FOMO, Jealousy, and Curiosity Traps. Those are pretty much the 3 components youtubers are forced to use these days to try and earn attention/money from videos. Others go for other emotional pulls (sadness, struggle, excitement or whatever) Its really too bad youtube turned into this slave to the algorithm stuff purely for growth and money. I didn't watch the video I was just scrolling through your video titles/thumbnails and a few other channels. Bring back youtube content that was just for fun and sharing with friends.
On one hand you're right, but on the other hand - the prices used bikes/parts are going for today versus 5 years ago are MUCH cheaper. The market is really in the tank
I agree (not clickbait) - I think its informative and can help people rethink the strategy of building up a bike. In Texas we have a seller in Houston (fire pit photo guy) who consistently builds up rad bikes around this price point.
You changed the title and yes watched whole video you built a bike with used parts and it was @70% as it should be with used parts no big deal everybody clickbait’s title said specialized 70% off I just got excited and ran to the website and it said nope!
Yeah, the title could be more realistic. That being said my wife and I just bought an older tandem with full XT, FOX Talus 36, Chris king hubs and headset for $1200… the deals are out there guys!!
Did you watch the whole video? If you do, you'll see that it's true (not click bait) if you put some work in! And I have zero incentive to lie - shoot me an e-mail and I'll show you the receipt/transaction/listing of any item you don't believe me on
Ten seconds in and I have my concerns. My local bike shop hasn't budged in there prices a single penny. I've been watching. I hope your correct but I'm a rider not a mechanic and don't want to be putting together a puzzle. I want to buy a bike.
Just bought a new Status frame and built it with leftover parts. Nearly 60% less than normal retail and 50% off their sale price. Nice vid and explanation. 🤙🏻
just goes to show how much they are marked up and inflated to hell during the pandemic, now they are scaling back their profit margins we are seeing what the bikes and components should have costed in the first place
Yeah the market is nuts. While not 70% off, even last year I got my brand new 2023 Canyon Strive CFR with full XTR, fox factory, etc for $4199 direct from Canyon. Just the other day, ordered a new 2023 Nukeproof Scout RS hardtail for $1950, which is almost 1/2 off MSRP. Also just saw some new DT Swiss XM1700 wheels for $350, they retail for $1000. Only downside is if you have a bike to sell that you paid marked up prices for before the crash, it is brutal and you are taking a huge loss.
Unfortunately for where I live in Singapore (or any Asian country really with a smaller mtb community) the prices on resale platforms are absolutely sky high still and nothing's coming down. Only prices coming down are from dealers and authorized distros.... which doesn't sound good in the long run. Going to be an endless cycle of brands tossing product at cut prices and the stuff going back on the market for years to come
I am not a weird old man but I do have those grips on my Fat-Bike but does owning a Fat-Bike make me a weird old man? The market isn't as good here in rural Canada but I did get a new EMTB with a 35% discount recently. I was pretty happy with that deal.
Steinway, the piano company has the same problem with the used market so they started calling rebuilt Steinways “Steinwas” and they stopped selling parts to piano techs. I paid 40k for my completely rebuilt piano that Steinway sells for 90k plus tax.
The current huge sales show how much bikes and parts are marked up. 'Top of the line' carbon bikes are sold 50% off. I got my Demo 1k off and even that sale is gone now. 2-3k bikes are sold with barely any discount. Some bikes are more overpriced than others.
I work for a bike shop and get a great deal on bikes and parts and I used to turn my bikes about every season. With the market the way it is, I'm holding on to my current bike longer. I also have some pretty high end parts that I'd like to sell to get that shinney SRAM drivetrain but don't think I can get what I'd like for them. The good thing is I'm in no hurry so maybe the market will correct itself sooner than later. But what a time to be in the market for a new or used bike!
It's true You can build a nice budget bike for way cheaper that is not really a budget bike. The thing that I found selling used bikes is most of the people out there have no idea what parts are on them. You could sell a baseline Bronson our build for almost the same as an x-01 build because people have no idea if they're just getting into it
I look back just 2 years ago and how much my Scott Ransom eride 920 was, and the same bike now its 60% less with better components! Yes its ebikey enduro goodness, which I love. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I upgraded the drivetrain, cock pit, wheels at covid prices and now you could the newer version is 75% cheaper then my upgraded bike. Ugghh. But I'm in it for the long haul. I plan to keep this bike for several years.
@@DailyMTBRider i bought 2013 GT Force 2.0 from US for 1100$ new. Imported it into Ukraine, since at that time it cost 2k and there were no XL frame sizes.
Be sure to go check out Mike's first ride impressions on this sweet bike here! - th-cam.com/video/y5iJj51Dqxs/w-d-xo.html
Sorry this is clickbait, title is totally wrong
Did you watch the whole video? If you do, you'll see that it's true if you put some work in!
Bikes are not 70% off though. You could title it Build a bike from parts for 70% off
No it's not.
bike isnt even new
Sworks means carbon linkage not expensive just just bc its “SWorks”
Spoiler alert the entire bike is secondhand…

The market hasn’t hit an all time low. That is yet to come.
well of course if you buy used on pinkbike in the off season you're going to get bargains, there's nothing new there
On one hand you're right, but on the other hand - the prices used bikes/parts are going for today versus 5 years ago are MUCH cheaper. The market is really in the tank
Is this the only topic you cover now?
Haha sure seems like it - but no - I'll continue to post other videos soon
Def click bate sorry my dude you got me excited to get a stumpy @70% off but they still nearly 4K

@@DailyMTBRiderDude what are you doing? You changed the original title of the video 😂
It originally was "Specialized bikes are 70% off right now!"
Specialized doesn’t like this element
This channel has become all about “bike industry failing” news
😂
Haha not necessarily on purpose - but the industry is really in a free fall
Clickbait! No links to bikes 70% off .Video not on the subject!
Specialized website shows the same ol prices. 950$ for a rockhopper comp😅
Did you watch the whole video? If you do, you'll see that it's true you can get a like new bike for 70% off right now if you put some work in!

Yeah, while i already have my doubts you got these parts at these prices, i highly doubt anyone else will be so lucky. Pretty clickbaity title

Love it! You've always been the biggest "buy used" advocate, and i couldn't agree more!

had amazing deal when i worked as bike mechanic. Nowadays Ill never buy a new buy again. Theres so many good deals on bikes that are pretty much new.
Dude what an unbelievable build! I just watched Mikes first ride on it. Sounds like he’s going to love it!
I like the Ergon grips.
just goes to show how much they are marked up and inflated to hell during the pandemic, now they are scaling back their profit margins we are seeing what the bikes and components should have costed in the first place
I’ve had the same bike for the last 12 years. May be time for something new soon.
just got a trance x 2 for 2000usd instead of 3000 😇😇

Wow, I thought luthier built guitars were expensive
@@jean-micheldupont1150 LOTS of parts in a piano and repairs. It’s like having a pet elephant, costs a fortune to keep then craps on your head.
INFOMERCIAL....like watching a long advertisment
How is this not a clickbait? You just bought used parts and put them together and call that 70% off
Fine, I'll say it - YOU WERE RIGHT - 29ers are the way to go and this bike is sick! 😂
bikes get sick?

Good finds, but lots of legwork compared to finding a new bike for 70% off. I can find 40% pretty easy though!

Clickbait asf 🙄
I made a 42% saving on a kenevo sl expert. I paid £5500, retail was £9500.
Clickbait. Sad. I quite watching
Great video, awesome bike
At least here the prices are still high, we will see in some weeks if that changes.
This is more of a bargain hunter video
Looks like an angle headset thrown in there.
That comes stock with the frame which is pretty sweet!
Maxis on eBay with one X 😂
Buycycle is an amazing place to look at!!!
I waited when they are 90 percent off.
11k is madness.
Some bike companies have lost their minds!

Not just some bike companies. You know what I say to idiots that pay more than $5K for a 'mid-tier' bike? A fool and his money are soon parted.
Lol, buying bikes and building bikes are apples and oranges.
still too much
I thought you were finally joining us on a stumpy 😢
Fun fact - I got a stumpy over a year ago! Just haven't shown it for.... honestly no reason!
Clickbait!!! Used parts… yeah sure it’s 70% off!
On my 3rd bike doing exactly that. A screaming 38mph mid drive DH 180 /180 bike that's incredible fun for 4k
