Derby station has changed a lot. And East Midlands Railway are to replace the Class 43 Mk3 HSTs, Class 180 Adelantes and Class 222 Meridians as they opted for the Class 810 Aurora AT300 IETs. That is to enter service sometime next year. So fingers crossed for that. ☺️

Tip. Find split ticket options through someone like Trainline, Trainsplit, or Trainpal then book that split ticket option with a TOC. You then avoid any booking fees and save money
Trainline only offers split tickets via mobile app, the website doesn't show ticket split. That said, Derby to London, most split ticket options are usually Derby to Leicester and then Leicester to London. You don't tend to save much however every penny helps. I saved £1 on a return trip, £51 advance return in StD. split ticket gave it as £50. 1st class doesn't seem to offer any split ticket options as usually the advance fares from Derby are majority of times similar price to the Leicester to London prices so that split tickets dont tend to show up as you don't save money.

Correction, Derby is served by 2 Northern services per day. The 1Y99 20.04 Leeds to Nottingham and the 1Y36 22.15 Nottingham to Sheffield. Both operated by 195s

Not bad trains all in all, a nice atmosphere and good lighting but the interiors are definitely looking a little tired these days and not a fan of the leather at all. My major problem though is that I live in Sheffield and regularly find that it's cheaper to travel to Doncaster and use LNER from there, and I much prefer Kings Cross to St Pancras. Personally I'm not a fan of St Pancras but I'm aware in probably in a minority there.
I find them to be really nice, much better than the azumas/IETs. Upon looking online if you book for mid march, it's £93! Sheffield to London with EMR. Whereas if you go via Doncaster it's around £50! Absolute madness.
The interior seems to be the same before EMR took over the franchise and the seats in standard class look as if they haven't been cleaned since when it was run by East Midland Trains as there are stains on most of the seats. It's not good value for money IMO.
Yeah they've not been refurbished since they were built, I think they're still pretty good 18 years on. I paid just £32 so I think it was worth it in all honesty
@@danielstripreports They have been refurbished. When the units were built, they were operated by midland mainline and the 222/1 were Hull Train. When all the units were transferred to EMT in 2007, they were all refurbished inside and outside in 2009. The exterior was recently done so they all are in the EMR interim livery. Some interiors has been done, for example all of the toilets are now in the EMR purple and grey colours. Some of the standard seats have been done up, you can tell the ones that were done as they lost the stagecoach orange and blue dots. If they only have red they have been done up.
