Interlagos used to be about 8km long when it hosted the Brazilian grand prix in the 1970s and early 80s. I think there should be a minimum lap length by lap time in f1 but I think the maximum lap length, in terms of distance, should be higher. That's just my personal opinion though.

The reason for Lewis' hand placement at race starts is actually in order to not accidentally downshift during the start, as told by one of his mechanics. It has nothing to do with the clutch, since that is at the bottom on the rear of the wheel.

In the 1958 Portuguese grand prix, Sir Stirling Moss lapped Mike Hawthorn, he proceeded to unlap himself and Moss crossed the line to win. On his parade lap he noticed Hawthorn had spun and he sat and watched his attempts to make the car unstuck. They both signalled the stewards to not help in fear of disqualification and Hawthorn managed to cross the line for P2. Reports emerged that he had started his car driving backwards and he was in danger of a disqualification. Moss stepped up and told officials that was not the case, his report making them let Hawthorn keep his second place and the fastest lap point, for a lap he had set earlier. Two rounds later, Moss would lose the championship to Hawthorn, by one point.

1973 Canadian Grand Prix was the first race a Safety Car was deployed in a race. It wasn't a great success at first, the official time keepers lost track of the position of the cars on track and it was left to the teams to hand in their own time charts to decide the result. Even though officially Peter Revson won the race, with Emerson Fittipaldi second and Jackie Oliver third, no one really knows who actually finished where, since they initially went to give the race winning prize to the unfancied Howden Ganley who drove for Frank Williams, yes THAT Frank Williams, and he flatly refused to go up to the podium as he knew he hadn't actually won

    1. Manor Racing car livery is almost identical (use the same color palette) to a defunct bus line operating in the city of Jakarta called "Metromini". Many Indonesian fans actually joked that the Manor's overall car pace is the same as the Metromini Bus. The driver of Metromini are also notorious on the streets of Jakarta for driving recklessly and dangerous, some doesn't even have a driver's license.
    2. Esteban Ocon's F1 debut is replacing Rio Haryanto for Manor Racing. Haryanto is currently the only Indonesian driver to have made it into F1. Sean Gelael doesn't count because he's only testing for Torro Rosso and didn't officially enter the F1 Driver's Championship. While Haryanto is retired from racing and taking care of his family business, Gelael is still racing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (finish 2nd in 2021) and participating in a local Rally championship.
    3. According to his former teammate (and former friend lol), Nico Rosberg, most of the time, Lewis Hamilton would not let his hand go off the steering wheel in the event of a crash. This is contrary to the safety regulations which require all drivers to let go of the steering wheel in the event of a collision and place both arms on the chest forming an "X" to protect their chest and avoid the steering wheel snapping and dislocating or breaking the driver's wrist or arm.

Welcome to my list of useless F1 facts, some of them are well-known, others, not so much.
1: Brawn GP is the only team in F1's history that has a 100% record of Drivers' and Constructors' Championships.
2: Jack Brabham is the only driver in F1's history to win the Drivers' Championship with a car that he built himself.
3: When he was a rookie with the Marussia F1 Team back in 2013, Max Chilton finished every single race of the season, rendering him the only rookie to do so. His best race finish result of the season was 14th at the Monaco Grand Prix.
4: Jules Bianchi was very close to starting his F1 career in 2013 with Force India after losing his Marussia seat to Luis Razia. That, however, changed very quickly when Adrian Sutil took the Force India seat and Razia's financial backing fell through.
5: The Caterham F1 Team wasn't able to attend the US and the Brazilian Grands Prix in 2014 because of financial issues. The team was sent to administration as a result of that.
6: Daniel Ricciardo scored only two podiums over the course of the 2018 season, both of which were race victories. (China and Monaco)
7: The driver that competed in the least amount of full time F1 seasons is Ralph Firman. He only raced in F1 in 2003 with the Jordan team. His best race finish result was 8th at the Spanish Grand Prix, which earned him one point.
8: The slowest team to compete in F1 was Life. They only competed in 1990 and out of the sixteen races that season, they didn't even pre-qualify in fourteen of them and withdrew from the final two events. They were three minutes off the pole position time in Imola.
9: The longest racetrack to host a Formula One Grand Prix is Pescara, a track with the length of 25.8 kilometres. The sole race at Pescara took place in 1957.
10: Despite being very famous and successful in the World Rally Championship scene, Subaru also tried their luck in the world of Formula One. In 1990, they supplied a 3.5 litre Flat-12 engine to a minnow Italian F1 team named Scuderia Coloni. After the eighth round at Silverstone, Subaru dumped Coloni since the car wasn't even able to pre-qualify in the hands of Bertrand Gachot and they were powered by a 3.5 litre Ford Cosworth DFR V8 engine for the remaining eight races.
11: The last time a Cosworth-powered F1 car competed in the sport was in 2013. (Marussia)

F1 driver numbers is kinda complicated. The numbers used to only go up to the number of cars on the grid, with drivers' numbers decided on the Constructors' championship position of the previous season, I believe, and who was the no. 1 driver in the team. For instance, Red Bull in their dominance seasons ran with Sebastian Vettel as 1 and Mark Webber as 2. Nowadays, driver numbers are completely up to the driver to decide, as their chosen number when they enter F1 equals their car number for their F1 career. You may know that Max Verstappen, however, is running with 1 this season when he previously held the number of 33. This is because the number one is reserved for the driver that wins the Drivers' championship. There have been 4 Defending Champions since the new driver number rule was introduced from 2014, with Vettel deciding to run with the no. 1 in 2014 having won the 2013 season (he now runs with 5). It is completely the choice of the defending champion to switch numbers, and Lewis Hamilton, who won 6 titles since the new number rule was introduced, chose never to change from 44 to 1. Nigel Mansell, who won the championship for Williams in 1992, retired from the sport after winning the championship. His teammate, Riccardo Patrese, who ended the championship in 2nd in 1992, left the team to go to Benetton. Normally, with the old number rule at the time the team would’ve been given the numbers 1 and 2, but because Mansell retired they got the numbers 0 and 2. Their two new drivers for 1993 were 3-time champion (at the time) Alain Prost and Damon Hill who came over from Brabham. Prost didn’t want number 0, which meant it was given to Hill, so for the first time in F1’s history someone drove with no. 0. Prost won the championship in '93 but retired from the sport, so again the number 0 would have to be used at Williams. 3-time champion Ayrton Senna became the new driver at Williams for '94, and the same situation from the yesteryear repeated. Senna didn't want zero, so it was given to Hill. As number rules changed over time, no other driver has ever raced with the no. 0 since.

Two drivers have won championships without a pole (Denny Hulme and Niki Lauda, Niki didn't even start on the front row for his 1984 title) Four drivers have won titles with no fastest laps and one of them (Emerson Fittipaldi) did it twice. In addition four drivers (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) have won the title without leading the most laps, the last being Kimi Raikkonen in 2007 - again I believe that is the case
Despite numerous point systems being used over the years, irrespective of which ever is used Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel are always the Top 3 drivers
The longest GP should really be the 1957 German GP which lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes. The 2011 Canadian GP if you stop the clock during the red flag stoppage only lasted 2 hours and 27 seconds

In 1956 the Scuderia ran a modified version of the two year old Lancia D50, with which Juan Manuel Fangio took the title.
After further development the car continued into 1957 as the Ferrari 801, with much less success.
