Yep... Fenix 6 and 830 owner.... I am not sure how sensors, integration, compatibility is not even mentioned in this video as if they didn't matter at all.... Speed sensor, cadence sensor, even e-bike compatibility on the 830, not mentioning that they work out of the box with Strava, Trail Forks and support industry standard track export. Linux, Windows, OSX, Android support ... etc etc etc... A real sports watch vs an office toy ...
I’ve got a Fenix 5X, and the only complaint I have is the accuracy of the heart rate sensor. I’m told the Apple Watch sensor is extremely accurate, which is nice, but Apple doesn’t let Garmin devices use that data. If I could ditch my heart rate strap, I’d gladly do so, but I don’t see a way to do that right now.
Garmin Fenix (6 pro x) battery life: 25 days Apple watch : 2.5 days Garmin also works with Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and you are not chained to the Apple store ... It talks to my sensors (speed cadence), transmits my heart rate to my handlebar garmin when I use one. Also has crash detection and dual GPS. BTW: crash detection is useless if you ride rough rocky stuff and/or jumps and do abrupt stops. I triggered it on pretty much every ride. If you wan that, you should get an in-helmet one probably. Now you can pick up a Fenix 6 for around $500. Has integration with pretty much EVERYTHING, from Trail Forks to Strava to .gpx export. IMHO there is no good "do it all" device. If you are serious, you are not going to dive with an Apple Watch. Nor a Garmin. You will get a dive specific Suunto or Scubapro or similar dive computer. I don't see people who ride 4-5+ times a week changing their sport watches to this gimmick.... Come on... now we are "night vision compatible" because they added a red/black mode :O Just my 2c ...
PS ... I don't mean to offend anyone and I am not an Apple hater..... When they start producing computers you can upgrade/repair I might even get one again. I was actually tempted to get an iPhone just for the LIDAR on it, but then I reminded myself of the Apple Store ecosystem I am really not missing :)
Not much a fanboy but i just don’t see anybody making a similar size watch can have 10 times battery, it can not be done with cars for example, it must mean 10 times less usage for battery thus something does not need or is absent as a precise feature.
Some great points and would definitely be an upgrade over just using your phone, but to recommend this for ONLY cycling is crazy. For about half the price, you can get a Garmin 530 that has all the features you mentioned, plus trail forks navigation (not to mention all the more road cycling centric features). I can only see this being a good purchase if you really want a smartwatch for day to day use, or you are maybe a runner or something as well.
You can get an 830 for $399. Or a Fenix 6X for $449. I agree that either of those are a much better fit if you ride a lot. I actually own both an 830 and a Fenix 6 Pro X. Excellent units with 10x the battery life for the Fenix 6 ( 25 hours estimated :unless you enable all sensors and Wifi 24/7, which I don't ... of course less if you ride 1-2 hours a day, but still comfortably pushing 2 weeks plus on a charge. )
Do yo get cell service with those? I head out with my Apple Watch for long ride, beach trips, etc, and don’t have to carry a cellphone. It syncs up with Strava and I compared it to my garmin head units and its often as accurate or more accurate and I don’t need a chest HR strap. The only cool thing would if it could sync up to power meter. The Apple Watch is also still appropriate for work and doesn’t look like a Casio GSHock…. Lastly, the resale value is great on Apple products, Ive gotten pretty good cash or trade up credits on older Apple watches.

@@Thomas-fy9yc You are right with the design, Fenix with shirt looks odd. However watch will never be as accurate as chest strap. And if you need navigation either on road or mtb, it is very dangerous to check the wrist during the trail or fast descent. That is the reason, why, if you will start riding a lot, you will use your bike computer in front of you, where you can see all data you need. I tried to ride known mtb trails with watch on, but in hot weather watch tend to slide down on wrist because of sweat. And same cross country skiing, where watch under mittens causing pain. I own AW, however for serious sports I always use Fenix.
Have a Garmin 530 and the Tactix Delta. Use both mountain biking all the time (not at same time). They are beasts and have way better features than this Apple watch with much better battery life.
For most people this will be all they ever need. But Garmin 530 with Trailforks integration and ability to preload defined routes with turn by turn directions is way more practical if your doing serious cycling. Not to mention on bike and chest HR sensors that are more accurate. For hardcore enthusiasts, Dedicated Garmin is more feature rich.
For half the money I think a Garmin Instinct 2 would function better for mountain biking and other activities. Also more durable, I just smashed mine against a tree yesterday and it only left a smudge on the bezel that easily rubbed off with a finger.
You can get it even cheaper because the Apple Watch 6 and newer versions have it too will save you some money unles you want to get the ultra it’s all up to you I got the 6 and a update just released this feature 🤘🏼
Apple guy here. My Ultra has smacked trees several times and never a dent or a scratch. It's the first Apple watch that I've been able to read without glasses. Great on night rides. Integrates into the architecture perfectly. Wish it had a better integration with Trail Forks so it could give you turn by turn haptics. Also "Outdoor Cycle" doesn't cut it. Needs to be "MTB Ride" showing all the stats. I love the Garmin Epix but was affraid it might not integrate as well at the Apple product.
Just recently got into the garmin Fenix 7 and I don’t think I’ll go back to the Apple Watch. Looks like an actual watch and does so much for all of my hobbies. Just super impressed with it over all
Can't imagine ever needing one, or any other smart watch. Not really a big fan of watches in general tho. Having something on the wrist feels weird. Usually just track my rides on the phone.
This is the problem with Apple fanboys, all of these features arent new if you have basically any other smartwatch. Why are you willing to spend 2x price for an inferior product just because it's got an apple logo.
Because now it has all the cutting edge features Garmin and Android had 4 years ago! You have to pay for innovation. /S I did not realize having a face that was protected was a feature. I though all watches had that.
Apple fanboys are fanboys because they usually nail the user interface and usability. Garmin is hot garbage in this regard. But I couldn't live with the poor relative battery life.
So Garmin has invented an incredible battery that lasts x time longer then the biggest tech company can muster? I just don’t understand, seems the non-fanboy Garmin watches are half tech-empty or have to have several times the battery size to do the numbers.
I believe something like an Epix would be a much better choice for almost everything you mentioned and it's basically in the same price category. Probably great if you want all the smartwatch features, but for me, when I had a smartwatch, I didn't even use half of the features, and a Garmin was a much better fit.
Same here. I even bought Epix gen2. I've used it for two weeks but ultimately I decided it is not for me, sold it to my friend and got myself Fenix 7X Never regret it, never have I looked back. 7X is hands down the best sport tracking device I've ever seen. I have friends who have Apple watch, friends who have Suunto, Polar, Samsung, Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi watches. All of them pale in comparison.
I have a question for Apple Watch users... Which app do you use to track your rides? I've been using the one under 'workouts'. I don't love it and I'm considering other options. If you use more than one, which is your favorite and why? Thank you.
Wait...so Garmin lets you control music on your iPhone in any situation like biking, driving, working out, walking, relaxing, flying? And make and take calls? And let's you text? And lets you audio record? And lets you interface to AirPods? And your calendar? And gives you alerts to remind you of life priority issues of your choosing? Wow...it's strange then why Apple is one of the biggest companies in the entire world....all the dummies have been buying Apple while the smart people bought Garmin....no wonder they have billions in cash and Garmin doesn't. And brilliant analyst skills....you mean....like Apple waited for there to be an established highly populated user base in a field that they could swoop into at any moment and gradually dominate? That's called very smart business sense...letting someone else build the platform....take the risks....do the marketing until mind share on products of that arena are widely accomplished...and THEN come in with hey guys...got something you might like that's going to tie into the entire iPhone user base in ways that a Garmin never will be able to , and slowly pick off the customers that have already been made to appreciate Garmin features that now exist in the iPhone ecosystem ...for the iPhone user base that also has used Garmin...guess what product they'll more likely buy the NEXT time they need GPS outdoor functions that only bought Garmin because there was no competition? That's how smart analysts would examine the scenario....and is exactly how Apple thinks and executes....just another derivation of how the Japanese market works...let someone else do the inventing and suffer all the hiccups of that process....then simply make a better "thing" and sell it to those that obviously want something like but bought the inferior product first....it's called letting your competition create the market for you.
@@locophoto6881 Apple is a boring company in a predictable product cycle. ios is a watered down OS made for Grandma's and Facebook moms. The fact that you have to jailbreak the OS to get basic customization features is ridiculous. Apple will never have the clientele or the people to appeal to cyclists unless it's a brainwashed apple fan such as yourself. Not to mention Apple likely never will take into account certain features that are vital cyclists like strava live segments. Enjoy!

@@locophoto6881 Just bought a new Ultra 2 to replace Garmin. The only time your argument has not worked is on Tesla. They are still waiting for the Apple Car
Great video! I just switched from EPIX and am happy with the Ultra...however, I'm shocked the only biking activity is "outdoor cycling". How do I differentiate between my MTB and road cycling activities? I alternate both, and would like to look in my history and review stats by activitiy, not have them all lumped together.
When integrated with Strava, you can ensure that these different activities are separated. The Strava app on the AW is, in my opinion, a better workout app than the native Apple variant. It has the majority of the same features as Apple’s version, but it has much more flexibility and a degree of more functionality. As a disabled e-bike rider, I use it for all my e-bike rides, both on the road and the mountain bike trails.
I just sold my Series 5 for a Garmin Fenix. This new Apple Watch intrigues me, but I have had it for over a week, use it every day, and haven’t had to charge it yet 😝
I think it looks and is great, but at 15 years old, a 1.1k CAD watch is simply too expensive, so I’ll stick to my Apple Watch SE for now ** I think my drivers license, which costs a little less than the Watch, is a better option for now
The problem I see for road biking, no Ant+ support and no integration with garmin. The second point can be worked around with multiple apps running in the background and have a power meter and HRM with BT instead of Ant+. If someone could suggest an app that can use the HRM, Power meter, (Garmin Varia support for radar) with lap counter, router planning, I’d reconsider Apple. However, at this price point, I could just get a Garmin smart watch which has all the things the new Apple Watch with even better battery life, for about the same price. OR just settle for a cycling computer. It is a hard decision to go with this watch, other than being in the Apple eco-system.
I’m running the Garmin Phoenix 5x with the sapphire glass. Indestructible! I seriously beat the heck out of it. It keeps truckin! And the battery is awesome. I charge it for 45 mins, once every 2 weeks.
Does this have a sat nav style system like in a car. So I can go to new places and be shown turn for turn where to go. If not are there any watches that do this. I want to do some rides in the Lake District but I don’t know my way around.
I got my Ultra yesterday and immediately went on a MTB ride. Almost none of the ultra features improve the biking experience over a series 8 besides dual gps and maybe the emergency siren. You will still need to use a bike computer if you want to use power and have active speed displayed in a useful way. For me, the Apple Watch is more important for non-cycling stats that are relevant to my training. Workout data like yoga and strength training, and now recovery with sleep monitoring. The ultra is really appealing for two reasons over a series 8. It looks great and it gets roughly 3 days battery life. If as a cyclist neither of those things are relevant stick with a series 8.
How did you get shops to send you ebikes to review I am trying to start up my own youtube Channel about reviewing all types of electric bikes honestly so customers can have a honest review to make there dicison on what ebike would be best to fit them., I just need to get a bike to get up and going what do u recommend?
I don’t track anything, I just ride how I’m feeling. If I want to track something, that’s what the indoor trainer is for. Outside, I just want to ride.
Hi do you know if this watch can be linked with Garmin Edge 1040 like if you can broadcast your pulse from watch to your Garmin unit? I’m a huge Apple fan and I like the idea that you actually got your phone with you in the watch and Apple Pay etc but man if this watch works with my Garmin computer then it’s a no brainer for me to buy it. Thanks
Is the GPS on the Apple Watch different or better than the GPS in the iPhone? Is the wayfinder feature only available with the Apple Watch, or can the iPhone do the same thing without the watch? Basically, are there anything the iPhone cannot do that the watch does (besides the fall detection and heart rate)?
Hi. What are your findings on the GPS tracking in Strava when mountainbiking? For me (Watch series 5) it always tracks a lot longer than other devices. It sort of makes jagged left and right turns when in fact I'm following a smooth trail. I understand that i could be the trees blocking the signal, but other devices does a much better job. I have tried to disconnect bluetooth on my phone and recorded a ride and that made the issue almost dissapear. But that's a work around. Is there someone else with the same issues or someone have any clues to what I should do? I'm thinking about getting a Ultra (mainly because of its far superior looks, but if it doesn't fix my problem with tracking it would be a real dissapointment.
Apple user here, currently own a series 6 watch. One thing I can say is if you're using the GPS features of your watch, don't expect the battery life to be anything near that 60hrs shown in this video. It won't even be close. I expect it will be better than the ~4 hrs you get on a Series 6, but definitely nothing remotely close to 60. If you're expecting to use the GPS on the watch frequently or for extended periods, be ready to charge it at least a couple times over the course of a day, and know that if you're camping and riding trails, that 60 hrs definitely won't work out into 2+ days of use on a single charge if you're using the GPS features.
Dedicated devices like the Garmin 530 just work good every time. Watches always get their buttons pushed, have tiny batteries, get ambient temperature/ elevation wrong because it’s on your wrist, and the HR monitor pales in comparison to chest strap.
Biggest thing that peaks my interest is being able to leave the phone at home and still use the strava beacon feature and call for help if the worst happens
I need too wear wrist braces on both wrists, so I don't wear a watch any more when riding. I use Trailforks on my phone. But I've not tried gps cycling computers yet.
I have been wearing a series 6 for the past two seasons primarily as a safety device. I have it for emergency calls and crash detection, reliably monitoring my heart rate and location tracking. However, I really wish it was Trailforks compatible and had more features specific to MTB. For my size, I found the watch too small; especially with gloves on so I have ordered an Ultra to try. I am hoping that their more outdoor-focused direction that will help spawn some MTB-specific apps that will really take advantage of the new features.
Came off my EMTB. Badly injured, middle of nowhere. Started to get hypothermia and was badly exposed. Mobile phone was in rucksack which I could not get to (had come free from me down embankment). Called for help, used what three words. Got rescued off my wrist. Thanks Apple Watch. Bought the ultra today 👍🏼
I'm usually ok with a bit of the click baity-ness needed for YT these days, but a watch can't change biking man.. it changes watches, and as other have pointed out, this one is pricey for less biking features than most garmins. I actually think the Sat call ability of the 14 is potentially a bigger "win" although hopefully one never needs it. I have a series 7 and agree, it sucks for biking, I never wear it when park riding, and have tried protective cases for trail, but once sweat gets in them, the touch functionality hardly works. Maybe a "Ultra, SE" version could change my mind, keep it under 500, and better battery life please.
Having broken a couple of Apple Watch screens I have lusted after the garmin watches but I couldn’t give up the Apple Watch features. The ultra is the best of both worlds. I have already ordered one.
Dear Apple Ultra users, I just bought this Watch and have no experience for so far, how can I use ( App or activity) to measure my results on a close motorcross track, thanks for help in advance greetings Jack
It doesn't look rugged at all. It looks more like a fashion watch. I would be afraid on the first bash against a branch. My Garmin had been hit so many times and still looks great.
I want one so bad man. I’ve just started up back mountain biking this pass year and just got one from Amazon now but doing the job for now I think lol keep riding 👍👍👍
I wouldn't want to wear a watch that bulky for every day use. I think the best way to go about it is have a normal Apple Watch for work / every day use and a Garmin Fenix for MTB and other outdoor activities. The Garmin has insane battery life, maps and great durability (especially with the Sapphire screen). Plus you can buy both for less than what the ultra costs.
I just don’t think Garmin is for people who are fully integrated into the Apple ecosystem. Everything just works together so well. I love the activity tracker that Apple has come up with. Easy to compete with friends. I’m ok giving up a little battery life so that I can can make phone calls and get texts all while tracking rides. I ended up getting the Ultra.
I am glad that we get more useful features for bikers on mainstream electronics. I think that this is great! But for now I will stick with my Garmin 6x Pro
I was wondering if the bike recorder had jump stats like Specialized mission control. Or If someone will create an app with jump stats. The indicators that trigger events for other sports are impressive so with all the sensors I wonder if possible to detect or infer when the bike is in the air?
For this video alone, I hope they send you one. Nice presentation, it certainly looks cool. Looking forward to your video discussing the gps issues you mentioned.
I wear gloves for work all day and have constantly turned my volume up or down by accident with the dial rubbing on the glove. So the protector is already a win lol.
I was planning to buy a bike computer as my existing Apple Watch's battery life isn't sufficient for tracking long rides. I don't really need the training stats, just want to log the basics like route, time and speed. Decided to get the Ultra as I need the cellular connectivity and I wouldn't need an external heart rate monitor strap (for bike computers). I loved my old Garmin watch too but an Apple Watch enables me go for a ride/swim/jog without my phone.
I have been using a Fenix 3 HR for years with more features (and the sapphire lens is amazing). I have also been using a Garmin 530 with MTB Dynamics and Trailforks integration. Can't be beat!
Good video! Love Apple products but I’d still take the Garmin Fenix hands down. Currently have a Fenix 7, it’s amazing and rugged for all the outdoor activities I do.
I’m concerned about the physical size of it being too large. I have a scar on my left hand already from the crown of my series 3 digging into the top of my hand during a crash. I’ve been needing something with fall detection for safety. May as well do the full upgrade if it’s not too huge.
Nice try by Apple, But still only a 36 hour battery life. No ANT+ sensor capabilities. Falls extremely short Of a Garmin Fenix or Epix models. Maybe next Gen they will be closer to Garmin
Don't worry, they will sell you an Apple battery pack to charge it on the go :) I think it is 60 hours BTW... 2.5 days ... still a far cry from my Fenix 6's 25 days :O ... OK, let's call it 2 weeks with 7 days a week of exercise/riding with all sensors on.
Nah. I was a G- Shock fan. Then i used the first G-Shock smartwatch ( GSW-H1000S) but it does not meet my requirement, mainly because it has a short battery life which is similar to AW Ultras. Even though 36 hrs more it’s still such a bug bear. Currently, I’m using Garmin Tactix 7 Pro and it is a beast. Never need to charge because it is solar powered. It has all the cool stuff including the incident emergency call. Great for MTB riding because it tough built with Sapphire glass and titanium bezel. Plus a huge touchscreen display watch face. Never needed any other watch as I wear it 24/7 even when I’m sleeping. Love it.
I switched from a garmin to an Apple Watch because it’s a better smart watch for me, replying to texts and what not, but I’ll use a garmin bike computer to track my rides as I’m fairly sure it’s more accurate.
Apple should pay you for this! I’ve never owned one and really didn’t see any reason to own one until today. For the reasons you’ve mentioned l, I will be glad to buy one! Accidents can happen to any of us and I fell like this would be a huge asset to have on!
I’m testing some APPs on the new iWatch and have a long historical experience with Apple as well as Polar and Garmin watches and cycling software. The auto start and pause plus the audible updates are about the best features I can think of plus fall/crash detection. I’m starting to explore 3rd party APPs that will provide more detail and customization options. The old Polar Beat APP has audible features that Apple should consider. Anyway I’m going ride soon thanks
iPhone 14 also has satellite communications like a Garmin InReach...and it's free. I'll still keep my Garmin, but nice feature in an emergency for people that don't have or want to pay for an InReach.
I have a Garmin Felix 5X Sapphire that I’ve had for almost 6 years and it could do 80% of what the new Ultra does BUT with a battery life of more than a week! No low power mode required! Sapphire glass, no scratches during that period and the case has plenty of marks on it. Get the Felix 7X Sapphire Solar for $100 more and it’ll blow the Ultra out of the water! I’m an Apple iOS and Mac user since 2005 and until Apple catches up in the battery department I’m sticking with Garmin.
Worth it. I am not an intense adventure or hyper fitness guy. That said, I want a more rugged and capable watch that fits my chosen ecosystem. I just wish Apple would incorporate solar and maps.
I use a Garmin 530 bike computer, but I'm blown away by this watch and I am definitely buying one. Only problem is my iPhone is a 10 max and not supported with the new watch. So, what this means is that the watch will cost me $2,000 with a new iPhone 14. Crap.
What you just described in this video van be easily done by many Polar, Garmin, Coros and Suunto for much less money. Just as an example, the Polar Grit X Pro Titan is around $400, has the same Titanium body + Sapphire display and rugged build, has the same back track feature, can lock the display so you don't click the buttons by accident as well, has real long battery life during a GPS activity (the 60 hours of the AW is not available yet and the total they can last without it it's not even a third of that) and to be honest, any sport watch is accurate enough even in the middle of the mountains. The metrics are way better and Fuel wise from polar is a huge plus during long rides, and it's actually *half the price* of the Apple Watch Ultra, having only cash detection and the siren missing which again is offered by Garmin for actually lower prices once again, say about $200 less with the same advantages from Polar.
You forgetting that the Ultra can make calls and connect to internet without being tethered. Can any of those devices do that? In fact, the most desirable Garmin watches cost more than the Ultra.
@@GhostFishSlayer no, they can't, but do you really go perform the target sports for this device without a phone? At least in my case, I don't see myself doing so, specially considering the battery on a GPS activity, best case scenario, is around 16 hours when it is brand new. Now assuming there's a market of people having an iPhone, doing outdoors activities comfortable with going outdoors without a phone and relying on a device with less of a day on a charge as their only connection with the world sounds very niche to me
Same thoughts. I´m on the market for a fitness watch. Yet the Garmin fenix convinces me more but I´d find it cool, if the ultra watch would be similarly good for mountain biking.
Would be amazing if you can put the watch is some kind of a case and mount it on your handlebars. For roadcyclist could be a great cycling computer as well but you need the display on the handlebars in front. Replacing Garmin, Wahoo and other cycling computers would be a great value. But i am not sure if they worked on this idea at Apple
Garmin Epix 2 - up to 16 days of battery life, best fitness watch out there. Garmin 530 cycling computer - does everything you need for every type of cycling.
I'm a huge Apple fan, alpha tester etc but still nowhere near something like a Garmin fenix. As a mt biker I have a need for a chest strap for HR and HRV during my ride. I also want my speed/cadence sensor and power meter paired with my watch. Trailforks as well on my watch. While I respect the Apple Watch, it's not just battery life that keeps away. Garmin's health & fitness metrics are just so good as is Connect, the companion app, making it a no-brainer still.
That’s why I have a garmin 530 and an Apple Watch. I can ride with chest strap and collect all data on 530. I can also leave my phone at home and take off with my Apple Watch.
I'm an apple user. iPhone, ipad, airpods, macbook. I use an 8 yr old Garmin fenix 3 that does all of these things very well. Dual band GPS, trackback feature, and it's absolutely bombproof. Zero screen scratches completely waterproof. It's not a touchscreen though but the button layout is good and it does everything a smartwatch should do. I can view texts, see emails, answer calls, change songs etc. I still don't think apple is ready to replace my old watch, especially for $800. I'm looking forward to apple improving their watch enough for me to jump though. Maybe in a few years.
Just as a point of accuracy, the F3 cannot do dual bands simultaneously. It also cannot answer a call on the watch only as it has no microphone, speakers or cellular connection.
You forgot to say that Apple Watch 6 and SE older version have it to with a update I don’t know when this update released with this feature but they are more affordable Apple Watches or for the people who have the Apple Watch 6 or SE and don’t want to spent $700 or probably more with taxes insurance or that ext. will cost more so to save your self some money it’s a good thing to have I have the Apple Watch 6 and it’s very helpful because I do mountain biking too and is nice to have good luck out there be safe🤘🏼
From what I have read, apple watches don't have a way to connect sensors from your bike like cadence or power meters. Or a way to record data from these sensors. This makes them pretty useless for cyclists that use these devices. Has this changed on the ultra?
With durability you have no point here because there is no way to tell yet if it will hold up better in the real world or not. That being said, my Gear S3 Frontier Watch has the screen slightly lower than the surrounding navigation ring, this helps to protect the screen from scratches. And so far I have yet to hit any button by accident, with or without gloves. And while mine doesn´t have a hard fall detection, other watches have for a while now and even mine can, and is, set up to send an emergency call and notifications to emergency contacts if I press the home button quickly 3 times. In Addition the Garmin on my bike does have a Hard Fall sensor. The Wayfinder thing looks and sounds more or less like how Komoot presents your ongoing activity on the Watch App. Overall really just a gimmick to me, never really used that on my watch because a) the Garmin has a proper map build in that show me where I have been and since I have my phone with me anyway, that thing has way better map features anyway. If I get lost in a new area, I simply plan a route in Komoot to a new destination starting from my current position and send the route to my Garmin. Overall, to me it sounds more like Apple is playing catch up with what others offer for a while now and building 1st party alternatives to what 3rd party apps can do anyway on watches. Even the dual GPS thing is only noteworthy because not too many others have that implemented yet, but it´s pretty much a given that this newer tech will be coming in pretty much anything in the future.
I just bought a Garmin Fenix 7 solar! Dammit! I'll just wait for this watch to get another rev or 2, then I'll buy. It looks great, especially in terms of battery life and the emergency functionality.
Got a garmin edge 530 plus, give me all you mentioned and hooks to my bars so I can look at my path without taking my hands off the handlebar. Much safer, easier, and cheaper.
Normally I like your content but this has to be the most Apple Fan Boy video ever. Garmin owns the market on sports watches. I’m also an Apple Fan but I rock a Garmin Fenix watch. Why? It’s the best. Period.
Great video thanks Yes I’ve had Apple watches in the past but broke them whilst mountain biking so I got a garmin fénix 6x which is amazing but I miss the cellular feature and the brightness of Apple Watch so I’m in for this new ultra 💯👍🏻
Apple Watch does not support ANT+. Therefore, there is no known e-bike that you could connect Apple Watch to. (You can connect any ANT+ smartwatch to Specialized and Giant e-bikes).
I’m a big apple fan.
But my old Garmin Fenix 5 is still better than this watch in nearly every way
I was going to say my old Fenix 3 still outperforms this...
I have a Fenix 3 and think it's better than this.
So your garmin can make a phone call right? 😂 I have garmin and also gonna buy this watch
Garmin Fenix (6 pro x) battery life: 25 days
Apple watch : 2.5 days
Garmin also works with Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and you are not chained to the Apple store ...
Come on... now we are "night vision compatible" because they added a red/black mode :O
Just my 2c ...
All those dumb apple haters out there …so cringe ..why you so obsessed with it if you hate it ..cringe boy
Thank you Logan. Apple Watch has never and is still not the best option for cycling! This is clear.
For hardcore enthusiasts, Dedicated Garmin is more feature rich.
can still use a BT-enabled chest strap with an apple watch which is what I do.
Dude, get a Garmin for sports, leave the apple watches for bloggers and Caffè joggers 👍
Just super impressed with it over all
exactly
Agreed not to mention the durability and battery life is much better than Apple.
Can't imagine ever needing one, or any other smart watch. Not really a big fan of watches in general tho. Having something on the wrist feels weird. Usually just track my rides on the phone.
Ok
You kinda just forget it’s there after a while
@@colebailey that is true!
I did not realize having a face that was protected was a feature.
I've used it for two weeks but ultimately I decided it is not for me, sold it to my friend and got myself Fenix 7X
Never regret it, never have I looked back. 7X is hands down the best sport tracking device I've ever seen. I have friends who have Apple watch, friends who have Suunto, Polar, Samsung, Huawei, Honor and Xiaomi watches. All of them pale in comparison.
Except Garmin disables incident detection for MTB. 😞
I have a question for Apple Watch users... Which app do you use to track your rides? I've been using the one under 'workouts'. I don't love it and I'm considering other options. If you use more than one, which is your favorite and why? Thank you.
Use outdoor cycle, loads better for tracking your routes
@@Lifestartsatforty Thanks. I'll check it out.
Wait, so Apple has finally caught up with Garmin from 5 years ago! And only cost twice the amount! What a great deal

Just bought a new Ultra 2 to replace Garmin.
Have already ordered one to replace my series 5 for all these reasons. GPS inaccuracy has been bugging me.
I just sold my Series 5 for a Garmin Fenix. This new Apple Watch intrigues me, but I have had it for over a week, use it every day, and haven’t had to charge it yet 😝
I think it looks and is great, but at 15 years old, a 1.1k CAD watch is simply too expensive, so I’ll stick to my Apple Watch SE for now
** I think my drivers license, which costs a little less than the Watch, is a better option for now
Garmins have better GPS and are more rugged. Here in the UK they’re half the price as well
and has up to 5x better battery life!
Surfacing and old video - you still rocking this watch? I noticed mine slaps around a bit in the rough stuff!
Agree all the way. Just ride and have fun people no tech required. 👍🏻
Like you said, Garmin is already doing it, and so are other none expensive watches....
Hi mate, great vid. What app are you using for trails linking / mirroring to Apple Watch
Dedicated devices like the Garmin 530 just work good every time. Watches always get their buttons pushed, have tiny batteries, get ambient temperature/ elevation wrong because it’s on your wrist, and the HR monitor pales in comparison to chest strap.
Do you have to have your phone with you for your watch to work?
Biggest thing that peaks my interest is being able to leave the phone at home and still use the strava beacon feature and call for help if the worst happens
leave your phone? why? don't you want to be able to call sb.?
@@mtbboy1993 The Ultra has cellular connectivity built in, it doesn't need to be connected to a phone to call, text or send data.

I need too wear wrist braces on both wrists, so I don't wear a watch any more when riding.
I use Trailforks on my phone.
But I've not tried gps cycling computers yet.
Does the Apple Watch (ultra) recognize the use of cable cars/lifts in bike parcs?
Maybe a "Ultra, SE" version could change my mind, keep it under 500, and better battery life please.
does it works on apple watch SE too?
Having broken a couple of Apple Watch screens I have lusted after the garmin watches but I couldn’t give up the Apple Watch features. The ultra is the best of both worlds. I have already ordered one.
Dear Apple Ultra users, I just bought this Watch and have no experience for so far, how can I use ( App or activity) to measure my results on a close motorcross track,
thanks for help in advance greetings Jack
What about connecting the watch to a power meter ?
How is the battery life?
Battery life in days not hrs. Also has the ability to charge itself. Apple might take it sooner or later, but garmin just has it for now.
Didn’t explain any details about using the GPS feature?
For this video alone, I hope they send you one. Nice presentation, it certainly looks cool. Looking forward to your video discussing the gps issues you mentioned.
They haven't changed biking at all. Just released new gadget with horrible battery life.
Nice balanced video. For me Apple products are over-priced and I'll stick to my Garmin Instinct which does everything I need it to.
Cool but 800 is ridiculous.
No ANT+. What are they thinking?
It would need satellite to replace my inReach for solo rides. Most long solo rides that i take the inReach on is because there is no cell signal.
Good video! Love Apple products but I’d still take the Garmin Fenix hands down. Currently have a Fenix 7, it’s amazing and rugged for all the outdoor activities I do.
I’ve had all the Apple Watches. I love it. I support this!
Cool updates, but I think most people will be very happy with the Fitbit Charge 5 or a Garmin 530 at a considerably lower price point.
I’m concerned about the physical size of it being too large. I have a scar on my left hand already from the crown of my series 3 digging into the top of my hand during a crash. I’ve been needing something with fall detection for safety. May as well do the full upgrade if it’s not too huge.
Did you know you can rotate the Apple Watch 180 degrees so the crown faces the opposite way and then flip the screen in settings?
Nice try by Apple, But still only a 36 hour battery life. No ANT+ sensor capabilities. Falls extremely short Of a Garmin Fenix or Epix models. Maybe next Gen they will be closer to Garmin
Don't worry, they will sell you an Apple battery pack to charge it on the go :)
I think it is 60 hours BTW... 2.5 days ... still a far cry from my Fenix 6's 25 days :O ... OK, let's call it 2 weeks with 7 days a week of exercise/riding with all sensors on.
@@denesk2794 36 hours in normal mode. 60 hours in “low power” mode.
Looks the goods can't wait for the upgrade ! Not that i'm upgrading just for mtb but i use mine for everything
I do this with my garmin fenix... they make a handlebar clip for them. Ant+ connected chest strap for heartrate and you're good to go 👍
good info. thanks
Garmin Epix 2 - up to 16 days of battery life, best fitness watch out there. Garmin 530 cycling computer - does everything you need for every type of cycling.
iPhone 14 with Satelite emergency calls is great too.
@@theotherphil I have the option to "answer or decline" a call on thr watch that's connected to whatever headphones I'm using
You forgot to say that Apple Watch 6 and SE older version have it to with a update I don’t know when this update released with this feature but they are more affordable Apple Watches or for the people who have the Apple Watch 6 or SE and don’t want to spent $700 or probably more with taxes insurance or that ext. will cost more so to save your self some money it’s a good thing to have I have the Apple Watch 6 and it’s very helpful because I do mountain biking too and is nice to have good luck out there be safe🤘🏼
Dangit, I just got a Series 7 Apple Watch. Although my heart did stop for a second when you said the price.
From what I have read, apple watches don't have a way to connect sensors from your bike like cadence or power meters. Or a way to record data from these sensors. This makes them pretty useless for cyclists that use these devices. Has this changed on the ultra?
I don’t wear a watch but I might start. Apple just keeps getting better, that’s why I own the stock, iPhone and now maybe the watch.
If you already have one thats cool, but otherwise that money could greatly go into better parts for your bike
Most of these features are available on the Series 8 - I'm not convinced of the difference for cycling in particular.
The screen on my series 3 got smashed and it wasn’t from mountain biking. The Ultra is the best Apple Watch I’ve had
I don't think i would ever put $800 on my wrist while I ride my bike downhill lmaooo. But love your vids man :)
Got a garmin edge 530 plus, give me all you mentioned and hooks to my bars so I can look at my path without taking my hands off the handlebar. Much safer, easier, and cheaper.
Same here but still take the watch for safety. Don’t have to bring the phone. 530 for data , watch for calls if ever needed.
Proud Apple fan here!
Normally I like your content but this has to be the most Apple Fan Boy video ever. Garmin owns the market on sports watches. I’m also an Apple Fan but I rock a Garmin Fenix watch. Why? It’s the best. Period.
I don’t know what the video is about, but surely an appropriate reaction to the title is: “No it definitely didn’t!” 😜
Great video thanks
Yes I’ve had Apple watches in the past but broke them whilst mountain biking so I got a garmin fénix 6x which is amazing but I miss the cellular feature and the brightness of Apple Watch so I’m in for this new ultra 💯👍🏻
Apple Watch does not support ANT+. Therefore, there is no known e-bike that you could connect Apple Watch to. (You can connect any ANT+ smartwatch to Specialized and Giant e-bikes).
I am an apple fan, but I have many watches already that are not apple...I think a garmin is my choice for bike riding.
