(Without possums., Diseases and deadly viruses .would take over and the human race would have a serious issue. So even though PEOPLE see some of GOD'S creatures (GROSS). They are ESSENTIAL to the balance of living. And control of diseases .
They're absolutely necessary and absolutely beautiful creatures. My GF saved one as a baby, it grew up to be the sweetest little critter ever. He showes affection and they're really curious and super chill. 1 can eat like 5,000 ticks a season!! Very handy little fellas! 👍🏼😁
Opossums are the best! We have a gang of them at our house. The main one I’ve been seeing every night, this year, I named Scrappy. The first night he showed up, he was missing his scalp and half his tail. He has made a full recovery and is as healthy as can be. He eats very well, I can tell you that.
She’s probably looking for food, we fed our wild ones cat food and they all thrived after a winter here in Georgia where food was low…I fed a family of them, they were skinny and when they left, they were all plumper! I’d feed them again anytime! Respect them😎
Same up here in WA. I don't feed them, but I may as well be feeling them. They come to eat my cat's food if I put dry food out at night. I usually put canned food out in the evening because the opossum and raccoons don't seem to like it. This cat was a stray,he didn't want to come inside. I tried to give him a bath once. 😂 I put on a Carhart work jacket and some leather gloves,and I still couldn't do it. As long as he's outside, he's a nice kitty.
I had a baby opossum, he grew up and let him go in my back yard.... Now he lives under our shed and eats slugs and bugs out of our garden..... Opossums are now my Spirit Animal 🥰👍

Hope you finally got past the soft, loving comments---which I'm sure she appreciated----and fed her almost any food in your fridge or pantry. The same foods that are nutritious and favored by humans are appreciated by a mama 'possum with hungry mouths to feed. Also, she will rid your patio, drainage saucers and yard of slugs, etc. She's quite the gentle, yet, competent helper if afforded the opportunity and treated kindly. Blessings.
If you see them in the daytime, then food is scarce and she's hungry. Give them cat food and water. I adore possums, they keep the world clean or slugs, insects, roaches, mice, rats, etc. and their body temp is too low to carry rabies. I feed them at night and have a security camera to watch them, I just love these peaceful creatures! They're so beneficial. ♥

We've demolished the natural habitats of sooooo many animals and it's our responsibility to make those little things available in my opinion! I love this woman who filmed this too! So sweet!
They always have eight I feed a possum for two years she was pure white the first spring she came to me with eight of the cutest little baby possums you ever seen I feed them to then they all grew up

Very amazingly cool critter.. So misunderstood.. Definitely a friend to us... I help them when I can... I sure would like to raise one of those babies but,, opossums only live 5 years max and I'm not emotionally strong enough to lose anymore furry friends 🤗

She must trust you - she came to you for food because they typically don't come out during the daytime unless food is scarce at night. I hope you fed her. Cat food is great, and water of course. Poor little mama. ♥
I am in the UK and unfortunately we dont have these quirky little munchkins. If i spotted one in my garden i would be researching what they liked to eat so I could get them to come back again. All those little mouths to feed as well 😁❤️
I've rescued several opossums that could not be rehabilitated. People I knew who thought they were gross or that there was something weird about me raising them all ended up coming around after interacting and holding them. Opossums are extremely sensitive. If they can't get the food they need or warm shelter they get stressed out. When they are stressed they lose their hair, get blotches on their body, and look absolutely rabbid, but they are just suffering from stress. As the years pass I see the tide turning in a positive way for the possums, so many positive and protective comments on here! Judging a sentient being's value on whether one finds them cute or ugly etc is so basic it's sad.

YES!!!! ♥ I leave cat food and water on my back porch and I see at least 5-6 come to eat nightly. They're so peaceful and beneficial. I adore them. ♥

They love cat food. And black sunflower seeds. The ones here seem to bulk up on both. Honestly though, they eat just about anything.
