Hey hey, what primer are you using? I tried a dark gray from Army Painter and it definitely didn’t do well with citadel contrasts. Do you think the Mechanicus-standard would do any better or is there a specific one you recommend?

I've used a regular DIY shop dark grey spray and Mechanicus is close to it, so should work well. The key is to give quite a heavy dry brush going over it a few times.
I'll mostly use an airbrush and when I do I use Vallejo German Panzer Grey. It's quite dark but with that heavy white drybrush it works nicely.
