Is it probably because of the desire to share your thoughts with others? I'm a creative writer and I felt like that a short time after trying to maintain a diary. I guess I understand what you felt there?
I keep a diary and have for five years but I call it a journal and don't bother with, today I did bla bla bla, I don't hold myself to time restraints, if I don't write in it for three months that's cool, if I write in it five times a day, that's cool too lol. Instead of writing what I've done every day, which is boring, I write when there is something cool that happened that I want to remember, or if I'm feeling crappy or whatever, when there is something I feel worth writing about, I write. Much easier to keep one :) there are no rules, it is your own personal diary, so make your own rules ^.^
