I believe DM have been performing “Stripped” in a lower key going back to the Sounds of the Universe tour (2009-10).

Glad, Depeche Mode has returned back to Roland drum triggers instead of Albeton Live.
Christian Eigner drums sound great along with new Roland electronic pads!
Pro controllers have Roland Cloud and Aurtia Analog lab bring life to MIDI controllers.
Depeche Mode is using the L-Acoustics K series line array loudspeaker and SSL L550 console, which resemble 9080k Superanalogue recording console.
"Condemnation" was performed as one of encore at The Fabulous Kia Forum in Los Angeles,USA.
Huge honor to see them at The Forum after over a decade later from Tour of the universe.
Overall, sonically resemble analog days of Touring The Angels with better samplers like Roland Cloud and Aurtia Analog lab. Last time was L-Acoustics V-DOSC to now K series line arrays. Midas H3000 analog to now Digital SSL L550 desk.
      Great memorable show 🎹🔊

Well their set lists used to be a lot better they are pretty generic and safe now. Now there are certain tracks they should always play however several of of them could be switched out for much better ones.

I was at the Las Vegas show! It was phenomenal! This was the set list from that show, in order:
    My Cosmos is Mine
    Wagging Tongue
    It's No Good
    Walking in My Shoes
    Sister of Night
    In Your Room
    Everything Counts
    Precious
    Speak to Me
    A Question of Lust
    Soul With Me
    Ghosts Again
    I Feel You
A Pain That I'm Used To
World in My Eyes (Fletch's image on the screen during the whole duration)
    Wrong
    Stripped
    John the Revelator
Enjoy the Silence (first "fake ending")
Waiting for the Night (Dave and Martin duet)
Happy Birthday (to a young woman in the front, entire crowd joined in, absolutely beautiful moment)
    Just Can't Get Enough
    Never Let Me Down Again
    Personal Jesus

San Antonio was perfectly delightful. Visuals were outstanding, as expected, and I was pleasantly surprised by how on-point the vocals were. Seems I'm in the minority for feeling they could dispense with some slower tracks, but Waiting for the Night was just gorgeous - beautifully hushed, as if the audience were all but required to stop in their tracks. Everything Counts and Just Can't Get Enough sent the crowd completely, dancing-in-the-aisles bonkers, making me feel like I was (little?) 15 again. Deeply gratified to have my 22-year-old son among them. Perfect set list? No such thing, but I'd say this one... gets the balance right.

Just saw them this past Wednesday in Chicago at the United Center. They looked and sounded great. The visual presentation was clean, simple, and very tasteful. I also think they've delivered a great new album - no easy feat for veteran artists.

I loved this video discussion. I saw DM in Las Vegas at T-Mobile Arena Mar 30th, from where I was sitting, the sound and visual was perfect. I felt the sub bass melodies, the electronics, and Christian held back on the excessive drumming and toned it down. It felt like the singles tour drumming, it was perfect. Dave and Martin's voice was strong, rich, and silky. I got my thoughts about the setlist, but I just ignored it and experienced the reality of what it is. DM can't please everyone. My favs sound wise live, My Cosmos is Mine, It's No Good, Sister of Night (Amazing) Speak to Me (Haunting atmosphere Amazing) A Question of Lust, John the Revolator, Ghosts Again, Wagging Tongue. I've seen DM since 101, I'm really impressed and happy to see Dave and Martin giving us their all. It did hit me when I didn't see Fletch on stage, it was a haunting experience to see his image during World in My Eyes, I was just focused on that image while DM performed Fletch's favorite. A beautiful concert, let's not be to judgmental about our boys, just enjoy the experience and make memories with your friends and DM family. Also, I ditched my cell to really be in real time and capture the concert with my own eyes. You should try it, it's like the 80s. LOL Bravo Momento Mori - World Tour US - I'm just an LA fan.

I agree with you about doing a different backing track on Everything Counts. I loved the Devotional Tour version of that song. I also remember Alan wanting to do a updated version of The Sun And The Rainfall for the devotional tour but was outvoted. I’m sure Martin was dead against it and Fletch, like always, backed him up.

      @raytostado5268 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@D T Day Totally agree with you 100%.
The problem is that Martin doesn’t really like anything from A Broken Frame. He’s stated many times that he wrote some of those songs when he was just 15 years old and cringes when he hears them. I was shocked that they played Photographic several years ago, I thought I would never hear that song play live again (Even though it’s a Vince song). Who knows, they might shock me again and play one of the songs you mentioned on a different leg of the tour. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking.

I've been fortunate to see DM twice on this tour and it's been fantastic--not just saying it! As you said, it's like they've taken notes on what we've all been talking about
From where I stood in San Jose, the drumming was decently mixed for MOST of the songs, except where it was clear that they were letting Christian go ham on the drums. It seemed more prominent in LA but again, could have been where I was, or the energy, or whatever.
The setlist... it's good on its face with a few songs I didn't need to hear again, LOL. Had I just *seen* it I would have been meh at certain points. But given that I didn't spoil myself, I just experienced the show as it happened, and even the songs I'm meh about I got into! That surprised me.
Sister of Night--so appropriate for this tour. Beautiful. And I can't help but think of where Dave was at when he recorded it... reflective of mortality, like so much of the album (and tour).
I do love Speak to Me and that was a highlight for me.
Before JCGE Dave said--are you ready for some fun? (Something along those lines) So even he acknowledged the song for what it is--fun!

Vaughn, I attended both the San Jose (25 March) & Las Vegas (30 March) concerts. The over-drumming by Christian Eigner is still present, at least on some of the older songs. The songs from Memento Mori do not suffer from this. They're only playing 5 songs from the new album; I would've preferred 8-9 Memento Mori songs given this is the new album.

Correct. More songs from the new album have to be presented. That's less than half.
      Especially missing "Before We drown".
It's sad that "Waiting For The Night" has been (sometimes) replaced by "Condemnation".
"Waiting For The Night" is much more harmonious in the set.

The only detail I didn't like is the lack of songs from "Some Great Reward", one of my favourite albuns on their whole discography. I'd love to see they performing Lie To Me, Somebody, Blasphemous Rumours (this is really difficult, cause it's much controversial) and other forgotten gems. Anyway, it's an amazing set list and I hope to see them personally some day in Brazil, it would be wonderful ❤️

I went into LA show unfamiliar with the new set list, and it was so much fun not knowing what was coming next. Overall, I would give the set list a B+. Memento Mori is the first DM album since SoFaD where I would love to hear more tracks live from the new album. JTR as the second to last song in the main set feels a bit out of place. Replace it with “Strangelove” or “People Are People” and it would be an A+. The live performance itself was fantastic. A generous 23 songs in total. Dave and Martin sounded great, and the vibe onstage was the BEST. 🖤

I like that all my anticipations for the setlist were almost not met :) Except for WIME, I knew they would do it and it would be for Fletch, I didn’t obviously know how, but they did it the best way possible. I was also not expecting APTIUT for a third tour in a row. I love this song a lot, it is one of my most beloved favorites and I even liked the new arrangement when it was introduced back in 2013, but I would be beyond happy if they, having decided to do this song again this tour, did it in another arrangement - the album version for example. Absolutely blown away by Sister Of Night and the fact that Dave finally sang it live almost 26 years later. Waiting For The Night is beautiful and they nicely combined the album and bare versions of this song. As for Memento Mori, My Cosmos Is Mine and Speak To Me sound gorgeous live. Anyway, so great to see them in a great shape and back again! I hope they do The Sun And The Rainfall at some point as Dave hinted to it back last autumn. I wish all the fans who are going to the gigs to enjoy the shows to the fullest and experience immense happiness. Same goes to you, Vaughn! :)
P.S. Speaking about your note concerning vocal coaches: based on the pages from Memento Mori booklet that I’ve seen on the Internet (hopefully people with the album on their hands can confirm) there is a “thank you” there to Evelyn Halus - the coach who helped Dave during Ultra sessions. So it is very possible that they turned to her for help again and that’s why the vocals on MM sound as beautiful as they are.

I'll see them in Bologna, Italy in July. It's my first stadium concert and i'll be in the golden circle. I'm excited and scared at the same time 😅
I agree with most of your comments on the setlist and general performance. I have to say, though, that i'm a bit tired of hearing A Pain That i'm Used To in this version, I Feel You and Just Cant Get Enough (Sorry😇). I think they have such a large catalog of songs that they could switch those with some others. I don't pretend them to do like The Cure that change setlist almost every night but i think they can rotate a few songs here and there. I would kill to see Dream On played live again or Martin singing Sweetest Perfection.
As far as the arrangment of songs goes, i quiet like that they, at least, kept the backings they used on the last tour for Everything Counts and Walking In My Shoes because they were well done.
Anyway, Depeche Mode can still deliver live spectacularly. I cannot wait to see them.

I recall during the Sound of the Universe documentary they released with the boxset Fletch talked about how he was concious of the last song on an album being overlooked and rarely listened too. One song he touched on and he did wish for it to be put back on the set, even an acoustic version was 'The Sun and The Rainfall'. Really hope they re-visit it at some point on this tour for Fletch :)

Would cry to hear “But Not Tonight” in the list. Hope they brighten up the list a bit for the second Chicago show. I finally had the honor and privilege of seeing them live for the first time ever, in San Antonio a few days ago.
My thoughts: initially I suspected it was just me being biased towards the show that I’ve personally seen, or perhaps something vocally not translating on TH-cam with past performances, but I am so pleased to see that I am not alone in feeling awestruck at how amazing Dave sounds right now.
It’s a full-on redemption for that rough stretch he/we endured over the last decade or so.
Another thing that I couldn’t help but notice about this show was how much fun they seemed to be having, collectively. There were past tours (not all, but some) where it seemed like Dave was doing his own thing, and perhaps a bit of a disconnect between he and the others but right now, collectively they are in full swing as artists and they seem to be having a blast - and every bit of it shows as this album has Depeche Mode feeling more “current” and cutting edge than they’ve felt in quite some time.
Lastly, the smiles on their faces showed how much they truly are enjoying themselves right now and it warmed my heart that - in spite of many of the songs I was hoping for didn’t make it to set the setlist (Strangelove, Shake the Disease, Little 15, Fly on the Windscreen, But Not Tonight, Master and Servant) I was so incredibly proud to be a part of such an INSPIRED NEW CHAPTER of my favorite band of all time.

Lifelong DM fan. I saw the Vegas show a few nights ago. The last time I saw DM live before that was on the SOTU tour at the Hollywood Bowl in 2009, during which I found myself bored way too often. Between that experience and ticket prices in recent years, I avoided going to DM concerts between 2009 and now. My sister got me a ticket for this recent Vegas show, and oh boy am I GLAD I went! It was absolutely terrific! Even “Soul With Me”, which I have mixed feelings about on the album, was phenomenal live. Martin’s vocals were the best I’ve ever heard them. And because of you, I was very cognizant of Christian’s drumming. I had zero complaints this show.

With so many good songs on Memento Mori I felt I would have liked to see one or two more in the setlist. I would go as far as to trade one or two of the old songs for new ones. Of course, making a longer concert would be better, however they are already at the two hours mark, which is ok (sufficient), I guess. Going a bit further and spending another 10-15 minutes for a couple of new songs from Memento Mori would be great, though.
And, OH MY GOD! You're going to play live with Mesh! I love them, I'm really, really happy for you even if I won't be at those particular shows. I hope you'll have a great time! Those were some exciting news!

Very honest review Vaughn. Wouldn’t expect anything less. I saw them in LA front row (my 9th DM concert) and I must say this was the most incredible experience. Loved every song they played. My only criticism would be I would’ve loved to have heard more from Black Celebration.

I just saw DM on Friday night at Madison Square Garden in New York Cite. Now, I haven't seen DM in concert in over 30 years. The last time at Giant Stadium in 1990. Fun fact, my wife was at the same show but of course we didn't know each other then. I really enjoyed the show, you are right that both Dave and Martin sounded incredible. I teared up with World In Your Eyes and the pictures of Andy. They did Condemnation at our show and it was amazing. I was hoping that they would do Behind The Wheel/Route 66 but I got Never Let Me Down Again in the encore. Having not seen DM for so long I loved the drummer, I liked the change to the older songs with him.

Looking forward to see them on October 1 in Dallas, Texas. I wanted to go to the London gig but couldn't get the tickets that I wanted and it was too close to my daughter's graduation. I'm excited for the Dallas gig. I really like the Memento Mori album and I'm excited that I get the chance to see them again live. Thanks for the great video.

As someone who went to the Spirit concert and now to the Momento Mori, oh yeah, there is a difference in sound. But for me, the stage seems a bit empty without Andy 😕. I was able to take my kids this time, and they loved it. It was their first concert, so hearing Precious for me was extra special. They are still amazing!

I just got to see the guys in San Antonio, and I have been avoiding any footage of the tour as I didn't want any spoilers. So I'm glad I can watch this now. The set list was the same and I can tell you I was amazing! So emotional I cried three times with joy and sadness lol. As you said a perfect set list not overplayed on drums and perfect synth sounding. I can divulge more on our next class and congrats on reaching 30K in subscribers!

Interesting technical note….as a musician and lifelong DM fan, I play a lot of DM songs for fun at home. My seat at the Vegas show placed me at a great angle to watch Martin when he was playing the keyboards. What I found interesting was that there are many parts of my favorite songs that I learned to play with one hand that would be much easier with two hands. I learned to play those parts with one hand because I thought my keyboard player friends would mock me for playing those parts like a beginner or something silly like that. But I watched Martin play those parts with TWO HANDS! So….two hands it is. No shame. LOL

Got my tickets to see them in December. Most money I've ever had to pay for any concert ever, but it's DM so it's worth it. Love the setlist, and I noticed that they already made a change at some of the shows by playing Condemnation (Dave singing) which wasn't in the first concerts (it was Waiting For The Night.) Also, it's interesting to hear Dave sing Sister of Night live since Martin used to do it, Martin also sang Condemnation back in 1994 and during solo gigs over the years, so I guess they decided Dave can sing them both live now, LOL! Thanx! ~Be Blessed

I was at the Vegas show and when he sang Happy Birthday to that young girl and we all joined it, it was truly special. I have been going to see them on tour since Exciter and they always amaze me on how great they sound l live. My only complaint is that it goes by way too fast lol.

Its the hard rocker in me, but I love the lively drumming by Christian. I like the extra kicks and bounces he adds to the songs, and Id actually would have loved to have had more of that on M.M. Good songs like "Never let me Go" absolutely could have benefited and been served even more with a more harder driven, rockier percussion.

Good chap that you are, I agree with all the points you made re: the Spirit tour - over-drumming especially. I do enjoy your channel, being a fervent fan of DM since 1981 (as I am that old/was only 10 at the time :D) and you always bring up some very astute observations which I tend to concur with too. Aah Mesh, I am friends with Mark and Rich, mainly stemming from touring supporting them in Europe in 2006/2007 with my band Mechanical Cabaret; I hope you'll have fun playing with them! See you in Twickenham ;) Keep it up Vaughn! xR

To be honest I personally think they have just removed the tracks from the Spirit Album and added the new ones from Memento Mori . Otherwise for me the track list is very similar compared from the last tour , I would have wanted to hear My Favourite Stranger and People are Good Live . Some tracks like A Pain That I'm Used To , Everything Counts , Walking in My Shoes are exactly the same version as from the Spirit Tour which is not a bad thing , but I would have wanted to hear something different .
Definitely going to see the concert in Twickenham , see you there ;-)

Thanks Vaughn , this is a great video with really useful concert track listings. I'll be at Twickenham too, hopefully, and I expect we'll hear some different songs, but never the less, a good selection.
Looking forward to hearing further news about the 2 events, with Gareth Jones and I will certainly contribute to the crowdfunding campaign for the book!! Meant to ask previously, I may have done already, if there's any particular amount ie minimum or the total required ?
Perhaps when you know you can let me know. Will definitely buy a copy so fingers crossed enough money is raised.
Lastly, many congratulations on your upcoming gig!!🎵🎹🎶
I haven't heard of the group but that doesn't matter, I'll look them up.

lol at "Go on Pete, get your bass" 😁 A Pain That I'm used to was never one of my faves, but I thought it was cool to see it played with the bass on the last tour. Could have skipped it this time though, especially when there are so many other better songs (in my opinion) that could replace it. And where is 'Before we Drown'!!! Really hope they vary the set list a little by the time it gets to London.

I was at the San Jose concert. So much fun. I felt their transitions were a bit rough, but it was only their second show. I assume that tighten up as the tour progressed. I've been fortunate to see every tour since Black Celebration and experience songs they no longer play ( People are People, Master and Servants, Leave in Silence, etc). Yes we all wish we could hear those one more time. Heck I would love to hear In Your Memory, Fools, and some of their other B-sides, but I know that will probably not happen. I enjoyed the set list. However, I felt that Dave's voice on I Feel You was not the best and maybe substitute with another song. I will be seeing them again in San Francisco and hope they play other MM songs including Before We Drown, People are Good, and Always You. We will see. Other than that I was a teenager at the Rose Bowl 35 years ago. Thank you Vaughn for honest criticism of a band we love so much. Please Please do an album review on Ultra. This is one of my favorites. If it wasn't for Ultra, I don't think we would be seeing them today.
