I always enjoyed the singing of Shrutiji for very clear and pleasant rendering of ragas. She is like old timers who will enjoy singing than try to go for pleasing audience. I heard her number of times. First time it was in a small hall near Chembur Garden and later at other places including at New Jersey. It was same old magic. Incidentally very slight nasal tinge makes her voice unique and easily identifiable.
For last two decades, I am hearing Vidushi Sadolikar. Great fluidity, control over swars and spectacular thehran. At least two of her renditions, one in Nayaki Kanara(The little Buddha) and the other in Kaunsi Kanhara are going to eternal archives of Hindustani classical. In 2020, I think she hasn't got the fame she deserved. Why ? Unlike Gaansaraswati, she doesn't get self-absorbed during long renditions, lifting the audience along with her. Critics may note that she prefers to sing short khayals, never going beyond 30 minutes, with minimum alaap and stunted vilambit. She feels better singing 2-3 ragas immaculately in any concert, dwelling more in bhajans or tappas or khayal in madhyalaya or drut only. I appreciate her brilliance but unlike Kishoriji she never overwhelms.
Also, not everyone can understand "shastriya sangeet". Some people who have learnt a little might be able to understand " shastriya Sangeet".. But most people are common people and can understand bhajans, abhangs, shloks, and maybe the madhyalay or drut bandishes or khayals because these are of medium or fast tempo. But it takes little bit more effort to understand other compositions in Hindustani music like Vilambit, dhrupad, dhamar, tgrivat, chathurang, tappa, thumri, chaithi, kajri, jhoola,
wow mam itni sadhi hui awaz hai apki bht lucky h hm Jo apko live sunne ka hmesha mouka milta hai hme..aur apki student bnne ka awasar Mila...apko apni vc k roop me pakar
Shruthiji is an exponent of the jaipur atrauli gharana. She is the same gharana as ganatapaswini mogubai kurdikar, garnasaraseathi kishori amonkar, and pundita ashwini bhide dheshpande. the jaipur atrauli gharana is known for not singing sargams and tihais, their compositions are in theental, ada chautal, rupakthal, jhapthal, they sing what are called mixed or jod ragas which no other gharana sings such as nat kamod, bihagada, and sampoorna malkauns etc.. shruthiji's uniqueness is that she likes to present a raga is a quite crisp and concise form. she does not like to drag it on forever.
yes.they both belong to jaipur atrauli, sometimes called just jaipur gharana founded by ustad alladiya khan.shruti sadolikar through her father and ustad gulubhai jasdanwala who were students of ustad alladiya khan and kishori amonkar through her mother mogubai kurdikar who was a student of ustad haider khan.
charming indeed ,but i feel grandest is perhaps KISHORI AMONKAR shoonnya ji has given a list of many grand dames in his post, but SHE is a category apart. i mean no disrespect to any great artist; am only mentioning my personal inclination i could be wrong.!! comparisonsare no doubt odious MALINI RAJURKAR ALSO DESERVES TO BE MENTIONED thuryina ji has a trained ear and discerning taste . He deserves congratulations for recognizing this great voice my respectful regards
I will add many more names to this list of Grand Dames! Most prominently missing ones are: Siddheswari Devi, Lata Mangeshkar (for classical ! search for "Lata Live Malkauns" on YT), Mogubai Kurdikar, Shubha Mudgal, Prabha Atre, Begum Akhtar, Shobha Gurtu, Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Veena Sahasrabuddhe
Can someone please tell me what taal the vilambit is in? usually jaipur atrauli gharana singers usually sing vilambit in teental or in ada chautal which is a 14 beat taal. thanx
do u have Saint Manik Prabhu's abhangs sung by Shruti Sadolikar-Katkar. I misplaced the cassete which I bought at Humnabad near Gulbarga. Its not available in market.
Yes. pundita malini rajurkar is of gwalior gharana and she is a master at singing many forms of hindustani music such as: thumri, dadra, tappa, kajri, chaithi, tarana, bhajan etc...
Many of these forms are rarely heard in hindustani recitals today. the most common forms that are heard in a hindustani recital today besides "khayal" are thumri, dadra, and tarana
Just a food for Thought - There is no other artist other than Kishori Amonkar whose First Note 'SA' Could be enough to Transport the Audience to the Heavens... that didnt happen just by Fluke, It is took years and years and years and more years of Hours and Hours of Sadhana, Dedication and Worshipping her Art, Unless YOU have done that YOU absolutely have NO RIGHT TO BADMOUTH SUCH GREAT LEGENDS,
My dear Kishoritaai was short tempered but not an egotist... I can say this because I have met her in person. She hated people who asked nonsense just to show their association with her music. But she deserved even more wide reach. I personally feel that she was not given appreciation for her art by many people.
I think kishoritai said in a youtube interview that "shastriya sangeet" is equivalent to doing pooja. rendering each note properly in a particular raag takes "sadhana" and patience. All of this comes from the lord. So when people show disrespect to such a high form of art, she does not like it. She has said that shashtriya sangeet is not a form of entertainment. shastriya sangeet is a form of prayer, meditation etc..
@jayant akolekar before you judge an artist, please know their whole story. ganathapaswini mogubai kurikar, the mother of ganasaraswathi kishori amonkar learnt shastriya sangeet under very hard circumstances. mogubai kurdikar she lost her mother at a very young age, but was raised with lots of love by her aunt snd put for kathsk classes, singing classes, and even joined a traveling natak company to help over come the the grief of loosing her mother. her aunt was advised to take mogubai for treatment to sangli. there one day when mogubai was practicing singing there they met ustad allaudiya khan who was memorized by her singing. she got scared and stopped singing but he encouraged her to continue yo kerp singing and he accepted her as his studrnt right then and there and started teaching her. the senior studrnts of allaudiya khan came to know of this and they were not happy. they wanted him to only teach them and they were jealous of mogubai. so she had to stop lessons with ustad alluadiya khan and find another guru of the agra gharana and learn. the agra gharana guru said that he would teach her if she would perform the thread tying ceremony. and she did that with him. but he fell ill shortly afterwards and he told her to learn from his brother. mogubai kurdikar did not like being shifted from guru to guru. when alaudiya khan heard about this he said to stop the lessons and to come back and start learning from him. again senior students of allaudiya khan started giving mogubhai kurdikar trouble until she gave several tholas of her gold as guru dakshina to allaudiya khan and that krpt them quiet and she was his shishye until his demise. mogubai kurdikar also had family pressures to deal with. she had become a young widow and she had three young children to bring up ganasaraswathi kishori amonkar was the eldest of three children. so she had to accept concerts and performances in whatever form they came: she had to ride in third class rail to get to a performance, she would be paid less for a performance because she was a lady artist, she had to stay in someone's house, no hotel was arranged for her, she had to arrange her own transportation to get herself to and from the railway station to the concert hall and to the person's residence. so that is why if kishoritai is a little bit hard on people, people need to understand why. her mother has had a very hard life. can you blame her?
He is saying "Hope for the Future". I believe it means she is the one who can keep the Lamp of Pure Ghee lighted as against the Dalda which is all around!

yes. it is good to keep it short and sweet and that is shruthiji's style.

Could you, please, tell me if Shruti Sadolikar and Kishori Amonkar belong to the same garana?. thank you beforehand.
carlos Martínez yes. ganasaraswathi kishori amonkar and pundita shruthi sadolikar khatkar belong to the jaipur atrauli gharana
Another famous singer who belongs to the jaipur atrauli gharana is pundita ashwini bhide despande
And another famous singer of jaipur atrauli gharana is ganathapaswini mogubai kurdikar, the mother of ganasaraswathi kishori amonkar
And malini rajurkar....
Yes. pundita malini rajurkar is of gwalior gharana and she is a master at singing many forms of hindustani music such as: thumri, dadra, tappa, kajri, chaithi, tarana, bhajan etc...
Many of these forms are rarely heard in hindustani recitals today. the most common forms that are heard in a hindustani recital today besides "khayal" are thumri, dadra, and tarana
Pundita malini rajurkar is also proficient in singing trivat and chathurang.
Pundita malini rajurkar has a wide range of repertoire
My personal observation on Kishori Amonkar- She is highly egoist and temperamental artist. She got a fame more than she deserved.
This is not a place to badmouth great artists.

Future? She is already great. She is 65. So why talk about future?
