- I challenged 10 guitar TH-cam legends to improvise over the same backing track in the key of C. What I did not say was that there were some spicy things going on in the track... We're seeing how everyone approached playing a solo over the same set of chords!

Really liked his contribution.
After going through these a few times I was hearing what everyone else seems to be hearing. Chris Buck and Pete Thorn both have that special sauce in their playing. It's the dynamics and their ability to fluidly connect the notes like a singers voice. It's quite unbelievable. At this level all of these players are tremendous and I love to hear the ideas they all bring to the table.

The Pete, Thorne, and Chris Buck solos just had a little something to them that grabbed my ear… The last eight bars of both solos sounded different than everybody else’s… I don’t think it’s a coincidence that people are picking out those two particular tracks

I love Tim’s “cockpit” gear room. Just enough room for his guitar neck, every knob, button, fader literally an arms length away. It’s cool to see how different and unique every persons music space is.
Chris Buck's solo is just genius. Extremely complex yet natural and simple at the same time. Kudos.

Pete Thorn was the best for me, it really highlight the theme of the track for me personally and he made it quite exotic with the notes he choose to represent, the ending part was most spectacular and brings about the song completely.
I couldn’t agree more… Although Chris Bach solo had something spectacular about it… Pete ending is so sweet

Chris Buck's playing was mind-blowing: beautiful dynamics, finger-picked and that first phrase is not impossible to play but you could spend hours trying to make it sound as good.
I love how Chris Buck is just playing a new Yamaha into a Helix into a laptop and has some of the sweetest tones imaginable. Goes to show I should get back to working on my playing instead of lusting for expensive and rare gear all the time.
There is nothing wrong "of lusting for expensive and rare gear" - but sometimes you only have to USE it *LOL*
Agree, been saying this for years. You can get some great tones with not much sparkle.
That Yamaha with those PU's, plus that Helix and a MacBook...., yeah, that's some cheap ass stuff. 😄
@@mariodriessen9740 well the whole thing is it’s not the traditional stuff people think of for making good tones. Also compared to some vintage and high end gear, it is pretty cheap lol

But for someone who has to save all his money for months to be able to purchase a fairly normal, but good enough pedal, it feels a bit harsh to call all this stuff a cheap solution for a great sound. But I’m not at all surprised that you can get some great tones out of that, especially when you can play like Chris. There’s absolutely a lot of truth in what they always say that sound is in your fingers. 😊
Chris Buck always kills it. He knows how to make his solo sing in an emotional, dynamic way like no other! All the solos were great! Well done!!

I just discovered Chris Buck today. I then found this video full of amazing guitar players and chris buck was on it...your reaction is the same as mine...incredible! Chris bucks video explanation had no edits...he organizes his thoughts into speech like flawlessly...just like his playing...wtf? is he human?

He is not only a TH-camr putting up a show every week, but is also a touring musician.

Chris bucks vibrato tone and slide control is just astonishing.. his decision to ascend into the peak of the solo when we were hanging for the descent resolve was the reason I won’t show this video to my wife
I loved them all but I was starting to get bored with the Melody by the end. And then Chris started to play and blew my mind.

I've watched this a few times now, and still find Buck's playing amazing. The rest are phenomenal talents as well, including PAUL. I rewatched now like 100 times Chris Buck's rendition! It makes me want to learn to play the guitar like him, and to be able to have that Yamaha guitar also, it`s amazing! And the others, whom I also watch and follow, they are beatiful in their own way, but this solo, man,... that SOLO it is the natural theme or colors or dynamics to be played if it was released as a song to the masses!
All such talented musicians... Chris Buck is ridiculous...the man is incapable of playing a bad note...really enjoyed this!

For me it was Buck, Thorn and Larson as well. Each of them brought something unexpected but very musical to the track and had very good, very polished tone.

I especially loved your stab at Chris Buck's opening phrase. You totally hit the notes and then said, "I don't know, it just doesn't sound the same." An honest, spontaneous reveal about Chris that places you in good company. I so appreciate your collab offerings. I'm learning quite a lot, but, let me add, I don't know, it just doesn't sound the same. :)

He has that BB king thing going on with the ability to say a lot with one note, then he has the ability to say one thing with a lot of bends and chords. The guy is the most tasteful player I’ve ever heard.

@@olafnelsonduerksen9676 calling someone the greatest does not diminish the value of others. It merely sets rank :) As a guy who might be lucky to be in the top 50% of all guitar players (but probably in the bottom 25%), it doesn't hurt my feelings to know my inferiority to other players. It doesn't change the value of my playing at all. It just means you will probably never see my name on Billboard ;)
Chris buck not only left Paul Davids speechless, but when Paul tried to play it he LITERALLY THREW IN THE TOWEL and said “it just doesn’t sound the same.” I’m a guitarist and now I know why you are envious of him @Paul Davids. Absolutely beautiful playing
