I sang the anthem at an As game with my choir in high school; it doesn't matter if you're a particular Sports Fan but if you grew up around here, you Know And Love The As - until this. It's a really tragic end for an Oakland institution, and I'll always be proud of what they were to the East Bay, and thank you for explaining why we're all so rightly upset. I'm really excited that we've just opened the chapter with the Bay FC in women's soccer, but I can't make it down to San Jose for BFC any more than I can for the Sharks, just because of the commute, so it really stings to lose our local point of community. Also, this is a super funny ep and thank you guys for keeping me in the loop and altogether being really wonderful ambassadors for hockey :D!!
I guess it grows the game in the sense that it puts eyes on it temporarily, but it also makes fewer people want to play or let their kids play, so it shrinks the game in that respect.
While the hockey community is for everyone, the game isn't for everyone. Hockey is a physical game, and it's great, but not everyone wants to play a game like that. There's skill exclusive games like baseball soccer and basketball, and there's ones for people who want to play a physical game like hockey. Same with karate vs. bowling. Not every sport is for everyone to play.
There was a huge difference between that line brawl with the Rangers and the infamous line brawl against Washington three years ago that got the Rangers team president and GM fired after the team got beaten up, and also caused a major disruption in the building of the team, sacrificing skill for toughness.
Pontus Holmberg has far higher offensive skill and overall upside than Kampf. He is a smart player on the defensive side of the puck too for the most part. Good third line centre in my books. Just young and new to the league, needs to continue to gain experience and confidence.

Chris Simon's recent CTE related death needs to be at the forefront of discussions about line brawls like last night. It's disingenious to act like people don't have a rational reason to think fighting in hockey has a significant cost over the long term. Yes, fighting is awesome to watch and is an exciting part of the sport, but we also need to figure out how we can keep the physicality of hockey without losing people to CTE-related complications.
I'm pretty sure there's studies out there that show that head trauma from body checks is far more of a cause for long term CTE than hockey fights. There should absolutely be concerns that fighting does contribute to CTE, but blaming it soely on fighting without addressing head shots from body checks is also disingenious, which I think happens a lot.
So I think in thus case it was a line brawl for show it was a "let's fight to not let this game get super dangerous" as it was a powder keg. It was a regular hockey game afterwards so this detoured the game from getting nasty

Compared to other sports shows here McAfee talks hockey. It tends to be of the "please like my sport" type though. Some of the guys on there used to have a side hockey podcast
