    I used the HOF in church a few years ago, and didn't have it on the church setting. Well, long story short, the church burned down that same evening. I think it was a message from you know who...

    I was looking for a reverb for my synth and everybody was telling me to get the BlueSky.
    I had a chance to compare them both and to be honest only real difference I got was the shimmer mode.
    Rest was comparable because with Tone Print Editor you can really tweak the presets to the point they are very very similar.
    And if I want a "shimmer" I simply set 3rd oscillator 2-3 octaves up :D
    HOF is aboslutely amazing and nearly 1/3 of BlueSky price.
    Very happy with it.

    i sold my HOF for a Blue Sky and i regret it. im sure if i had the time to tweak the crap of the controls i can get what i want from the Blue Sky but so far i havent been able to get the sound im looking for out of it.

    for half the price, the HOF holds it's own like a champ. I think the Strymon does sound a bit better and a bit more settings but I still think it's overpriced for what it is. I'd pay $200~225 for the blue sky.

      Ecxactly my point! To be honest ,unless one uses a pair of Bose headphones it's hard to tell a difference. The HOF is perfect for me as I'm playing SRV's Lenny or a similar clean straty sound. Add overdrive and other instruments and the comparison is less noticeable!

    The Blue Sky is thin sounding with lots of shimmer but great for experimental music stuff. The Hall of Fame is more natural and warm sounding hands down!

      @ashdelete 10 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      How funny, I think the opposite. The Blue Sky sounds so much warmer to me and the verbs have a lot more depth to the algorithms. Each to their own I guess, but for me the blue sky completely outclasses the hall of fame.

    The differences are so minuscule. I think a lot of the appeal is also the look. The Blue Sky is just nicer looking, and the HOF comparably a little boring in the design department, but sounds great also...

    I own both and each sounds great, but the HoF wins hands down. There is a slight tone loss when the Blue Sky is engaged. Also the HoF signal sounds more naturally blended with the guitars voice where as the Blue Sky feels almost like a separate track on top of the guitar tone. I think people are wow'd by the Shimmer effect which is arguably more of a novelty than actual real world reverb sounds.

  • @dougbryan1080

    Nice demonstration. I own many a reverb pedal including the Blue Sky and the HOF is my goto pedal in my main rig. It doesn't matter where it is built, TC stands behind their product line. I also have a Dreamscape and Flashback. Love them all.

  • @DigiArc
    @DigiArc 9 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Geesh folks, stop bitching about where the pedals are made. That only matters in the possible case of reliability and quality of circuit board making, soldering, etc. it's not like TC Electronic farms the reverb algorithm development to Thailand. At the end of the day you are paying for engineering and manufacturing. Whether the pedal is built in Denmark or Whogivesacrapistan, to not acknowledge that the developers at TC have some very snazzy reverbs is ludicrous! They have an illustrious history of reverb and delay design. Designed at TC and built elsewhere. Strymon are an awesome company and their stuff is top notch. Designed at Strymon and "assembled" in US with parts from elsewhere. Horses for courses. Pick what sounds the way you want to sound.

    Strymon IS a deeper pedal, but if you're in your ensemble and you want to make the most out of the tone in a "closer" front, so-to-speak, Hall of Fame is not a bad option. I think the Shimmer is really cool on the Strymon, but honest-to-god I don't know I'll ever write a song or be a part of an ensemble where I need that much going on in the overtones of my guitar. But this, of course, is just my preference.
    Don't diss the HoF when it gives you a quality-ass reverb for $150. Worth every penny. And the small one is, too!

    One thing I'm noticing is that no matter what he plays, the Blue Sky never gets in the way of his playing. It always compliments, never takes away clarity. The HoF seems to muddy his picking. I love the sound but I'm looking for a reverb that has great setting that won't get in the way of my playing. I think I'm getting the Blue Sky!

    I've owned both. I ended up keeping the Blue Sky becuase it's A LOT easier to dial in a 100% wet reverb signal. I had to program the Hall Of Fame for this but it still didn't match up as well for me. Other than that they're both great pedals.

    I think Strymon Blue sky has much headroom and deep sound than the HOF. The favourite switch is a great otion to choice 2 type reverbs when you play live. But HOF has a good sound too, very realistic. For me Blue Sky is very brillant, HOF is darker. Both have analog dry path/thru , both can be using in parallel setup, both have a stereo mode. Considering the price of these products I'll go to the HOF.

    I see the gear snobs are out in force on this one. I use a HOF for my classical guitar set up. Every time I play it someone always comments on how 'nice' the reverb sounds - and a lot of these people know a thing or two about guitars and pedals so it's not like they're talking nonsense. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people dissing the HOF would actually pick it as their favourite in a blind test. But hey.. if the Strymon costs that much money it MUST be better... Such is the way of the world.

    @vernal6944 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've had both. The blue Sky is BIG and beautiful, but not very real in my opinion. To me it seems to give an unnatural atmosphere to everything that you play that is the strymon sound, which is great if you want that BIG SKY effect to dominate everything, but the HOF is not as BIG but more neutral and natural. Combine that with the fact that the Plethora x5 is out now and you get all TC Toneprint pedals for $500.
    In the end, if you want reality and more of your own sound, go with TC. If you love the BIG SKY type sound, go with Strymon.

  • @spacemanvector32
    @spacemanvector32 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I've owned both, traded the HOF. The difference is subtle in a quick comparison, but you can hear it the more you play, obvious in modulation modes. Many won't care, it's a fricken reverb, adds ambient sounds, good enough right? TC Tone Print is cool I guess, I didn't have the time. I just want to dial something in and have it sound good, don't need help from some guitar hero signature tone to do that. Plus, the footswitch on the HOF was oddly not dependable, it would somewhat randomly, if rarely, just not work. Then it would work, maybe I got a lemon, but it actually happens around 2:08 with this demo. With tone in general the devil is in (or not in) these subtle details, not to mention the ear of the beholder. I could hear it in this demo, same as I did in front of my amp. If you are looking to just cover the ambient verb base, save the cash for something more important, go HOF. If you yearn for something beautiful across all settings, save up the cash, go Strymon.

    Just because a pedal is $399.99, does NOT make it a "professional," whoever said that on here is an ass. You HAVE TO hear them in person, the only other possibly better reverb pedal I've heard is the wampler faux spring, but I haven't A/B thrm, so who knows. But the strymon is definitely not as natural sounding as the HOF, sorry to pop your "professional" bubble!

    • @sssssssev
      @sssssssev 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the bluesky has a similar tinge to the reverb tail as the ProTools D-Verb, this pitch-rise type thing that indeed doesn't sound natural. Funny enough, I think the unnaturalness of the decay is exactly why so many people prefer it, people mostly think of these as simply effects, not as some type of realism-simulations. Strymon seems to be a bit synth like and the HoF seems to be more natural, different worlds altogether. I'm thinking of going for the HoF. Since I'll mostly be using it for jazzy clean sounds, I'd rather go for a reverb that is pretty natural sounding.

    • @kustomhooligans
      @kustomhooligans 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I owned 13 reverb pedals and units and had just about every high end reverb pedal all at once and the Hall of fame was the most natural sounding, rhe Van Amps reverb units are also great. I didn't think that that's why people make like them, because they don't sound natural, that's a goo point!

      @SuperFreedomRock1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As others have said here, I think the HOF is more organic and warm, the Strymon has more of a fabricated/experimental, thin sound. So "better" is purely an opinion or preference, not something based on or justified by the price difference.

    • @NotUrBiz
      @NotUrBiz 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      SuperFreedomRock The Strymon uses top-flight analog input and outputs, and I can't think of a single pro who would say it sounds "thin" or "fabricated". Hands-down a better and much more versatile reverb. If you can't afford a Strymon, the HOF would be a great pedal, but it isn't in the same league. But I get it, most people can't afford to pay that much for a pedal. When you get older, you'll be able to afford better equipment. I bought both. I use the HOF for playing regular gigs, and use the Strymon with my VOX 50th Anniversary solid cabinet AC15H1TVL for all recording.

The descent is very unique but is more limited (no spring or plate modes) in variety but the hall of fame is more "normal" in my opinion. The descent sounds like your in a huge cavern. Hof is more like a cathedral sound.

    I must be in the minority here, but the HoF is much nicer (natural sounding) to my ears. There's something about the Blue Sky that I just don't warm to, possibly that it's a hyped sound and not as natural. I do use TC M3000 in the studio so perhaps that's why - the TC sound.

      That's total crap man,either your guitar or amps is shittie but BlueSky sounds wamer ,deeper and larger than life.HOF is a crappy reverb,mushy sounding there's no detail to the reverbs.Cheap way to go if you're on a budget but for recording I'll always use the BlueSky and BigSky.

      hey. what do you think would be the best reverb of them all? i had my eyes on the strymon flint, but now seeing these two i'm thinking again. and keeping in mind you noticed about the bluesky i'm even more confused. ^^ thanks

    • @RED_indiemusic
      @RED_indiemusic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Suo Mynona IMPO, there is no greatest reverb pedal of them all. A reverb pedal is only great for the musician if it produces the sound to his/her liking. There will always be a pedal that will have more features than the other. However, the one pedal with less features may just sound as good as the other pedal with the most features. So it all depends on the sound you are looking for. HTH.

    • @suomynona1980
      @suomynona1980 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah I was quick to throw a stupid question... I honestly believe the same thing. actually the thing that I want out from my reverb is to be as real and as warm sounding possible. that's why I tend to like the Flint a bit more, it's a bit more darker specially on the 80's setting. thanks for your coo reply, mate!

    The biggest difference is the most obvious -- THE PRICE!!! The HOF is way, way, Way more affordable than the overpriced Strymon. Just bought an HOF for $80. I can get 2 more pedals for what the Strymon Costs. In fact, I got the "Old Blood Noise "Reverb as well. It has some unique and wild features that are truly inspiring. Now, combine the cost of those 2 pedals and I have spent $250. So I have $50 left to add another pedal. Oh Yes, I can get a decent Distortion , overdrive or boost pedal for that. -- Wait a minute; Let me back up, Just saw the Strymon for $240 ($225 + $15shipping) on Reverb. My point is this -- Yes Strymons are nice and they look good on a board, but why copy everyone else (Unless you are into that)? Be original and be frugal. That just my opinion and opinions are like (censored), everybody has one (or two, or 3, or...)! Take Care!

    HOF, best reverb pedal for the money, ask Robben Ford! Strymon, best reverb pedal period but you will pay for it. Compare the Strymon to a Lexicon PCM90 rack mount reverb, that would be a challenge!

      Mmmm no,don't think so.I have the bluesy and the immerse.The immerse is just as good as the BlueSky ,just different algorithms.IMO they stay on one level when it comes to quality of sounds and versatility.No one of them is better or worse than the other,just two different mighty monster reverberators.Man when I stack the bluesy with the immerse in my stereo amp setup,oh man I'm in heaven.

    Strymon seems consistently attentive to giving people the power to tweak. Their Time Line box is a definite a must but this reverb kinda challenges my favorite - the EH Cathedral [which is good for instant variety and useable presets]. TC is hard working and hold them in good favor - 'have a voice pedal from them.

    Strymon if you want the Ambient aka Robin Guthrie/Eno modulated verb...It sounds pretty effortless for that application.The HOF is a bit grainier but still good for more normal verb as mentioned in a post and it is less money if your needs are not reverb up front

    I own the HOF but I feel like the blue sky has more ways of controlling what sort of settings you want. The presets on the HOF and the toneprint are cool and all, but I feel as though the blue sky is a tad beefier.

    I love how BlueSky sounds, but after buying a HOF 2, I don't really think i would invest a few more dollars to buy a Bluesky. HOF has a lot of reverbs types on tone print App, and a lot of settings opition on Tone print Software, i think the only pedal that would exceed HOF2 that much, is the BigSky... but you know the price. So yeah, HOF is not that beautiful like BS, but it's the best opition for the price.

    I have no desire to get into a war. I like the amount of control that the Blue Sky gives and I like the amount of "air" in the sound. Someone else described that "air" as cold. To each their own. I preferred the Strymon.

    Strymon Blue Sky! …I've A/B'd both against a Fender Twin's Reverb, and the HOF just falls flat. In a loud mix, you might not even notice the difference or even care but for effects purposes, Strymon Blue Sky is the best reverb pedal I've come across.
