Daily MTB Rider well on friday i was riding over snow and my front wheel got under the snow and i fell off and landed with all my wheight on my left arm with a bad angle. It still hurtes today on monday
Tips: use middle foot position for more stable pedalling & landing, get catalyst pedals, it really makes a difference on stuff like this. Safety: wear pads. but if you want to continue crashing like this a protection jacket would be needed. you were defenitly too tired, don't overdo it.
Idk I ride a hard tail and its definitely more comfortable and fun to jump a full suspension, but I can get higher on my own hard tail. Edit: I still love looking at the evil it’s such a cool bike
I think you will get higher on a hard tail because you are not losing energy through the suspension. but suspension will give you a smother and safer landing. I just got my first full suspension bike and im finding strange to manual and jump. something ill get use to I feel.
This made me realize that I need to go out every day and do like 40 bunny hops, and then I'll finally get that technique down. I think it's easy to trick yourself into thinking that you're practicing more than you really are
Josh, this was so helpful man, it was like mythbusters for MTB lol Joseph is going to Bellingham in a few months too keep me posted on that, would love to join!
I'm only at the first setup and 28 inches and I'm tired for you You should do full suspension after 48 hrs rest. You could barely stand up when trying to take off towards the end...lower back fatigue haha. Very impressive though on all set ups.
I had a buddy in the 80's that could bunny hop a PK Ripper 3 feet up a stair case or on to a picnic table, I was always jealous I could never get that height
Nice work, man! Kudos for a job well done and an interesting approach to this challenge. It was really cool of you to recommend Eric. I'm already a subscriber of his channel, and he deserves a lot of recognition for his perseverance and skill!
For years i bunny hopped like this before I learned one simple trick. Please don’t interpret this as hating on anyone just want to help out. I’m seeing you pull back on the bars like a manual to initiate the hop and that is indeed the way to get the most power and Height. But if you add Some pre-load to the front it will make the jump more consistent. Before doing anything else crouch down bending your elbows getting your chest as close to the bars as possible then spring up like you’re doing a push-up where you’re going to do a clap before landing back on your hands. When your elbow straighten out you’re just bringing the bars along with you while simultaneously drawling the back wheel and pedals underneath the front wheel using your hips you have to find a balance and basically do the same using your knees to spring the back wheel up And let the rear end come up with you just like the front. A good way to learn this is to not do anything with your legs and simply try to get both wheels off the ground using your arms for a while It won’t look like much but it will definitely give you consistency once you put it both together.
I have tried this before on my Scott genius vs Norco torrent and the full suspension makes everything feel delayed it was not down to him being fatigued great video by the way
I was wondering if someone would catch that! It was not sealant Nate, it was dirt. I had a load of dry dirt on my bike from my last ride because my hose was frozen and I couldn't wash it!
Rigid is easier than nonrigid. The reason the fork locked feels harder is because you're supposed to push your weight back with your legs and you're using your arms first. When you have the spring open, you give your legs more time to "catch up". It'll teach you to put more power down faster and keep your arms from wearing out as fast if you practice locked out
Brother i am planning to buy btwin rockrider 540 how is it? and I am not a professional but usually I used to ride round 30kms a day. Sometimes in mountains. And I am confused between rockrider540 and rockrider 520 because of its brake which is better hydrolic brake or mechanical brake plz help me out I am looking good suspension and easy to maintain please guide me what to buy...
Hey, I realize this is for test purposes and i really liked the video, but for all the people who want to hop higher, having your suspention squishy but with alot of rebound will help the most.👌
how is this a valid test when the more you bunny hop the more tired you are? The later tests you're way more tired then the first bike so your later jumps are all going to be worse. Different bikes different days?
I know this is an old video, so I'm not sure of an answer. But, are you practicing over a dog agility jump? I'm asking because my wife's friend competes with her dog and I swear the two look similar. Hey, and thanks for the video tip! I can see the effort you put in--esp with a hardtail--not easy!
i'm very much a noob, but i feel like what you are used to is what will jump the best for you. like, say you have a history in dirt jumping with a hard tail, your first time bunny hopping with a slopestyle bike- even if the weight and geometry is exactly the same- you wont be able to jump as high just because you're not used to the rear suspesnion. and inversely, i think if you have only ridden a slopestyle bike for the last 5 years and suddenly get on your old dirt jumper, you're going to take a while before you can bunny hop it as well as your slope style bike. but that's just a noob's oppinion on the matter
You are totally right that you get used to what you ride. But I will say, a light dirt jumper will always be easier to bunny hope than a long travel 29er. So you are totally right that it will take time, but sometimes that time frame is short 😃Thanks for writing!
oh absolutely, if you have a 40 pound downhill bike and get on a dirt jumper it might take you some time to get your peak bunny hop, but not nearly as long as if you have a dirt jumper and suddenly try to bunny hop a 40 pound downhill bike
Great video and great attempts, but after the first set with soft suspension, it looked like you was getting tired and failing for that reason cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Bruh aren't you going to break your forks by locking them while jumping? I can't ride without locking them cuz I need to fix them but.. I'm really really scared about breaking them totally by hopping with them locked. Is that safe so I can jump with no issues or should I just take it easy like I did till now?
Daily MTB Rider those tires limit are between 35-65 psi... so you are riding way below mininum.. would that also affect the bunny hop? Instead of a fully inflated wheel?
looks like your tire pressure is really low for riding on the street. actually it was the sound that made me take notice - when you compress the rear end you can hear the tire squishing into the ground
Disclaimer i havent watched the video, i gave my 16 year old daughter my hard tail ad my down hill bike, she has never bunny hopped a bike before (jumped a horse yes not a bike though) se could only pick the front wheel off the ground with the hardtail whereas she could get lift off with the full suspension
Thanks for watching guys - go check out Eric with "No Front Brakes" video here - th-cam.com/video/YLa6C4XJfgw/w-d-xo.html
Daily MTB Rider where did you buy the blue full suspension bike?
@@kontebonker5k700 bikes inline
omg, that crash with you going out of frame. I laughed, I'm sorry!
I laughed too.... way after the fact. My butt still hurts!
I’m sorry, I laugh too. I felt bad . But that crash, lol
I think you getting tired is more of an effect
Less weight with hard tail I def jump higher on a hard tail then full suspension
5:02 i wish you got it on film like where you landed
That could have ended badly, like faceplant, saddle forced into the back, good to see his ok, but this looked painful.
thats true
You and me both! Luckily I caught myself before flipping over my bike, but I killed my crouch and got a bad pedal strike!
Daily MTB Rider well on friday i was riding over snow and my front wheel got under the snow and i fell off and landed with all my wheight on my left arm with a bad angle. It still hurtes today on monday
Bummer man - hopefully you'll be ok!
5:03 when you ride a rigid bike for the first time
Tips:
use middle foot position for more stable pedalling & landing, get catalyst pedals, it really makes a difference on stuff like this.
Safety:
wear pads. but if you want to continue crashing like this a protection jacket would be needed.
you were defenitly too tired, don't overdo it.
As always, all great tips Johannes! I promise not to overdo it!
5:02 I've never laughed harder in my life! Glad you're alright... but man that was funny!
I had to put it in there, even thought I didn't laugh during it - I'm laughing a ton now though! 😂
Idk I ride a hard tail and its definitely more comfortable and fun to jump a full suspension, but I can get higher on my own hard tail.
Edit: I still love looking at the evil it’s such a cool bike
I hear you Ethan! Sometimes it's just what you're more comfortable on. I'm curious to see how high I can get on the Evil when I'm fresh!
I think you will get higher on a hard tail because you are not losing energy through the suspension. but suspension will give you a smother and safer landing. I just got my first full suspension bike and im finding strange to manual and jump. something ill get use to I feel.

So true on the tricking yourself Evan - get out there and go do it!
You should try it with the rebound at its fastest setting
I thought about that, part of me wanted to try it with just my normal settings so I can know out on the trails how high I can get!
@@DailyMTBRider yeh u'd get more height
Starting to become my favorite mtb youtuber. :)
You are way too kind MLO! I'll keep making videos as long as you guys like them!
Pretty informative video, but I laughed my ass off on that silly crash...sound efect made it 10 times funnier. Keep on the good work :)
I laughed too, but way after the fact 😂 During it I was hurting pretty bad!

I think you're right man! I'll rest up and get back at it!
This was hilarious! 🤘 Watching you tire yourself out 🤣... My bunny hop machine is a matchstick box 😎
My butt still hurts from that crash, totally worth it though! And you know even if you had a matchstick bunny hop machine, I want to see it!
Still have this video
...the best bike video i ever wstched
Thanks man, that means a ton!
Dude your vids are so high quality and you deserve so many more subs love your vids
Thanks so much AM Films! That means a ton man! The channel is growing like crazy and I owe it all to great people like you!
I had a buddy in the 80's that could bunny hop a PK Ripper 3 feet up a stair case or on to a picnic table, I was always jealous I could never get that height
the GT Aggressor pro is still the best made cheap mountain bike
try to quicken up your rebound all the way that will help both on front and rear shock
That would help a ton, but I wanted to do it with my normal suspension settings. Call me crazy!
Nice work, man! Kudos for a job well done and an interesting approach to this challenge.
It was really cool of you to recommend Eric. I'm already a subscriber of his channel, and he deserves a lot of recognition for his perseverance and skill!
It's the right thing to do to push Eric, he deserves way more subs than me! Thanks for watching RG!
So the moral of the story that I was looking for was you can bunny hop higher on a hardtail for some reason.
Yoooo. Finally back in an area with cell service. Thank you so much! Great video! The comparison is a fantastic idea!
Thanks Eric! It was a ton of fun to make!
This is awesome 👏 I have a feeling if you weren’t fatigued you could have hit the 24 on the evil .
Thanks Mario, and I think you're right. I'll have to give it a try when I'm fresh soon!

Awesome video - you worked hard for this one! I subbed "No Front Brakes". Cool guy.

I have tried this before on my Scott genius vs Norco torrent and the full suspension makes everything feel delayed it was not down to him being fatigued great video by the way
That delay is so true! Especially when you compare them so closely!
Hi there ,anyone know what is a kind bicycle in 8:28 m" the blue bicycle" please if anyone know tell me
Thanks
It's an Evil Wreckoning!
Nice video Josh. I was wondering if you went tubeless on the Tokul with the Kenda tires?
You bet I did rick! you should check out my tubeless torture test video on them!
was your fork really loked out on the hartail because i slomoed it and it looked like it compressed
It's not a true lockout - so it will blow through after a lot of force!
Was that sealant that flew off of your back tire when you did 24" on the tokul?
I was wondering if someone would catch that! It was not sealant Nate, it was dirt. I had a load of dry dirt on my bike from my last ride because my hose was frozen and I couldn't wash it!
Ok, that was my other thought! When do you think you will be posting the vid on trying to pop the tires with sealant?
That's a great question. I've been pretty busy so hopefully in the next month! And I need to weather to comply to get out on the trails too!
There are a lot of things you can to to help with the full suspension such as raising the pressure of the suspension
That's true Mason, I wanted to keep my bike how I normally ride, though, so I know what I can do on the trails.
Rigid is easier than nonrigid. The reason the fork locked feels harder is because you're supposed to push your weight back with your legs and you're using your arms first. When you have the spring open, you give your legs more time to "catch up". It'll teach you to put more power down faster and keep your arms from wearing out as fast if you practice locked out
Got ya. Yeah I was focusing on preloading with my arms, I've found that works well, but you've got some great tips!

I'm not familiar with those bikes Eden so you should ask someone else. Check with your local bike shop!
Thanks for not riding clipless @5.02 that was pretty good lol
No problem man!
What type of bike do u have the, green one. Looks amazing.
It's a Raleigh Tokul 3 - 2017 - and sadly they don't make them anymore!
Just converted my bike to a 1 by and it's soo much better but I got a 9 cassette on the rear so I need to upgrade to a 11
That's a great upgrade that makes a world of a difference!
Just discovered your channel and have to say you worked hard for this video, so props and keep up the great work.
Thanks for the props franksey! It was a ton of fun to make!
Awesome bunny hop style man!
There might be a Colorado version of this video soon...
Thanks and you know I'd love to see that! You'd soar on your DJ!
You should compaire diffrent wheel sizes
I would love to do that - I'll keep you posted me amigo!
Hey, I realize this is for test purposes and i really liked the video, but for all the people who want to hop higher, having your suspention squishy but with alot of rebound will help the most.👌
That's true, and more inflated tires. For me, it was all about testing with my normal bike setup!
What jeans are those ?
Seems to withstand biking well
Haha they do hold up well, they're just American eagle jeans - skin tight version 😂
Sweet video as always. Keep them coming. What tires and air pressures are you running?
Thanks JBW! I'm using the Kenda tires from my tubeless test at like 18psi, and minions on my wreckoning, 28 rear, 26 front. Just my typical setup!
Excellent attempts. I'm no pro but I think it was more technique that was hindering you.
I think you're right JF - it's always technique. That and timing. I know the more I practice that better I'll get!
I find those tires making a very satisfying noise
Me and you both my friend!
how is this a valid test when the more you bunny hop the more tired you are? The later tests you're way more tired then the first bike so your later jumps are all going to be worse. Different bikes different days?
You're totally right Greg. I plan to follow up by starting with my FS bike!
Daily MTB Rider Awesome! Will be looking forward to it.
I laughed when u flipped out of the frame. I had a friend do the same thing
Hardtails are so fun to ride. They can be a bear flying downhill when the ass kicks up, though
I can't wait till I have the money for my first FS, I freakin hate landing on a bmx or HT.
Hardtails aren't that bad, but FS's do make a big difference!
+Daily MTB Rider i know, but i already know what a ht feels like, i probably prefer bouncy so FS should work great.
How did you get the fork on that bike I tried looking everywhere for a fork for the tokul 2
On some full sus bikes if you have zero dampening and pump up the rear shock you can sort of load it up and blast off like a rocket
That's true - but I was looking to practice with my normal settings vs. changing them.
Great movie and idea for experiment. Thank you for sharing.
"I did so many things wrong... that hurt so bad" LOL
Haha story of my life man!
Would it help if your psi was higher?
Yes it would, but I wanted to keep my bike setup like I use it on the trails!
Daily MTB Rider #realworldconditons I feel you. Good video.
Awesome video👍
I watched the WTF moment over and over and still don't know what you did!!! LMAO!
You and me both Watty, all I know is that it hurt bad!
My guess is too much front brakes
That hard work man, you diserve a like. Also for the crash
Can you give me a Link of your hardtail
I can't because they don't sell them anymore. That's why I went to my diamondback
How much does the green bike cost? i am interesting in that type of bikes can you give any good suggestion?
I made a video for the very same questions - cheap hardtails - check it out!
Daily MTB Rider okey. Thanks!
Have you ever done canyon ridge trail?
Is that in Bellingham Jeff or somewhere else?
Daily MTB Rider just north of glacier. 43? Mile loop. Local bhamer here lmk if you ever wanna ride or need help with vids :) keep up the good work
I'd love to ride Jeff! Just shoot me a DM on instagram or e-mail me and we'll plan it out!
What is the brand of your hardtail+
It's a Raleigh Tokul 3, but they don't make them anymore!
Nice dude. Some good hopping there! 👌🏼
Thanks man! All my practice has paid off!

so Are Full Suspensions Easier to Bunny Hop Than A Hardtail?
I would say no - but that's me!
Not sure you could do 26" with clipless pedals. If so I'd like to see it. I hate clipless pedals. But your bunny hop is pretty high.
Not trying to be rude just sayin.
I'm curious about it too Matt! Not rude at all, and who knows maybe I'd fail with them!
cool 26..though,your knees are still bent when you pop up, and youre not tucking the bike in at the top
I can tuck a little more, my seat/tire were starting to get in the way though!
What's your opinion of the hussefelt stem
I personally love them, they are heavy and bulky, but I never have to worry about it breaking!
Daily MTB Rider cheers mate I'll have to go and pick one up
Great video and great attempts, but after the first set with soft suspension, it looked like you was getting tired and failing for that reason cheers Shane uk 🇬🇧
Can't do 23 in 2 attempts.... Does 24 in First Attempt
Story of my life man - I needs to get good!
Bruh aren't you going to break your forks by locking them while jumping? I can't ride without locking them cuz I need to fix them but.. I'm really really scared about breaking them totally by hopping with them locked. Is that safe so I can jump with no issues or should I just take it easy like I did till now?
Can i crank my pedals so i get my front wheel higher at the start of the bhop
Whats the model on this sick green hardtail
which pedals are you using?
On the Raleigh, Kona Wah Wah II's, on the Evil Raceface Chesters.
How is it possible that you could bunny hop with jeans?
They don't get in the way too much for me, I just always mess around in jeans anyway!
5:02 When Josh wished he had No Front Brakes
Just curious, how high could you bunnyhop on a BMX? Would be a cool video.
15 km riding today. froze to death
I'm sorry man, that's such a bummer!
I done 17 miles a few weeks ago up a mountain (long ass climbs then DH) and I think it was -2°c with a winchill of -10°c
I always wear a think hoodie even when it's -2 c and I never have it cold, IG it's a mental thing.
Is that Evil a 29 or 27.5?
It's a 29er me amigo!
You should try to be more explosive with the jumps on the full suspension you'll get way higher
What's your tyre psi??
ON my 29er - 28 Rear 25 Front. 27.5 Plus - 15psi rear and 14psi Front
Daily MTB Rider ty
Daily MTB Rider those tires limit are between 35-65 psi... so you are riding way below mininum.. would that also affect the bunny hop? Instead of a fully inflated wheel?
And here am I still trying to learn
Just go out and practice Sam! Riding every day makes all the difference.
5:04 thats a real bunny hop :D
Haha yeah it is!
I've been looking at the bikes you have and noticed that you are a big fan of Phil Kmetz...
I am a fan of Phil and I bought my Raleigh after seeing his. Our Evil bikes are different, but I know it looks like I’m just the biggest Phil fanboy 😂
speeding up your rebound could help as well
That's very true - I was just trying to keep my bikes at their normal setup though!
looks like your tire pressure is really low for riding on the street. actually it was the sound that made me take notice - when you compress the rear end you can hear the tire squishing into the ground
That's true - I was trying to mimic normal trail riding setup for my bikes
Those pants look like there restricting you to go higher (too tight) Lol.
Haha that is the truth my friend!
Anyone is it ok to do small jumps that are only 4 feet or so on a norco storm or is it bad for it
I wish I could ride my bike... But I crashed and messed up my knee and now I can't ride for a while
Rest up Eddie, you'll be back out there in no time!
really good video keep shredding
Thanks man, that means a lot!
👌
If I did that test, my moon would be sore long before there's any soaring over the moon.
Haha I was thinking the same thing before I did it. You might surprise yourself!
the crash alone earned a subscribe :)
Haha thanks Mike! I think so too but I'm biased!
🤔 what do rabbits drink at the bar?
🍺BUNNY HOPPS🍺
You could probably jump a lot higher if your jeans weren't for a 12 year old
Hey man - not cool - they're my wife's jeans.... not a 12 year olds 😉
Please don't wink at me
How To Bunny Hop when your saddle is up?
How heavy are both of your bikes?
I think I say in the video - about 31-33 pounds each.
I appreciate your hard work man but you should have called Danny MacAskill
Great bid man
Vid sorry
Thanks so much Oliver, I'm happy you enjoyed it!
3:40 thats exatcly how i drop my bike
