Algebra 37 - Solving Systems of Equations by Elimination
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 14 ต.ค. 2024
- Systems of two equations in x and y can be solved by adding the equations to create a new equation with one variable eliminated. This new equation can then be solved to find the value of the remaining variable. That value is then substituted into either equation to find the value of other variable.

THE REASON HE ADDED NEGATIVE 2 when the equation is 2x +3
And there is X under in order to get rid of the 2 you would have to add -2 and you cant only do it to one you have to distribute it to the whole problem.
i was having a hard time figuring what to do when the x have no way of canceling out each other and you helped me to solve it,thanks.

But where did you get -2 from???! I dont understand it at all I am so confused and I want to die and cry. I am in 8th grade and I dont understand this one bit, it switches up really weird.
Dude he got negative two because he wanted to cancel the number out. If it was positive two, it would've equalled four. But if you change it to negative two, it'll be zero. I'm an eight grader who was confused so I understand how you feel so I hope that sort of helps.

Hello. First off, I would like to start of by thanking you for teaching me how to do this but I have a question. What is there were questions that was like 7(x + 5) = 2( y + 3) do you have any good tips on making this easier?
4(x + y) = 13 + 3x
A good first step is to change the form of both equations to Ax + By = C.
7(x + 5) = 2(y + 3) --> 7x + 35 = 2y + 6 --> 7x - 2y = -29
4(x + y) = 13 + 3x --> 4x + 4y = 13 + 3x --> x + 4y = 13
The system of equations is:
7x - 2y = -29
x + 4y = 13
what if i have a question 6x=3y-5-2x
You bring the -2x to the opposite side so that it becomes + then, we have 4x =3y-5 and when u even bring the 3y to this side we have, 4x-3y = -5 then you solve it As usual.
+Drovan Reddy How about this:
2y=3(x+4)
5x+2y=-4
I'm so confused!
Thank you. It helps a lot❤️
Nice n very easy ways of solving....thank u sir...
Where did you get -2 from?
Why would you distribute that random number to all the others in order to eliminate x
where in the video?
@@adi4937 I found it out, the goal is to eliminate x or y so you multiply the top or bottom (or both) in order to get a like -2x and 2x or any other positive and negative
bLiXy in math u are allowed to multiply by a random number if u multiple the both side by the same number. Let’s say u got 5x=10 u can do 2(5x)=2(10) see I’m multiplying both sides by 2 and the answer won’t change, it will be 10x=20. It’s the same thing

amazing video, you're a lifesaver
at 2:11 it showed 2x + 3y = 15 and x - 3y = 3 and they said to add the like terms. If a subtraction sign is in front of the number, its considered a negative number. I'm about to finish doing this, for accelerated math grade 7. But I'm just giving you tips just in case youre new to this
your presentations are beautiful !
So I was like dying in class and all bc I got random ones right and random ones wrong, right? So I watch this and BAM! I find my problem. I was multiplying the variables by each other every time no matter what. Like, say 2x+4y=2 and 4x+5y=56 or whatever. Instead of just multiplying the top one by 2, I would multiply the top by 4 and the bottom by 2. (solving for x)

I dont understand if y is by itself on one side of the equation if it should be combined into 2y or just stay its own variable as y. This doesn't help at all.
Always combine all the y terms and all the x terms into a single y term and a single x term.
Keep them coming. Love WhyU
In this equation how did you get -2 when the equation is x-3y=3?
I'm confused on the thing about multiplying by negative 2. If that happens doesn't it change the equation?
Multiplying both sides of an equation by the same non-zero constant gives an equivalent equation with the same solution set. Therefore, both sides of an equation can be multiplied by negative two during the elimination process if it helps to find the solution.
plese make video for rectangle construction too and algebric diagram

How do you solve when everything cancels out??
-12x-15y=-9
4x+5y=3
+Chamisa Bass When everything cancels out, producing the equation 0 = 0, this indicates that the system consists of two dependent equations and therefore has an infinite number of solutions. Watch algebra chapter 39 - "Inconsistent, Dependent, & Independent Systems", and chapter 40 - "Solving Inconsistent or Dependent Systems", for more information about dependent systems.
how would i solve this?
3x+2y=16
4x-3y=9
I've tried to use all methods but I always get confused
Greeaaaaaaaaat thx my teacher mister George didn't explain it
what would you do if you had 3x-5y=-35 and 3x-5y=12
Okay so i have a problem one of my questions on my algebra paper is x+2y=-14
x-y=13
would you solve this problem the same way you did the last problem
x + 2y = -14
x - y = 13
Using elimination to solve this problem you can decide to either start by eliminating x and solve for y, or eliminating y and solve for x . The easiest approach is probably to eliminate x by multiplying the second equation by negative one and adding the two equations. This gives the equation 3y = -27 or y = -9. Substituting this value for y back into the second equation gives x -(-9) = 13 or x = 4. Don't forget to check these results by plugging these values for x and y back into the original equations and making sure they work.
thank you so much!!!!
where the -2 come from ? help please!

Why did you add the negative at the 7:51 mark?
+Mighty We want the sum of the x terms in the two equations to be zero when the equations are added, so multiplying both sides of one equation by negative one is essentially the same thing as subtracting the second equation from the first equation.

What if you have different x and y's and can't get them alone
+Jay Patel You can always eliminate a variable by multiplying the term in one equation which includes that variable by the coefficient of the term for the same variable in the other equation and vise versa and then subtracting one term from the other. For example if equation one included the term 3x and equation two included the term 4x then we would multiply equation one by 4 and equation two by -3 and add the two equations.

Why negative 2 and not a different negative number?
Hello Aurora: The goal of the elimination method is to create an equation which contains only one variable (either x or y) by adding two equations from the system of equations. However, in order to produce an equation with only one variable, you may need to first multiply one or both equations by non-zero constants before adding. If we wish to eliminate "x" given the two equations 2x + 3y = 15 and x - 3y = 3, we must find multipliers for one or both equations which cause the x terms to cancel when the equations are added. Multiplying both sides of the second equation by negative 2 before adding will cause the x terms to cancel, producing the equation 9y = 9 or y = 1.
Please please help me
what if the equations are
3x-2y=1 (1)
4x+y=27 (2)
I'm getting x as 17 when I multiply (1)×4 and (2)×3 and y as 26 Am I right? my book says it's x is5 and y is 7 and I have an exam please help
+Nikitha Ann John Since in these two equations both x terms are positive, to make the x-terms add up to zero, you must multiply one of the two equations by a negative number. Either the four multiplier for the first equation or the three multiplier for the second equation must be negative.
how do you do x+y=3
-4x-4y=12? I am so confused on it....
If you multiply the second equation by one fourth and add the two equations, you will get the equation 0 = 6 which indicates that the system is inconsistent, having no solutions.

Try to multiply the 1st equation by 3 and 2nd equation by 2. After doing so, add both of the equations so that you can get the value of y. Finally, substitute the resulting value of y to either of the equations to find the value of x, and you're done.
