    Nikon provides a manual for new features and functions coming with Firmware 3.0 to the Nikon Z9. You can download the manual here:
    download.nikonimglib.com/arch...
    And here is a link to my 35 Tips & Tricks for the Nikon Z9:

    Note: The new feature "Color Temperature Info in Basic Shooting Info" is redundantly mentioned again under "Other New Features & Functions in Firmware 3.0", apologies for that. Without it the video would have been five seconds shorter :)

    Thank you for this! I did the update but couldn't enable many of the new features & didn't know why, but following along, I realized it was OTHER SETTINGS** that stopped it. Now I know what to change in order to access these features 🤙🏾!
    **much like using a OCF or hot-shoe flash...if you're in silent mode, you disable the flash completely. Gotta turn off that setting to allow the flash options.
    Idk why Nikon makes it like that! Most event/wedding photogs WANT silent mode + using a on-body flash 🙃

    Well done. Thank you. As it turns out, I had missed a few things....actually more than a few things. I have made some "improvements" to my custom setup selections and playback. Oddly, I changed some of my preferences. e.g. rotating the images and info. As long as both image and info rotate together, I prefer rotation.

    Thanks for the video. I was having trouble turning on Hi Res Zoom. It was greyed out and couldn’t figure out why. I changed 265 10bit to 8bit and that worked.

    • @mathphotographer
      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes indeed, Randy. You need to use a compatible codec and resolution and fps, and then it works :)

  • @Photographersforyou

    Thanks for the video, I have seen this a few times but have not had a chance to try the hi-res zoom feature til now. I have a question regarding the Hi-Res zoom, it does not seem to react to slow or high speed and currently (-5 to +5 on new firmware) when it is on the zoom ring fn ? It does react to the speed control when it is set to FN1 and FN2 buttons - Is this normal??

    Thank you very much for this really great and understandable explained changes.
    I miss on the Z9 still two things:
    - I cannot choose 1/2 step for ISO Values (I can only select 1 and 1/3) which is awkward ("B1")
    - There is a black-out bellow 1/8s (This is annoying for handhold longer exposure as an example 1/4)
    (The Settings Memory is still far from perfect. I miss a Backup and Restore for each of the 4 Banks...)

    • @jeffwolford3108
      @jeffwolford3108 ปีที่แล้ว

      Have you looked at Setup Menu -> Save/load menu settings... it saves all the banks and all the other settings under Playback, Setup and Networking.

    Thanks - I find the V3.0 update is great for all -- if FOLK take the time to learn how it works and adapt to AND do not just complain.
    Biggest +Ves - TimeCode Jamming using BlueOne, High-Res video Zoom, and High-Freq flickr solutions for vid.
    The AF was great AND now has got better. No actual bugs, folk just need to get used to how it has changed. This is particularly clear for 3-D tracking which now needs a subject to be under the focus point when it is engaged. I like the RED focus box option.
    ANYONE - updating their Z9 - should SAVE their settings first, then update LEAVING THE CAMERA ALONE while it does this, then load back their settings. The camera will apply the default settings to the 4/5 new menu items other than this every other setting I made is perfectly replicated in both my Z9.
    YES -- there are more updates I want, we want and and and. BUT right now I prefer Nikon's R&D team get ready for their next camera body launches. AND no I do not expect any ground breaking firmware updates for the Z6/Z7 or Z6II/Z7II AND none were promised by Nikon EVER.

      Nice comment, many thanks. I guess we are all waiting for a Nikon Z camera with kind of similar features as the Nikon Z9 but in a smaller camera body :)

    Very well done, thanks for this video! Any issues with 3D tracking? It was reported (erratic behaviour) in some FB Z9 groups. I hesitate to update yet...

      I did shoot the Z9 with Firmware 3.0 today with the new Nikkor 400mm f/4.5 in a wild animal park close to Zurich, no issues with 3D tracking so far. Many thanks for the kind feedback.

    Can the "enable DX image sizes" sizes be assigned to one on the custom buttons?
    Can the High Resolution Zoom function be used with 4K60p?

  • @andyvan5692
    @andyvan5692 ปีที่แล้ว

    one way of thinking about the quick and full format options is to think of the card storage as a library, the quick format removes just the books, the full format, is like a library renovation, the shelving and lights, etc on the inside are gone too!!

    Is there a way to delete entire series during payback review? On occasion i have hit the shutter button accidentally while camera is set for high fps. How do yo easily delete all images in this burst?

  • @johnvaleanbaily246
    @johnvaleanbaily246 ปีที่แล้ว

    One question. Using Full Format Card, does that delete protected files or are they still safe ? Thank you. Enjoy your videos.

    • @dirkgits
      @dirkgits ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally a Full Format wipes everything out on the card or Hd or SSD ....

    Very clear and informative. However I would like the ability to turn off the flashing indication when using auto iso and the iso differs from the base user iso set. I find the iso blinking distracting and unecessary. Does no one use auto iso? Does no one else find flashing lights distracting when trying to compose an image? Seems to have been a feature of Nikon cameras since the year dot and it is something I would like to see the blinking indicator with an option of a steady light not flashing more or less all the time.

    Perfect Demo - Bravo! Just a bit too fast for an old NIKON-man reaching 76 soon... Actually your speed does not even fit to a real "Berner"!
    Anyway - great help - thank you very much!
    Q: Do you have a video on how YOU did setup your Z9 and how one can program the Fn1-4 buttons? I would like to create a setting (F1...F4) for street-, sports-, landscapes- and portrait-photography.

      @mathphotographer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Rolf, 76y is a great age to spend a lot of time with your Nikon camera :) You will find some info on how to set-up function buttons here: th-cam.com/video/IswNcmO8dpA/w-d-xo.html But for what you want to achieve, I would go for custom configurations. For this I do not yet have posted a video but will consider. Also see here for more tips & tricks on how to use your Nikon Z9: th-cam.com/video/576l3ZxmMEE/w-d-xo.html
