    Good stuff ! An old timer from Alaska (not current, but it's home). Had a couple boats, along with friends who had more boats and we did a lot of crazy fishing, but never from a kayak. Alaskan's are good for honest ingenuity (or die). Gotta love it. Big kudos. Might even make it to your camp one day. :)

    Nice video. But how are you guys detaching the line from the reel at variable points? Adding line and removing shots as reeled in?

    What do you use for bait? Also can most prawns be caught using a shrimp pot? Over here in Australia using pots for prawns are not herd of. Too hard to use a cast net from a yak though

    I see the technique but how would you attach the line to the reel when pulling it up? Do you tie the braided line to the line on your reel? What knot would you use?

  • @garychiang2568
    @garychiang2568 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    But how would you feel in all that line if there is a barrel swivel at the end? Do they do a Braid to braid knot while on the water? Something doesn’t jive but I would really like to learn how to do this.

      This was so many years ago that I am not 100% but as I recall he just had a Rod with large enough guides to wind on the swivels

    that is so hardcore my first thought is that the water is so deep near shore because it's colder up there & less erosion from hot weather. Awesome!

      jason kulesza
      The water in Southeast Alaska is deep because a glacier cut through and dug out fjords... most of which are below the water lines and not visible, some are also above the water lines and visible, like Misty Fjords.

    How do you avoid kids from stealing your traps

    • @Rick_Sanchez_C137_
      @Rick_Sanchez_C137_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He lives in a very secluded, off grid location where there are few kids, fewer which would risk the ass whooping their parents would give them if caught stealing....
      That said, lots of people in Alaska lose crab & shrimp traps to current. Use an anchor to keep it from drifting (or drifting far)and a larger buoy so if it does drift over a ledge, the buoy is big enough to stay afloat and not be drug under and lost forever to the briny deep....

  • @getoffyourbassandletsfish7651

    Damn kids always steal my traps.

      Get Off Your Bass And Lets Fish
      Anchor your lines and use bigger buoys, the currents are so bad in Alaska that traps are usually lost due to traps being drug along and going too deep for the size buoy being used.
