Hiya from across the pond Vaughn ... I am SO behind on all too much of your FAB content. Most importantly .... I am soooo sad for your very heart of hearts with the great loss of Brian. I am so sad for this great loss and so appreciative for ALL the times you both shared with us together and projects etc. I hope you get time .... time to grieve and heal as you deserve such.

DM accompanied me thru' a terrible time last year with the loss of my Dad. Id never seen them before, so almost two weeks ago in Dublin was an Apex of all the emotions playing and moving within. The show was phenomonal. I felt like I was on a dark, distant planet when "Cosmos" weaved its dark magic in the air, and the gig held me there all the whole way.
I was levitating for the whole gig, I was utterly blown away and could barely even applaud when, the back to back brilliance of Black Celebration and Stripped were unveiled.
New material was excellent, it worked wonderful with everything. I was in another world. I Loved it all.

@@VaughnGeorge 👍Thank you, Sir. Sorry too mate, for your recent loss. 'Cosmos" fitted perfectly alongside "Insight" and "In Your Room" when walking and thinking to myself in the evenings last year. I was Starstruck when Dave&Martin strolled onstage, and then 'Cosmos" put me in a Trance that, didnt let up for the whole show. 👍
Im a massive Metal/Rock fan and the DM Experience was one of the most intense gigs Ive been to in years. Other Worldly.

It didn't matter if he didn't do much musically, but his presence brought so much character, charm and depth to the band, that can never be replaced or forgotten. RIP Fletch. We miss you. ❣

I went to see them in Manchester as well as Twickenham. Manchester was a fantastic gig, Dave even said to the crowd "you are so much better than London". I love My Cosmos Is Mine, great track, I don't find it depressing at all, it's full of atmosphere.
I've been fortunate enough to see DM live on every tour since 1982. I do have to say I miss the full electronic experience, I would sooner have a drum machine over a live kit and I'm actually a drummer... But that's my opinion. If you look at the Vinegar Street sessions, I think that format would work great live and be quite refreshing for both band and audience.

I love My Cosmos Is Mine. I know what's this song is about and it's crazy that I'm living through this time right now. It is happening. DM do what they should and if people don't care and come to the show for dancing from beginning to the end - they just close their eyes, cuz they're fine and everything is alright in their world. Other case Just Can't Get Enough! What a genius - not annoying at all - song it is! Yep... soundtrack of 2022+ So, Memento Mori, people. Nothing matter more then this, unfortunetely. This tour is little bit more then just music, want you or not. I'm proud of them.

Yep, I too love "Cosmos". It was an immence help to me last year listening to it in a trance , as the night fell. Its got such a mood, alien world vibe to it. I love Dark Mode like that anyway, and how, their current show can rumble to a brooding beginning with Cosmos, only to have you jump around to Just cant get Enough at the end. 👍

I agree with your comment about Fletch. For so much that was said about his lack of involvement, his presence certainly is missed, in PR things (interviews, fan interactions, etc) and even on the live shows. He might had been just a bloke clapping on the side of the stage in certain songs but even that is missed.

DM last great tour was 1993/4 with SOFAD. They are just a parody of their old lineup now. Most of their arrangements are just drowned out by Eigner bashing the drums like a toddler having a tantrum. The 2 major problems they have are that they are trying to play live drums over tracks that were originally written with drum machines, and secondly they massively miss Alans live arrangements.

God how many fortunes I would give to see on stage those 3 Emaxes, no Kristian, no Gordino. Ok maybe 3 Kronoses, no argue on that. And imagine Alan Wilder again on stage. Just Martin ,Alan and Dave and 3 samplers on stage. And imagin them play the songs with the original electronic drum sounds and original stucture. And only "Walking in my shoes" and "In your room" would be played with live drums by Alan. Just like it was back in the day .Oh, wishfull thinking..

When Condemnation first came out Dave was singing from a place of extreme darkness and pain. So the song worked. He has since overcome all his demons, so that is why the song doesn't have the same kick & hit that it used too.

Been to several shows of this tour and I have to agree with almost everything you mentioned in this video. However, for now I've attended just one gig of 4th leg in Dublin, which was way exceptional because of the venue itself. Dublin's 3Arena feels very intimate and the sound was absolutely amazing compared to all previous ones, even that messy line in Behind The Wheel sounded actually pretty okay 😀 ..and the band seemed to be in perfect mood and condition. Looking forward to both Prague shows now. Cheers!

Vaughn, I have seen this show 3 times, outdoor in Dublin, In New York and most recently in Dublin. The Dublin 3 Arena gig was epic, there was an alchemy between band and audience and it was incredible. It was clear the band were enjoying it. DM have a connection with Dublin, so you need to come here the next time!

I was at the Dublin show. My first time seeing them. Fecking Incredible. They absolutely looked as though they were having a great time up there, and Dave just could'nt stop moving and emoting the music along.
I was happy out with the set. Somebody, Strangelove, Behind the Wheel. And the new material had more depth, widescreen atmosphere live. Before we Drown was Massive.
I was pretty much in a starstruck daze from the onset, and "Cosmos" had this dark brooding buzz that felt like moody opening credits to a movie. Lulling you in then, Bang! Wagging Tounge, the lights come on and we have lift off! Stunning Night. The after show party in Temple Bar's "Button Factory" was class aswell. 👍👍

I went to both nights at the O2 Arena. I thought DM were superb, especially on night 2. I screamed when they played Behind The Wheel! I thought Christian’s drumming was superb but each to their own. I had side seats for night 2 so my brother and I were super close to the stage. The sound from there was much clearer. I could hear the bass more. I had the best DM gig ever and I went to Twickenham which was really good but night 2 at the O2 was something else. Walking In My Shoes, It’s No Good, I Feel You, Behind The Wheel, Enjoy The Silence, NLMDA and Personal Jesus were my faves over both nights. It’s No Good and I Feel You are my tour faves. I was up in the gods for night one and I was up so high it felt like I was flying. My memory of being up that high headbanging to I Feel You and standing up for ETS and Personal Jesus will stay with me forever.
I too would drop John The Revelator. I would love A Question of Time. I have given up all hope of Freelove being played but wouldn’t Never Let Me Go sound just brilliant live? I have no idea why they haven’t played it.

Great honest review Vaughn! I saw them here in my hometown, Detroit, back in November. When Martin came out he did a question of lust, and dressed in black. I just about lost my mind (in a good way of course). I thought they sounded fantastic! My only complaint is that they could (like you said) lose John the revelator, and a pain that im used to. Nobody cares about those songs. I want to see a few some great reward tracks in there instead!

I went to both evenings at the 02. On the second evening they played Before We Drown - which is my favourite track on MM, and they also dropped World in my eyes (!) for Behind the wheel. Both evenings were great. But I totally agree with the My Cosmos is mine super long intro approach to the start of the show. It's almost like it's there to allow Dave to warm up his voice. The only thing I don't like is, having seen them live since the CTA Tour, is that I can predict every 'Ad lib' that Dave does. But, whatever, they were great nights, and maybe their last tour.

Hello Brother, I was at the same show and I thought it was very well done. My previous DM live gig was Touring The Universe was I felt wasn’t a great album or tour. Whilst I agree with a lot of your criticisms I disagree with others but that’s fine, it’s subjective. I’m just grateful they are still recording and touring new material, I also feel DM is in a no win situation. If they kept churning out Violator 1,2, & 3 they’d get slaughtered for it and if they try to be more experimental people have a go. On a positive, I want to thank you for highlighting Christian’s over-drumming which was horrible on Touring The Universe (see middle section of ETS) 🫣. This tour, they reeled him in. Lastly Mrs Eunson, how can you not be a Depeche Mode fan? 😳 🖤

Who really needs to hear Personal Jesus, Enjoy the silence, Just can't get enough etc you know all the usual suspects. I would have loved to be at the Depeche Mode concert last weekend in Copenhagen. BUT!!!! I would much rather have been to a Devotional Tour concert! Why? For a few obvious reasons as you also pointed out. The band still had Fletch alive and Alan Wilder was in the band. There were no annoying Rock drummer ruining many of the epic songs (lets face it normal drums is not what we associate DM's songs with)! They did not remix many of the songs with awful sounds from synth catalouges into pale imitations of the originals. They did clever arrangements that stood out (probably thanks to Alan Wilder) and Dave's voice was just much much better (duh age does play a role and thats ok).
    You are spot on!

As a staunch devotee of DM, and also a rock music aficionado, I actually like Christian's drumming on the live sets. DM crosses genres in their live performances and becomes a rock outfit - and I like that. So it's a matter of taste really. Also, just the visual aesthetics of their live performances is very rock band. Martin is usually on guitars, the drums are visually and sonically very present and prominent, Dave is very charismatic and full of energy. Total rock aesthetics. This is what draws the crowds and makes each live experience a night to remember. This is what separates DM from any other electronic music artist. You can't deny that.

@@gustavo2100that's your opinion - and apparently @VaughnGeorge shares your sentiment. However, there must be a reason Christian's been with DM for over a quarter of a century! Any drummer anywhere would kill to be part of DM's live setup - but they stuck with Christian, and for good reason. He's the perfect balance between a drum machine and a live rock drummer - with enough oomph to make his own mark and not be overshadowed by Dave and Martin. There's a reason why he's so prominent on stage, and not in the dark shadows. He brings the energy that a live set needs - while being rock-steady.

Do you think that, or why they don't sing some of the songs that we all have associated DM when Alan Wilder was part of the band, and love so much have anything to do with paying Royalties' to Alan Wilder? I think the live drumming is bloody brilliant. Im a huge rock/metal fan, so I really think the percussion lifts the tracks hugher. Take "Precious'. The song had more dynamic, depth and departures because of the added peaks and valleys because of the propelling percussion. Hi Vaughn. I'm a drummer, so let me say I agree you on this one. The only time the drums sounded right with DM is when Alan played them. Since Christian joined the band, the drum sound is pretty bad. I think it's the creative decision, plus the concert toms (single drum head) sound really 70s, almost dead sounding. Snares are tuned way too low. On that note...I didn't bother see DM this time, and probably that was their last tour ever. Some people just don't know when to leave the stage leaving good memories. DM is degrading their shows every single time they come with the new tour. I saw Muse in the spring of 2023, and let me tell you, that DM concerts look like a pretty average cover band concert compared to titans like Muse. Good bye, DM. I prefer to return to the DM studio albums with Alah, to enjoy some of the greatness that has been captured in recordings.

Last great tours of Depeche Mode, after AW of course, were Singles Tour maybe, but particularly the Ultra 2 shows in LA and London as some of those recordings were released in singles, which sound great, just a more simple drum kit with a real drum kit sound rather than the massive layered drums they are using now, and also ONIP, yeah why not... Exciter Tour was pretty good and Christian's drum kit and the way he was playing at the time did fit depeche songs in a better way. Loving Vaughn's childish off the topic thing !!! Great review as always my man !!!

I see many of your points Vaughn, and I also saw an interview somewhere Alan saying that the other DM members would have been okay releasing the demo version of the songs. The others seemed to have a very relaxed approach. And it made sense now that DM’s greatness was really a lot of Alan and Flood’s (am I spelling that right?) spending all the time in the studio arranging and working on the songs. Probably makes sense why DM didn’t win a lot of music awards because musically it wasn’t an entire band contribution. Anyway, i think you summed it up-that will do attitude.

Although I would have cherished the opportunity to hear "People are Good," unfortunately, it wasn't performed live. Let's please lose " A Pain that Used To" I agree LOL, please replace with "A Question of Time" ! "Condemnation" Las Vegas lounge version. I found between the two show I saw the crowd energy played a huge role. Atlanta crowd was so muted but in Toronto the entire venue was singing along with Ghosts Again (just think about that - the recall on new material). Honestly, I wouldn’t care if they played the same set list if they came back again to NA. Plus - you do have to acknowledge that if you change the set list then you hav to revisit the graphics / supporting visuals (because as production manager that costs money.)

I agree that Depeche's drummer "Rocks". 🤘👊 I think the live drummer debate is fascinating. Some Rock fans enjoy or feel that a more organic, lively version of Depeche kicking out the jams onstage gravitates towards them more, but DM devotees who saw them during the earlier years understandably prefer the more electronic elements to return up there. I get it. Its a fascinating discussion.
I totally understand and respect where Vaughan and others are coming from. 👍 But I think the drumrolls, cresendos and the like add new dynamics and dimension to the songs live.
Depeche attract a huge Rock and Metal audience. Far moreso than say, 20 years ago. They became a huge influence on bands like Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, etc.
Most other fans I know that have loved 'em long long before me dont care or compare either way about live drums. They are just happy to be at the gig, hear the songs and lose themselves in everything.👍
