    In this video, I show you Whitney Pockets as a storm is passing through. we were out photographing and a short sunny break happened which lit up the colorful sandstone and green desert surroundings. We were lucky to visit when the Joshua Trees were in bloom.
    Whitney Pockets is a free BLM camp spot located about 30 miles from Mesquite, Nevada on the Gold Butte Backcountry Byway.
    Getting there is a bit of a chore involving a bumpy drive of 20 miles on a very rough and sometimes curvy asphalt roadway.
    It's well worth it though to get off the beaten path and enjoy the amazing scenery found here.

    A chilly 60 something.... daaa Here in NB we still have three feet of snow on the lawn. Enjoy!!!
    What a beautiful spot. The pockets are amazing. When wandering and exploring off road do you have to be concerned about scorpions or snakes.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Peter Bernier Had to put my long pants on. Rough I tell you! :)
      This time of year not so much, they are mostly still in hibernation. They also night hunters so tend to stay dormant during the day.
      Just have to watch where you are stepping and be careful reaching into cracks and crevices.
      In 5 years of coming down here for the winter, I have seen 2 scorpions and a couple small snakes, and no rattlers.
      We visited NB in summer 2011, loved it! Hope to get back out to the Maritimes someday.

    Hey Ray. If you're close to Death Valley, your wife might want to capture some Death Valley National Park Wildflower-Super-Bloom images. Just saw a video of it on Enigmatic Nomadics. Supposedly several years or even a decade can separate super blooms.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, we knew about the bloom but decided against heading that way in favor of more time to spend in southern Nevada and Utah, I'm sure the place is a mad house with crowds. We may stop in on our way back west in early April if it's still on.
      We were lucky enough to witness something similiar last February over in Big Bend - www.loveyourrv.com/rving-big-bend-ranch-state-park-in-texas/ The blue bonnets were incredible.

    • @knutblaise9437
      @knutblaise9437 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Love the pic of Angie with the blue bonnets :-)
      Also, are you aware of more efficient heater fans to replace the stock propane heater fans in RVs. I've see you and others talk about how they can use a lot of power. Thanks!

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I know of. I guess because the furnace is ducted and has multiple outlets in the RV a powerful fan is required. I believe it uses a large squirrel cage type.
      We try and use our little propane radiant heater when not sleeping, that really saves the power vs running the RV furnace all the time.

    You folks ever get worried about being in a trailer during a storm?
    I live in North TX and the storms here are quite spectacular. Yesterday we had winds of 40 to 80 MPH. Also had 3 F1 twisters. It rained so hard I could see the tree in the front yard. The cats hide most of the day....LOL

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have been through some big storms over the years without any damage.
      The fifth wheel is pretty stable, especially when filled with 500 extra pounds of water for boondocking. If it's really bad I hook up our big 7000 lb diesel truck as an anchor. I carry a weather alert radio.
      But mostly since we are full timers and free to go where we want we just travel where dangerous weather isn't. For the most part, the west doesn't get that tornado and hurricane type weather found in the middle and southeast. One reason I like it out here for RVing.

    Oh wow, those pics at the end of this post are Outstanding. I love it... I am one of your newer fans and have been working my way through a lot of your past youtube videos. I live here in Vegas and am hoping to be RVing soon. Gonna do the Solar Panel upgrade because your videos were so inspiring. I have not come across a video on your recommendations for windy weather situations? If you have one could you send me the link or maybe cover that topic in the future? Here in Vegas, we get some really strong winds every now and then and I wanted to know how to handle those times when Boondocking. I was also looking for a video on some housekeeping products that you might recommend while RV Boondocking. Since space and power are such a big issue how do you handle such things as vacuuming/sweeping, mopping, types of outdoor Grilling devices, or other powered cooking utensils? Say Hi to Mrs. Rey and Angie for me and Enjoy your stay!

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Tina you have given me some good topic ideas. The most important thing it to be aware of the weather forecasts. We carry a quality radio with weather bands and auto alert mode and I'm always trying to stay up to date with the latest forecast.
      Experience will teach you how much wind your rig can handle, most RVs can handle very strong winds, just think about the wind speed when highway driving into the wind. It's best to point the nose into the wind if possible.
      For cleaning, we have a Swifter and a small had vacuum. We have ditched most of the carpet in the rig and any fabric furniture in favour of vinyl and leather. It's really helped.
      I don't use powered cooking utensils when boondocking preferring old school methods using our gas stove. Outside I have a BBQ that hooks right into the trailers gas line. It's amazing the things you can cook in foil. ;)
      Here is a link to posts I've done to do with maintenance - www.loveyourrv.com/tag/maintenance-2/ Cheers Ray

    I was Boondocking around Hwy. 40 and Kelbaker Rd this weekend (Mar. 4 - 6) and I went through that storm that came through on Sunday. It was freezing, raining, and gust of wind) to the point it was miserable to be Geocaching the Route 66 Shield so I packed up and left for Vegas. So you were someone close by.

    Having come from and raised below sea level in N.O., I find the geology of the west fascinating. We love driving out west with our "Roadside Geology" books.The painted green valley floor adds to the normal color palette of the desert.

    That's a beautiful area. I was there in mid Oct. after the monsoon season, so the road was barely passable and was only open for a few days. Worth the rough drive in there. With those clear patches and the rain I was waiting for a gorgeous rainbow shot. Darn, looks like mother nature let us down....:) I see a cell phone antenna in the window. I camped just down the road from where you are and that was about it for ATT cell reception. Farther up the valley it was dead. I'll be back for sure.

      +Love Your RV Almost got the money shot.....:) Have you seen any rattlers? With the warm weather we've had I would think they are very active. I saw 2 about 200 ft. to the south of where you are camped, so if you are still there be careful. Another wind storm due in tomorrow, so baton down the hatches. Travel safe.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, still having some cool nights, so think that keeps them in the burrows. I've yet to see a rattler in 5 years coming to the southwest. We usually split around mid-April north so guess that's why, I also don't like really warm temps so tend to move on seeking the cooler places. We are headed up to Utah now.

    How do you find all these boondocking places is there a book or something?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out these links, usually between the four of them you can get an idea of public/BLM camping in the area you’re interested in. Google the campsite names to look for more published info on them. These days you usually find blog posts or videos on them.
      www.ultimatecampgrounds.com/uc/index.php
      www.allstays.com/Campgrounds/
      freecampsites.net/
      www.uscampgrounds.info/
      You can always phone the BLM office in the area or go there and ask in person. Many of them have BLM maps for sale showing the land use and where it is OK to camp, some have volunteers to get advice from or a ranger on staff -www.blm.gov/wo/st/en.html

    Hey Ray, since I live in Utah and spend a lot of time down around this area I thought I'd share this location with you. goo.gl/maps/YrMFXi8c6wk we camp in this area frequently and love it. The actual location in that link is some Dinosaur tracks. There is also an old Mormon fort in the general area. It's free and somewhat remote. It's far enough away from Sand Hollow State park and the ATV's that make it nice. You will see some ATV's though. Just thought you might want to check it out sometime. The best route is through Hurricane UT then head south.

      Hey Ray, not sure if this is the best or right place to talk to you. But I am going to use EternaBond tape to go over all my seems on my roof. I picked up this cleaner/conditioner to clean the rubber roof. I got it at states Trailer supply here in Utah. Called " Best" rubber roof cleaner and conditioner. Well what was really cool is how well it cleaned the old dirty lap sealant that is up there. After watching your video on doing your roof and using mineral spirits. I thought I'd let you know that you might be able to use that and knock out two birds. Once I went over it with the cleaner, I put the hose to it and wow, it went white as new. So next time you might want to try it out.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice slow moving pans. Amateur vids need to slow down and give the viewer time, less jerky motion and dub the sound when you have wind fluctuation disturbing the sound. Sound Quality is a High priority in all forms of visual production. Ditch the d.o.g. and get a wife, youll thank me later,,, or not lol 😂. Still like your vids my brother. Alhamdulillah GOD ALMIGHTY sure done made dis-er earth a bueaty if we just slow down and look 🌎.

      @@LoveYourRV lol glad you have a "Better half" I get to worry about dude's with dog's vacationing alone. Like your work would suggest if & when you have time, take a series of stills or use from existing vid footage and 🚶 walk twords your views. Cut after 10-30 seconds in a quick montage and see what happens. It may add to your artistry. Ok thanks for the walk throughs in our National Parks/wilderness. 😊
