmware upgrade when you get it too - then I think you'll be very pleased with it (I am with mine)....
@@TheMissendenFlyer All is great. Very happy with the Chigee! Just returned from a 1400 mile trip. The Chigee worked flawlessly! Also when going into the mountains with no cell service, I found you can download google maps for an area and you still have navigation function.
I’ve done the Kickstarter for this unit and can’t wait for it. I have a 2017 GS Triple Black and went through 4 of the Nav 6 with the touch screen of death.
I currently run the Carpuride unit but the plug and play has tickled my fancy.

Just bought exactly same bike yesterday 2013 with 20k... Was only thinking of something like that for my phone etc....as always a great vid TMF..... champion bike
I put one on my Triumph Rally Pro and am currently using it to tour through Europe. So far it has been great, clear screen, good connection and really useful to have all your apps etc in one place. For those that say about distraction being an issue well I use Siri for most things and that works great too. Really good bit of kit and I think Andy’s review nails it. Also, worth noting, I paid for mine so this an opinion from someone who invested in the kit.

A lot of very grumpy folk on here who have obviously never tried to navigate their way through a busy unfamiliar city… or tried to avoid the multitude of cameras trying to attack you these days. Great review and very useful compared to the cumbersome BMW offerings. Thanks Andy… I use bikes for work and mac is essential. Been wondering about this for a while.

First impressions, and it looks like a decent bit of equipment. The fact its basically a plug in and go unit also makes it an interesting option.
and if you don't have a BMW with the GPS cradle (the majority of riders) there's a swag of Chinese options becoming available at a fraction of the price (a good chance they are made in the same factories). I just installed a 5inch, front/rear cameras, TPMS Carplay/Amdroid Auto - for a fraction of the price. It was delivered for the equivalent of 102 euros. Quality seems great so far - and worth a gamble at that price.

It is easy to change to Miles Per Hour, go to settings and you can change different settings including the speedometer reading.
Great to see you out on the GS - love the bike - makes me think they have over engineered the 1300 gs now chasing numbers. Love the analogue dials
Hey Andy great video as always, as one that prefers OEM looks and integration I don’t understand why BMW or Garmin for that matter can’t embrace Androidauto/Carplay options. My reservation with this unit is I’m not familiar with the company. I’d love a long term review on quality and durability. Keep up the great content!
I saw this on another channel but thought it was a gimmick, so thanks for the second opinion. Really useful. The one thing I've always wanted on the bike is DAB radio. And the only way to get that meant lots of wiring and stuff which I wasn't keen on so this my just do the trick. No issues with the NavV, I just needed more functionality. So thank for the review as I've just bought one.

I got one in April and now a second unit for my other bike. Quality is gr8 apple like packaging and build. Technology is there to use and not abuse embrace or turn off abs, traction control, fuel injection, satnav throw phones away . I will be selling my Ducati oem TPMS at £300 and not transferable. So this is actually good value - there are cheaper but chigee supports update and the BSD with rear camera switching is a huge safety feature.
That looks like a game changer for the GS Andy. I’ve looked at other models and while they are half the price of the Chigee, I can’t be done with the wiring. Being able to use the whizz wheel on the bike is useful too. Great review

Morning, I like @reinmansmith have a Carpuride unit. I don't have a BMW but have been using the unit on Android Auto for about 4 months. It mounts via a 1 inch Ram mount and is powered from my USB, which comes on with the ignition. I went for the W702 (7 inch screen from Amazon) and have found that the only quirk with it is it seems to like the headset to connect after it has made connection with the phone. I bought a RAM security knob and unless leaving it somewhere particularly sus or for an extended time, I leave it on the bike.
The unit is quite large and the Ram is hard attached to the heatsink on the rear, making it bulky to carry but seems robust and has proved waterproof so far.

I too have the carpuride - absoloutly wonderful. I have the 702 on the T120 and it works a dream. Appleplay just works and the music from my phone can be easily controlled to my headset in the helmet. I also use it in the car.
@user-io2et5bv2sthat’s a really good question. So, my Cardo allows the sharing of music from my iPhone to the pillion. So, as the carpuride is simply an emulation of the phone, then by selecting the share function of Cardo, I can then simply use the carpuride to select the music that is being shared from the Cardo app. Answer is yes but it’s not the carpuride that shares but Cardo. Does that make sense 😂
how does the battery on your phone last whilst connected to the Carpuride?
@@stuartmoore8002 The battery appears to be ok. To be honest, if on a long ride, I put the phone in the top box and cable the phone to one of the portable power bank batteries - of which the powerbank lasts about 4 days when on the road. Hope this helps 👍
I haven’t seen a bad review of these units, (which is why I suggested previously that you tested one) and, as you say, they are 2/3rds of the price of the BMW units so great value. I have recently bought a Carpuride CarPlay unit to fit onto my R100RS (no ‘whizz wheel’ back in 1983!) which I used on my recent tour of the Alps down to the Stelvio pass and back and it worked great. Just the same it is simple to connect, just works and appears to be well made. In terms of customer service they have been fantastic. On my return I contacted them to say that, while I loved the unit I was disappointed that the touch screen didn’t work well when I had my gloves on. They apologised and said they have worked on improving that and they sent me a newer updated model within a couple of weeks! They are also now doing one that integrates with the BMW whizz wheel and simply plugs into the BMW mount, so maybe you’ll need to test that and see how it compares to the Chigee as I believe it is cheaper to buy 🤔 Glad to see the sun has come out in Great Missenden and the rain has moved to Paris!!

I find all this stuff very distracting. Do I want to listen to music or take phone calls whilst riding. Nope. May be I’m a Luddite.
@@peterdane9138 the main benefit is the Sat Nav giving spoken instructions via your helmet which when you’re on tour is a great help 😊

I guess the big advantage for those of us who have a more modern BMW (mine’s a 2019 RS) over using an old phone is the integration with the whizz wheel etc so you don’t have to keep reaching forward to touch the screen.
Exactly....my GS is a 2013 and it has the whiz wheel!

@@markmottershead646 You select that on your bike, just like you do, if you had a Nav VI in that cradle. Press and hold the Menu button (Up or Down) on the left handle bar to move between TFT and Nav (in this case, with the Chigee mounted, Nav = AIO-5 Play For BMW).

I have the camera version on my 1000sx, it is a really well thought out and put together bit of kit, it is even better on the BMW as it really integrates into the bike. The best thing is you will be able to move it onto that new GSA you are so keen on. A bike thing are the UK importers as an alternative to self import.

I have one of these on order. A hangup I have is that I actually like the BMW Connected App for navigation, mostly because of the winding road options. I need to find a replacement for that. Thanks for the review.

Looking at getting something similar for my CF Moto 800MT. The bike has its own Nav but they’ll never be as good as google maps. Fun fact: the top spec 800MT, the explorer, comes as standard with car play! Cheers for the video 👍🏻

Interesting, although for me with fatigue issues after an illness, probably won't be required. I can ride for 2 hours on a good day, avoid built up areas and have built up a large array of good routes in my 43 years of riding...just me and my bike, no distractions - perfect 😎

I fitted the AIO5 lite on my Moto Guzzi, it allows better navigation than a standard sat nav, plus on mine I have front and rear cameras with blind spot detection. I think it is the best addition for motorcycles.
These are great devices, I have the Carpuride W702 on my Honda, I like the 7" display, especially with CarPlay given the icons can be a bit small when in map view so gives your finger a bit more area to press while underway. They also have a BMW version that clicks right in.
Another tip for this - within your phone settings you can reorder the apps so the ones you use most (Waze etc) will appear on the first screen and the lesser used ones can be down the bottom, on pages two or three.
Where is that in settings? It’s a CarPlay specific ordering is it??

Yes, I know you liked the system Dave, but this makes it even better by being literally plug and play with no installation issues. So much the better that it integrates with the Wiz wheel too!

Hi Andy, I’ve gone for the aaoocci model promoted by Mr Vida, I’ve gone for the basic no camera based unit that costs about £80.00.
It does require wiring in, it’s getting wired next week by Honda and I’ll let you know how it performs and installation cost.
I have Apple CarPlay in the car, in can be distracting, so beware of tapping away at the screen while riding !
I bought an Aoocee with the cameras and the video is rubbish, it's only 1080n and not the 1080p they advertise it as, that means the pixel count is less than half that of true 1080p.
Also worth noting the price you quoted does not include customs and duty. All chigees bought direct come from China and will incur customs and duty charges
Since you are the expert, can a pillion listen to the sat nav instructions with a cardo system ? when played through the Chigee .
@@49googiethey only work with one phone connected to it. I use my phone connected to the device, but sound from my phone connected direct to Cardo. This way the sound works best . I have these on the bike and in my truck. Though I only ride Triumphs so had to use a bracket to connect it to the handle bars.
Or they can be bought from you guys I understand and avoid duty???

Helpful & interesting vid. It's always been a mystery to me why motorcycle sat-nav has always lagged so far behind car versions in terms of just being built-in. Especially for companies like BMW & Suzuki who have been putting them in their cars for years.
Thanks for posting. Very promising. My Navigator V is long on the tooth and Apple Car Play would be a definite upgrade. Looking forward how it works in the long term.
So far so good, only real annoyance is that Siri goes into standby when you press the indicator button and although it doesn’t actually matter, it does annoy me slightly!

I have a 2019 goldwing and what you want is a wireless dongle connected to the bike . Carplay connects much easier that way
I have tried that, and I found that more unreliable than hardwiring the phone in. Seems my ability to use CarPlay on my Goldwing will always evade me! Such a shame as it would be a really useful feature if it were reliable.

It looks great and I have CarPlay it in my car. My only worry would be the indicator cancel button bringing up Siri. I press the cancel button all the time as I'm constantly worried about leaving the indicator on.This would also be good with not having the phone mounted as I sometimes forget to take it off the bike. In regards to mounting your phone, I use Quadlock with the vibration mount and my iPhone is fine and is mounted next to my Nav VI. Without the vibration plate I destroyed my last camera on my phone but not any more.
I slowed the video speed to 1/4 cause I knew I was gonna play heck trying to pause that disclaimer. Glad I did it was funny. First time I’ve noticed it…lol

I prefer on my R1250gsa the 3D AM bracket and the Garmin XT, which gives me Satellite rather than relying on the phone signal, plus the 3D AM bracket and the Garmin XT were combined at under £400.
This is definitely the kind of thing I want! Easy, just like my phone! X x
By coincidence, I read a review on this unit a couple of weeks ago. It was good to see your review and from my perspective it’s an impressive unit for a great price. I don’t know for certain, but I’m guessing you can fix the Siri issue through settings. I hope it gives you some good reliability.
Yes, it transpires you can disable Siri in settings and that fixes the problem.

I have a Chigee Lite on my GSA. Bought and installed about two weeks before they launched this BMW version. Mine works great and have been pretty reliable over the last 3000kms of all weather conditions. I too hold concerns over the future of a start up company, but even Apple Mac was new once!

Totally agree with comments about to much to see , I’d rather drive and ride the bike than be distracted by the screen etc , to many electronics on bikes nowadays, cruise control , quick shifters etc to go wrong expensively. Plus don’t ask me about cruise control , never needed it 53 years of touring, sometimes over 500 miles in a day . Of course some people don’t know anything different because there to young 😂🤣🤣😊👍

I use one of these devices in Australia, I use OsmAnd for maps, its subscription but a far more powerful mapping software for backroad stuff/off road stuff and is all offline so don't need to worry about data.

Apple CarPlay in the car is great as the factory sat navigation is out of date on my bike I do have a separate sat navigation unit so all covered on the bike how ever anything that speeds up my wife connecting her phone sat navigation and cardio unit is a bonus
I might get this on my tuono v4 as I’m so wide the mirrors are pretty useless.

Great review, you've answered 1 of 2 questions I had about this device.
The 1st one being about the connection between the headset, the chigee, and phone, glad to know I only need to connect my phone to my cardo. The 2nd one, you didn't mention abou phone's battery life, does it drains the phone's battery, let's say, on a 5 hour journey? Does it use the gps from the phone or the built in one? (that's what usually drains the battery) I’ve always prefered dedicated sat navs rather than using my iphone and a quadlock, because the screen on all the time, and the gps on all the time obligates me the charge all the time. Regards.
“To see what the display is like when I’m routing”. 😂 “lean angle”… etc. To save a) the cost of wasting money and b) keep your phone safe, buy the quad lock with the anti vibrations dock. The only reason I’d consider one of these (as it just means another device to carry when parked) would be if my phone wasn’t dust and water resistant.
You do as you wish of course - these types of gadget mean we have choices!

I paid something like £600 for my Nav 6 a couple of years ago which has been replaced once under warranty. Shame this wasn’t around at the time for consideration. As you rightly point out be interesting to see how these perform over time.
The carpuride w702 is an alternative if you prefer a bigger screen😂 Tom Tom go works nice to.
Great review, thanks! I have a F750GS with the BMW Connected ride cradle. Is this worth the extra investment? A big plus is that you no longer need to plug your phone in the cradle. Can you still use the BMW app, or does this remove any need to do that? Cheerio and lots of safe miles!
Morning Andy. Nice to see you out on the GS. Very interesting, I hate my Wizz wheel it does nothing except obstruct my indicator thumb. And the holder is just a black vis obstruction. The Nav VI has such a terrible rep I never bought one. Does the chigee have its own internal GPS? Or does it only rely on phone. When I am out on the HWY here I often am out of cell range and my phone GPS.
Good question - I suspect it relies on the phone.....
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes, because the Chigee is simply a mirroring device. It mirrors what's on your phone.
From what I read, this is not a SatNav device. It relies on a cell network for mapping. Seems adventure riding takes you off cell networks so google maps is useless. I like to have the satellite support in the remote areas. It's a lot of money to essentially have a cell phone repeater.

As my GS doesn’t have a standard TFT, I don’t have that issue! I know when I have ridden newer bikes with the TFT there is a way to swap between the screens, but off the top of my head, I can’t remember how you do it but it does involve holding in one of the handle bar buttons, if my memory serves correctly. It really isn’t an issue.
On the 2024 1300 GS you long press the menu up button
Sure you can Turn Siri off in the settings. Would solve that issue with the indicators. 👍🏻

I fitted one to my RT with dash cam and blind spot detection and it’s brilliant, however I have fitted Aoocici to my Vstrom recommended by Richy Vedas. Build quality is not as good as the Chigee but it works just as well and it cost £120
But this BMW specific chigee doesn't require all the wiring hassle you had to fit the one with cams etc - this is literally plug in and go - no install required!
Very interesting product.
Google maps is aware of traffic delays/roadworks and can often route away from them. So, I would say better than the BMW Garmin Nav6.
I find the speedo and tachometer display on my non TFT GS pretty useless. This device looks a massive improvement.

When my r1200gsa went into limp mode I rode my k5 Gsxr 1000 instead, that bike reminded me of why I ride, a screaming inline 4 with a yoshimura trc with baffle removed, haven’t ridden the gsa since, so what’s my point 🤔
@@julianmorris9951 I get that, totally. Have a fabulous modern 1250gsa but also own and occasionally ride "classic bikes" from the 90s too and if I am honest.... gulp..... I enjoy the old bikes even more in a strange way !! And truthfully, I have absolutely no real concern they will suddenly fail or cause a problem.... whereas the expensive new BMW, I feel I wouldnt trust out of warranty!
If you ever did mention this then I missed it in the video. But it's pretty important to remember that while CarPlay is nice and all, if your favourite navigation app, music app or whatever does not have a CarPlay or Android Auto integration then you can't use it. Just as an example let's take Riser navigation app from Cardo, it does not have CarPlay integration so you can't use it with a device like this. And while there are several apps that do work, i think this is something that is important to keep in mind in case you really really love some app and decide to get this thing, and then you can't use it, then that would be a bit of a downer wouldn't it. And this is all up to the developer of the app to fix, it's not a limitation in CarPlay or Android Auto.

Personally i use no gadgets. Biking is to me about freedom. If i want to go somewhere i look at a map before the journey then use those big metal things on the side of the road.Signs. If theres a diversion, great lets explore!
We didnt have these gadgets 40 years ago and everything was fine.
But I'm different and if it's good for you cheaper and easier then all credit to it.
