    I am almost embarrassed to admit how much my mind was blown by the idea of using PanPastel to transfer a drawing instead of graphite! Brilliant!😲

      It's really a life saver! I've had so many issues doing it with transfer paper, and when you use Pan pastels you can choose a colour that matches your piece so it blends in 😊

    Thank you very much Kirsty .I'm going to register as a patreon because I find the demos I've seen here on TH-cam very inspiring. I am not a beginner but what you do is totally my style and I think I can learn a lot from you

      Thankyou, I appreciate it 😊
      Welcome to Patreon!
      I hope you find Patreon useful, as I don't always do the typical "beginner subjects"... I pick all sorts of animals, landscapes etc but I give instructions that a beginner can also follow along with
      So hopefully that will help everyone, no matter where they are on their art journey 😊

    some very helpful tips for beginners but also a helpful reminder for people that have used pastels in the past :)

    All good advice, thanks. Here are a few comments:
    About Tip 1: I prefer to use an overhead transparency sheet rather than paper, because then you can see what's under your hand, so you can get it very close to where you are making your marks. It's also easy to clean and re-use. Because the surface is very smooth it doesn't pick up pastel dust and move it around your artwork.
    Step 2: PanPastels have a blender colour, but I've never tried it.
    Step 4: For transferring, use a different colour for the final stage of going over the lines, so you can see if you've missed anything.

      I've never heard of one before!
      I assume it's a completely transparent sheet used for projectors?
      That would probably be ideal :)

      @@KirstyRebeccaFineArt Yes, it's a completely transparent plastic sheet for overhead projectors.

    Pitts really make sharpener stump because they have such a hard wood around. Them I only sharpen with a knife 🙈 others I sharpen with a sharpener

      I've noticed that as well actually!
      I just stick to the craft knife most of the time anyway, it gets sharp enough for what I need 🤷‍♀️😊

    Great tips! I am very new to pastels and I want to do portrait of my 2 year old granddaughter on Clairefontaine pastelmat. What color would you recommend for a mid tone value for a young Caucasian girl? I was leaning towards white but now I am questioning that.

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thankyou 😊
      Are you adding a background to your piece?
      It doesn't matter too much which paper colour you choose if you are adding a background, but maybe more neutral colours like grey/brown
      But if you're letting the paper show in the background, then I'd suggest printing your reference photo and seeing which colour looks best with the colours in your photo 😊

    • @iloveoregon99
      @iloveoregon99 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirsty Rebecca Fine Art Thank you, yes I am doing a Bokeh background.

      @@iloveoregon99
      Okay cool, then you should be fine with any colour you choose, but I would probably recommend a neutral mid tone colour like grey or brown
      It makes it easier to judge your values, and if any paper colour shows through, it won't be too obvious 😊

      There's a good video on skin tone in pastels by Alain Picard at th-cam.com/video/bM4CUaqyfm0/w-d-xo.html He seems to use a sandy grey background.
