6:05 looks so much like an Edward Hopper painting that I actually thought you were joking when you said you took that PHOTO... Literally had to rewind it and look at it again. It's incredible.
What are the most memorable photo we love to look at ? The ones we took with cheap cameras like a 110 camera or the one that takes the blue flash cube.
My partner and I took a photography road trip there just last weekend!! Took my Canon AL-1 and shot some Ilford 200 and phoenix 200. Beautiful place to shoot. Coming from the Bay Area. Thanks for the video!
I've got an Olympus AF-10 QD and most of the functions are broken but its been everywhere with me. Now im always strapped and ready for some awful photos to be taken 👌
It's easy to get G.A.S. or have point-and-shoot envy whenever a cool compact film camera is highlighted and reviewed. But no matter how many I see or use myself, I always come back to just how great the Olympus XA is. Yeah, it's a manual focus rangefinder, but it's easy to use, has an accurate light meter, and super sharp lens with character. It's no accident that two of the three prints hanging on my walls at home were shot with my XA.
I bought a Fuji Natura Black, it was new old stock in box…it even had the original roll of film the camera came with. The camera was delightful, and then the plastic of the body just started cracking and crumbling because it was old and brittle (and very thin). So I spent a lot of money on possibly the best specimen available and it literally fell apart. So I think cheap is probably the right way to go for the future.
Shout-out to the cheap point-and-shoot! Thanks for inspiring me to buy another Vivitar PZ7000 to replace the three on my broken camera shelf that got each one drop of water on them!
I agree, the best way to test cameras is to photograph toilettes... I have a Chinon Belami and it works very well. This think of pocketables follows fashion more than anything else.Luís. Barcelona.Spain.
I have a Minolta AF talker that I got for $8. Fixed 35mm F2.8 lens with a manual ISO dial from 25 to 1000 that can be used in a way as exposure compensation. The camera is ugly as hell but it’s fun and the camera actually talks to me. One of my favorite cameras.
I think on this one, same as other p&s olympuses, if you hold the flash and timer buttons at the same time it switches to spot metering. FYI your focus-recompose tryouts ;)
Haha, I just sent in a roll from 15 years ago and am squeamish someone is seeing whats on it before me. I'm back to shooting my nikon from 55 years ago with it's dear zeiss lenses, all because of your channel. Thanks!
This is a great lil camera! I panic-bought one after my Contax TVS shit the bed 4 days before I was going on a trip to London, and I shot it the entire trip without testing it beforehand. Thankfully everything turned out great, but that I would not recommend doing that 😂
Got a Nikon L35AD3 for $97 USD. Doesn’t have ISO control (I use ISO stickers as I only shoot ColorPlus 200 at 100) but the IQ is incredible and easy to use as its fully automated.
The Nikon One Touches are seriously underrated. And I love the Minolta Freedom Zoom Explorer is one of my favs, of course I am biased because I love Minolta. ❤
I have an Mju1 since it was new, but use it quite rare these days, mostly course of lack of control. However, I do have a total control over my Olympus 35RC, which i acquired recently (for €50 mind you). That camera stays with me all the time. And yeah, no flimsy battery doors with that one. And it also works without batteries. Just saying... 😇
I have a pile of 35mm SLRs and pocket cams. Only an Olympus runs like an Olympus. My OM1 is my absolute go to, please do a video on one! The range of Zuiko glass is simply incredible.
My first point and shoot was a Fuji DL-27o Zoom. The autofocus was a little janky - and chromatic aberration apparent - but it was decent. There’s definitely a vanity in wanting better, but at the same time I realised they could be noisy ass cameras - and using flash indoors makes it look older too - and I’m not a particular fan of that look.
I found one of those Minolta Freedom Zoom Explorers in a thrift shop for 50 cents a few years back. The lens is way better than it has any right to be, and the date function is charming. If only I could find batteries and film as cheap as the camera.
I have the sister version of this, af-1 mini infinity quartz date. It's my favourite p&s by far. It's tiny. It's weather sealed, or was when it was new. Wouldn't trust that anymore. The lens is amazing. Takes normal AA batteries. The one thing that is wrong with it is the battery door. It is busted the same as yours. I dont think any of these olympus have intact one. Even if it was in a display case for decades the door probably spontaneously brakes.
I have my Olympus Stylus 120 that I still haven't finished the roll I loaded it with. I need to do that. I've been shooting way more video for my channel. I have a wedding coming up where the bride wants it shot on 35mm film. So at least I have a paid gig. I won't be using the Olympus, however. Good episode, man.
i got a canon sure shot 115u for $50 off eBay and it slaps it managed to capture northern lights with its auto settings when i turned off flash its wild
Honestly people sleep on minolta glass, I have an srt101 with a 50mm mc rokkor lense. The thing is so unreasonably sharp and it renders colours in a very kind of satisfying soft way. I have a pentax spotmatic and its 55mm doesnt even come close (yes I am aware the coatings in the pentax glass can effect this)
I have a unit very similar to this. The photos were great, unfortunately the electronics died. Every time I turn it on it cycles the lense in and out, forever. Too bad.
SALUTATIONS GOOD SIR I HAVE JUST recently attained a 35mm slr the Nikkorrmat EL one slight inconvenience the shutter cutains are permanently stuck at 1/1000 lord knows why I don’t know what to do🐙Pweese help(also I bought for like close to nothing body only so it is what it is… also if you don’t have a solution what Film speed should I buy to compensate this incredibly minor inconvenience )
Really, just ask your parents or grandparents if they've got a camera sitting around. That's how I got my modest Olympus Infinity Zoom 80, still rocking it
-p.s. If double exposure is a feature you desire, just buy an old TLR that still requires cocking the shutter manually and proceed to forget to advance your film. You'll have all the double and triples your heart could ever desire.
May I submit for your consideration the Pentax PC35AF which is definitely cheaper than $50 and comes with features such as a +1.5 button, half-press exposure and focus lock, manual ISO, and f2.8 lens
Evil Jason be like “I like this photo I took”
Evil Jason: "Why I edit my scene and not my scans, long live the empire."
I own that Minolta so thank you for contributing to my retirement fund by talking about it

Actually! He wasn't kidding, it truly is a fucking banger. SO cool

Its already very expensive
Olympus is already dead now tho lol

I had a mju but thanks to you I ended up buying a minolta explorer autozoom panorama multiexpose data quartz for its versatility and good results
Your Minolta zoom video helped convince me to cop one couple months ago and it's been a dream to use!
This guy cracks me up, your brutal honesty is admirable don't ever change
OLYMPUS BOYZZZ 4 LIFEEE
Monica shooting some straight up bangers!
she's ghost-photographed most of Jason's portfolio shots.

6:06 definitely channeling the Edward Hopper with this one
The washroom of your dreams with the film stock of your nightmares. The one that got away 🎞️
Thank you, Squarespace, for reminding Jason to push out a video every now and then, regardless how shit his photos happen to be.
Finally a scratch for the Point N Shoot itch
You should get that checked out
@ apparently the itch isn’t real it’s all in my head
Monica’s photography skills improved. Love that you also showing her photos in the video

The old Konica I have laying around, about 30€ last time I checked, has the +1.5 button
the photo at 6:06 is one of the most painting looking photos ive ever seen
I stayed at that hotel once. The person that did all the signs for the 24 hour dinner has a hand painting signs TH-cam account and it is awesome!
I shot the most rolls with my AF-1 Mini. It has a special place in my heart!
That "banger' at 6:06 makes me think of an Edward Hopper painting. Nicely done!
Amazing- as always man. Informitive and killer dry delivery

Minoltas are the hidden gem of vintage cameras! So good and so cheap 🤫
Also, certain cheap Canon p&s do remember the flash setting because of the mechanical switch
I owned a couple of Olympus Stylus cameras in the 90s. Really sharp lens and very compact, but their motors did eventually seize up.
Must be the season for this, I just picked up a point and shoot (Pentax zoom-60X) from an "antique" store like 3 days ago for $8 lol
Haha, I just sent in a roll from 15 years ago and am squeamish someone is seeing whats on it before me.

Standard operating procedure with these - DX code sticker with CN film to add 1 stop to everything 😂
Imagine waiting for the bathroom and hearing a camera snap and random flashes 😂

I literally just bought an olympus mju off ebay for $20. Great timing

@@404Anymouse Yep! It came out in 1997 so it's Y2K compliant. Year goes all the way to 9999.

I swear Jason takes at least half of square spaces annual advertising budget.
i want my photography with more buttons and dials and i want it to be significantly harder than normal photography
The shots I got from a Canon Autoboy 4 (the basic one with f4.5) were fantastic
Also I’ve had the Minolta freedom/Riva Zoom 110, 115 and they’re sweet. The Ricoh Shotmaster has multiple exposure mode for cool shots

What did you shoot the footage in the hotel with? That all looks fantastic. I’m going to guess something full frame like a Sony A7 and a 35mm lens
Hottest man alive climbs Mount Olympus and plants the flag of sunny California.

4:3 on youtube? You don't see that aspect ratio much these days. Personally I love it.
