looking for graveyard hate? Night soil is a dirty card. 2 mana enchantment with 1 and exile 2 creatures from a single graveyard: make a 1/1 saproling. It's dirty because the exiling is part of the cost. It doesn't target and the exiling portion can't be responded to for that reason
Woo! Mirror-Mad Phantasm! Thanks for giving it a shout out! Super fun and strong too. And there's always the small chance that you accidentally deck yourself if it ends up on the bottom of your deck. Saw this happen to a friend once when they borrowed my deck and it was so funny!
An overlooked part on Mirror-Mad Phantasm is that it shuffles the Phantasm into it's "owners" library. It's an achievement unlocked wincon in my Zevlor deck to use Sakashima's Will to steal a creature from each opponent, turn them all into the Phantasm and then use that ability to mill each opponent.
Fun combo: create a ttoken copy of mirror mad phanasm and activate the token to put your wholeblibrary into your graveyard and win with a laboratory maniac effect
I have a deck built around Mirror-Mad Phantasm. It's basically just a slower Hermit Druid deck. I run a bunch of clones to copy phantasm so I can mill myself out and Dread Return Lab Man and friends
Love Mirror-Mad Phantasm. I built a Jeskai Chaos Aura deck around Ruhan of the Fomori that was designed to self mill myself with Phantasm, then cast or flashback (with Recoup) a huge Aura reanimate spell to bring all my Auras back at once lol.
The problem with lavaball is that the ramping with like rampant growths/cultivates usually happen between turn 2-4. Dryad of ilisian growth or azusa dumps those lands earlier before you can really get to 5 mana unless you’re playing a landfall deck, you’re really banking on late game fetchlands
Please talk about Dredge the Mire! It's one of my favorite mass reanimate spells. It's almost always good. If they give you junk, you can use them as chump blockers or sacrifice fodder.
Demon of Dark Schemes is a house in my Shadowborn Apostles deck. Love the fact I have a mini board wipe at instant speed if I ever need it against a token deck
Not to be all "Lol, EDH players don't play to win," but honestly I'd say don't cast Lavaball trap off a fetch or evolving wilds unless I guess they're doing it for landfall triggers or maybe if you're targeting somebody else's lands. Because like, I know it's optimal to do it right before I untap, I was doing it on my turn out of respect for the table's time.
I have a deck with Lavaball Trap in it. It is my Lhurgoyf Tribal deck, and it runs all of the Wildfire-style cards. Need LOTS of things in graveyards! Demon of Dark Schemes just screams "Tooth and Nail me into play WITH Massacre Wurm!" I swear that I saw Sigil Captain in Standard, once upon a time. Not sure what deck I can put it in at the moment. Goat Tribal! I remember seeing a combo deck with Mirror-Mad Phantasm a LONG time ago. Can't remember anything about it though.
Two favorites on the list. Stormwild Capridor was my favorite card from Ikoria. Had it in a deck filled with damage-to-all spells, and creatures either immune to, or benefits from those damage spells. It’s really fun. Mirror-Mad Phantasm is a funny engine in Muldrotha.
Thank you for all your content. I really enjoy watching your videos. I wanted to suggest a card for underplayed. I hope you havent mentioned it before but I think Dark Dabbling could be really good. I built Tor Wauki and found that card in my bulk box. Haven’t got to play it yet. Even outside of a spellslinger deck I think the spell mastery would be easily achieved. Any mono black deck or black and X deck that isn’t white or blue should consider the card.
i used to see mirror mad phantasm in edh tables a lot back when i started so clearly its not played like it uset to be but i always know that card is verey power ps how i saw it used is with the thassa's oracle (wasn't made at the time)/Laboratory manaic/Jace, Weilder of mysteries combos
Mirror-Mad Phantasm would be a neat include in an The Ancient One deck, mill it into your graveyard, play a Dread Return or something, pay the 2, now you're milling a ton
Mirror-Mad Phantasm is basically a wincon in my Slogurk deck. With Gaea's Blessing it lets me mill my entire library several times a turn making Slogurk friggin HUGE. Gonna hunt for a Capridor for my Naya board-burn deck as another way of taking people out.
I think sigil Captain is great! I wish I would have found it sooner, but I think it’s just hard to search for. A rhino, a soldier in selesnya, and beyond searching for counters, I don’t know how I would have ever found this on scryfall. I don’t go around searching for cards that have 1/1 in their rules text. Very cool.
Another home for Mirror-Mad Phantasm is in the Bruna voltron deck! Dump a bunch of auras in the graveyard when she's about to attack and you can one shot someone.
My brother runs Sigil Captain in his Emmara, Soul of the Accord deck. I forgot how I came across the card and gave it to him but yeah pretty neat card.
Sigil Captain has proven to be a PHENOMENAL card in several of my decks. Instant pump on my tokens and any kind of counter doubler, proliferate, or counter transfer card just boosts this. This card does work. I have it in my Hazezon, Shaper of Sands and when both it, and my Knight of New Alara card hit the board, wow.
I love mirror-mad phantasm in my Ludevic, Necrogenius deck. He become a copy of this creature and use it's ability to mill my entire library (the rules about that is actually quite cool), so i can ressurect a labman or if i have jace in play, i just win next time i should draw a card. And if i don't use him to win what way he's still a great selfmill so i can make a fun ludevic creature. And yes i know that a thassas oracle would be a better wincon, but I like giving my opponents a chance to interact with me and i want it to be less of a safe option, otherwise that would be how i win 99% of my games with the deck.
@@dariocampanella7992 Yeah it's hilarious. and the rules interaction is a bit funny, when you exile the phantasm to ludevic and use it's ability, the card will try and find Olag, Ludevic's Hubris (the name of the backside) in your library, but when your commander is in your library only the frontside exists so the ability just mills your entire deck (then you can put your commander back in to the command zone if you don't want him in your library).
Yoo, that mirror mad phantasm is going into my Grolnok, the Omnivore deck for sure. The Sigil Rhino was something i considered putting into my Ghave, Guru of Spores deck, but the thing is, his ability to create tokens hasnt usually wound up being a massive token generator for me, its better to use to instant generate blockers, or to make sackable creatures, etc. never really winds up popping off and making a butt load. There's one game where i had a setup that allowed me to go wide with his ability, but its not a guaranteed thing that youll have a massive number of tokens coming in each turn. At least in the way i built it. So I figured it'd be better to replace Sigil Rhino with that is more universal and adds +1/1s to all my creatures instead, not just tokens.
@@NoTengoIdeaGuey too good - I started running Leyline of Anticipation and Vernal Equinox so I can get even more free casts lol free counterspells wasn't enough
Love Demon of Dark Schemes; had it in my Gonti deck for years and only recently replaced it. Massacre Wurm is generally better, yes, but the utility of instant speed reanimation is so good.
cards like blood seeker and suture priest always make huge impact in my games, prevents people from going super wide or looping creatures and flickering. very underrated IMO could you give those a shout sometime?
Hold up. Mirror Mad Phantasm would need unique shuffling and cutting rules once gifted and activated. People use different colored card sleeves which means if someone cuts, namely an opponent, they can cut _straight to_ the Mirror Mad Phantasm or inversely find a way to cut which puts Mirror Mad Phantasm on the bottom of the library. This small, subtle problem removes the potential for randomization, ultimately creating a kill-on-activation if the group is competitive enough as who wouldn't choose to find the one color sleeve that is off and "cut" in a way that puts that card specifically on the bottom just to bump out a potentially strong player on draw?
Lava all trap is definitely more of a meta call. If people are playing problem lands, then maybe it is acceptable. I see pods that just won’t want to see that second land being destroyed. Sure, punishing land ramp is nice. But not everyone at the table will be doing that.
Mirror-Mad phantasm might be the best BUDGET self-mill (Divining Witch is better if you plan to deck out)... but otherwise, he must not know about Pact & Consultation.
I would play a mountain over lavaball trap. It's actually hilarious that spending 5 mana to cast a card that doesn't actually wipe the board is the *best* possible outcome for this card. Spending 8 mana to do it is downright awful, and it is quite possible that I could spend a whole turn cycle holding up 5 mana only to not actually be able to cast it. There are way less depressing ways to skip my turn in commander.
Im sry but noone i have seen in the past like 10 yrs have cracked their fetches on their turn after like turn 2 or 3. Most people i know crack on the eot of someone elses turn
sigil captain is great for a token deck but the degenerate aristocrat player i am doesn't want my tokens being more than 1/1 otherwise i can't clamp them 😂

Yeah Night Soil is great. I found it while looking up cards that made Saprolings.
Yeah it’s fantastic in Cadira, Chatterfang and plenty of other token based decks!
Ew wtf. Definitely gonna have to grab one but still. Ew.
Fallen Empires wasn't a total waste! 😂

Mirror mad phantasm is the most fun and sometimes most powerful self-mill card . Amazing in Muldrotha, been using it for yearss

I play Demon of dark schemes in my Henzie deck and it's really good like you say !
Stormwild capridor is in my Firesong and Sunspeaker deck and it gets crazy, I've had games with it at 42/45 or even higher
Mirror mirage or nexrotic ooze that phantom to mill yourself out, if only blue had ways to win the game with an empty library

Mirror mad was fantastic in my Lier flashback deck!
i run demon of dark schemes and massacre wurm in my yarok etb deck to help level the field.
“You find some prisoners” is such a great card, I use it to blowup soul rings or to not miss a land drop/steal something. It’s so fun and super cheap.
Stormwide Capridor would be awesome in a boros aikido deck
Would be legendary on a firesong and sunspeaker deck
Activate Mirror man's ability, hold priority, bounce/flicker mirror-mad out, mill whole library? Not sure if that would work.
what happens if you clone your mirror-mad phantasm? would the clone mill out your whole Library?
Demon of Dank Memes is a house in any aristocrats deck. Awesome value.
sigil captain in a token built sovereign okinec deck could be great.
Oh man that phantasm in a muldrotha deck with an elvish piper/howlpack piper… 4 mana mill more! Lol
dude mirror mad would go nuts in a grolnok deck with an alt wincon like jace wielder of mysteries or something
I’ve looked at all of these cards before haha. If you make a copy of Mirror Mad Phantasm you can just dump your whole library
i LOVE demon of dark schemes!! this card goes so hard
Mirror-Mad Phantasm copied with a doppelganger will mill yor entire library. I'm sure that could be useful somehow.
Mirror-Mad phantasm might be the best BUDGET self-mill (Divining Witch is better if you plan to deck out)... but otherwise, he must not know about Pact & Consultation.
Mirror-mad Phantasm is one of the best ways to self-mill in the entire format. I wouldn’t call it niche at all.
id play sigil captain for the art alone
i just put Capridor in a deck the other day! its a self-inflicted non-combat damage deck, very silly
bro that mirror mad phantasm is broken with soul cleaver cause you can keep milling yourself and keep boosting that one creature with soul cleaver
Mirror mad phantasm is broken in slogurk

mizzium mortars is in 35000 decks. i guess some people think 4 dmg is pretty good.
also leaving mana up in commander is a great gameplan. if you tap out on every turn you're just giving your opponents freebies.
Volcanic offering is much better than lavaball trap. Used to be a staple of mine.
it is. also much cheaper than it used to be.
Hey! A shout-out to my boys Firesong and Sunspeaker!
i dont crack my fetch lands until my opponents turn just so i can cut off their train of thought in the middle of their combo
Wow putting lava ball in kalamax
Im sry but noone i have seen in the past like 10 yrs have cracked their fetches on their turn after like turn 2 or 3. Most people i know crack on the eot of someone elses turn

sigil captain is great for a token deck but the degenerate aristocrat player i am doesn't want my tokens being more than 1/1 otherwise i can't clamp them 😂
