Hardtails are harder to ride but also you get more skilled quickly. A good set up and smart rider will pretty much do most of it all for way less money and maintenance
I agree with this. I got into MTB in 2016 and my friends were all telling me to get FS ... I "only" had $1200 budgeted so opted for the HT. Same with my son, he started on a used 2012 HT, and now that we have FS bikes we're both so much better than the group we ride with. Especially at the bike park, we just know how to shift our body weight and get through tech so much cleaner. Like if you've ever been on a tech trail with a drop, you might be able to get away with just going straight and letting your suspension do the work, but on a HT you're going OTB. You're forced to learn how to shift you're body, which is all mountain biking really is.
each bike has its role for the specific discipline with advantages and disadvantages. whoever criticizes a bike because it is fixed, Ht or Fs has forgotten his passion and that is the saddest thing.
I’ve often said that an aggressive (65 degree HTA, 140 mm fork, sort poppy read end) is the most versatile bike you can be. Not specialized at anything, but won’t feel out of place at a bike park, XC or enduro race, skatepark, etc.
Now do one on the full suspension riders who insist you need a $7,000 full suspension no matter how many times you tell them you’re only riding basic trails with your young kids.
Going from a dual suspension trail bike to a hard tail I definitely prefer the hard tail on flowy trails because it's way more responsive but as soon as it gets chunky I miss the rear shock. I can still ride everything I used to ride on the dual suspension I just lost some speed in the chunk and gained speed in the flowy stuff so it's a trade off.
i mean u can go fast on full suspention, but if u crash going fast on some of those trails...ur facked mate, no suspension will help u in that moment....so save ur money take ur time dont rush have fun and ride a hardtail
You can do most stuff on a hardtail. HOWEVER, the REAL benefit of fs is much more traction. Better for technical climbing, better for braking, and better for maintaining composure over crazy stuff. Comfort? What's comfort?

Yeah I don’t have $5000 to spend on a nice one. Shit my motorcycle with a whole ass motor was like $1600. I can’t justify paying more for something that I have to power with my legs. Hard tail for me.
In all seriousness tho, a full suspension is never going to be able to give you the same paddling efficiency as a hardtail. 😅 Thos Full Suspension do a great job on big bumps tho.
On the FS trail bike I had I was always reaching down to flip the lockout on the rear shock and the fork too. Now I don't lock out anything all my power goes to the rear. My commencal meta HT with oval chainring and 2.6 tires is all I need.

Honestly, if I could buy a quality full rigid, I would. I grew up BMXing and then had a series of Klein full rigid MTBs. Nowadays I have a Cannondale Habit 1 which is comfy but... I would still like a full rigid.
@Riding With Josh and Wendy the last one I had, my Klein Attitude, had a head angle of close to 90°, and chainstays that only just squeezed in the 26" wheel.
