Guys this is not easy at all. I really never seen Kathakali so closely before, look at that eyebrows, hand movements that expressions. Think twice before criticize it, god save this cultural wealth of india
Onam is a harvest festival of Kerala, an state located in south. This art is called Kathakali, mostly played by men. Its one of the difficult dance forms in India.
See no need to feel bad about Politicians. Sometimes you have a wish to do better for people being on the Position but you need to play politics to reach that position and be consistent in that position. Public service is best but games are required to reach and stay there.
For those art critics getting all genius here: a real Kathakali (not the Kerala tourism one, the real ones performed in temples) lasts up to ten hours over two to three days and no moves or plots are repeated at all in the course. Let that sink in. Can you geniuses do all this for 20 minutes let alone 20 hours?😂
Kathakali is the traditional dance form from Kerala in India. A dancer to perform kathakali like this, requires years of dedicated practice. It's not only eyebrows, all the facial muscles are put to emote and convey the feelings alongwith hand gestures and body movements. The sophistication and technical aspects are beyond discussion here. The art has been preserved and evolved fighting various demons including the cultural assault on India by all its invaders. Big salute to the gurus and art loving community .
You have no understanding of this dance form, so don't comment. This is one of the most complex dance form to learn and takes years (>10) to learn and many more to perfect.
I am taking back by the negative coments made by some here, people need to expand thier minds and realise waht this all means and the preperation and how old this form of storytelling goes back, this is awsum and great work and i only wish taht some day i can visit this country and be able to sit in a theater and be able to wach somthing like this be potraid infront of me this is awsum a great work. if you enjoy things like this im always greatful if youd add me as a friend
I'm perfectly fine with the fact that people can find it disturbing n they can happily leave. However those ignorant twat should stop ridiculing it n realise that the world doesn't revolves around their puny perspectives.
I have many reasons why i put India as the first thing on my bucket list if i can travel to another country. First is holi festival, second is the ancient history places, and the third is this.
"Kathakali" actually called 'Total Theatre'. years practice and total dedication needed for perfection you must study hand gusture to understand story following

Just happened to view your query by chance. There is no rule in Kathakali that only men are allowed to perform. Imagine a time long back in India and Kerala where performances occur during whole night, the concept of patriarchy etc. Women at that time were not equipped say socially to take up this challenging routine (10 yrs of learning). But now there are many women who take this up. There is even an all female Kathakali Troupe in a place called Thrippunithura near Cochin in Central Kerala
@tonynaso there are wonderful kathakali performers like Kottakkal Sivaraman, whom you will can never recognise as a man while performing, you can read more about him on wikipedia
One minute Kathakali dance expression equals to my expression of a lifetime! Amazing!!!

Played by men because of the circumstances of ancient times. Now women are playing as well
