Small-town guy Longfellow Deeds (SANDLER) goes to the big city to collect a $40 billion inheritance from a long lost uncle. Living in a palatial mansion with the services of an unusual personal valet (JOHN TURTURRO) isn't too bad. Things get even better when he meets a beautiful school nurse (WINONA RYDER). But money changes everything, and things aren't what they seem - his sweetie is actually a journalist feeding reports of his outrageous behavior to the press! Now, it's up to Deeds to straighten everybody out - with a few right hooks and lots of common sense.
Forgot I was watching an internet clip for a moment, I was fully invested and ready to watch the rest of the movie.

Me too. I mean I didn't meet him, but I grew up in New Milford. I was excited to hear about it, but this was one of his worst movies at the time.

This movie was peak 2000s comedy an absolute classic, it's unfortunate how comedy writing progressed from 2015 onwards but here we are.
i agree, and its not a nostalgia or boomer thing. Comedy today steps on egg shells while also forcing agendas down our throats.

I think this is where Adam Sandler was meant to live he it's like he doesn't know how legendary he is because he's so humble
I remember when this first came out. I was in the theater with my cousin and grandmother. When he read his greeting card, in the scene shown here, my grandmother rolled her eyes, but my cousin and I (10-12 years old) were cracking up. It never gets old!
Fight me, but Erick Avari's (Cecil) delivery of "He's dead!" at 2:32 is the best part of this scene. Dude's a legend.

I'm a total fan of Sandlers, every movies has been brilliant, Blended absolutely give me sire ribs from laughing.
This is one my favorite Sandler movies, parts of it was filmed in my home town, but all adams friends are here. Just a great comedy
I was an Adam Sandler fan as a kid (Happy Gilmore/The Water boy/The Wedding Singer era) as a teenager (Mr Deeds/Punch Drunk Love era) still an A.S fan as a 32 year old in 2022 (Uncut Gems era)

yeah I kinda grew up with all those films aswell. funny because rewatching this scene as an adult that actually hears his English a lot better, i never noticed the line at 5:30 "we just need a little bit of time to dot the T's and cross the i's." lol. watching this now makes me smile.

I remember as a kid me, my mom, and sister sneaking into this movie in the theater because my two brothers were still watching this film when the movie we were watching was over. Dang that was 21 years ago.
"What's that got to do with delivering pizzas?" is not only down to Earth, but also smart. Not having something to keep you busy will ruin you.
I love little towns like theses. Everyone knows each other and all nice.

This was filmed in New Milford, CT. Kent borders New Milford. Peter Gallagher at the time, and maybe still does have a place in Kent. I wonder if he just commuted to work.

For anyone out there that happens to be named Longfellow and never knew their parents I’d suggest looking into that immediately. I don’t think there’s one broke person named Longfellow.
I hope us folks could be as content as Deeds one day, where even being one of the richest people on the planet wouldn't be such a huge deal and we'd just go on about our lives. ^^ Those are goals right there. He didn't need to be rich. He was already wealthy from the friendship he had with the community. ^^ Billions are nice, but it doesn't seem so much, when you're already content with what you already have. ^^
