    I got my drag mat (I think it’s a 4’ x 5’ maybe) a few years ago to use on a lawn just slightly bigger than yours. It worked great. We were fortunate enough to move out on a little land and built a 17k sq ft lawn. I sand leveled it last year using mostly a tractor and box blade and a big homemade drag, but the drag mat behind the four wheeler was a great way to help work it down into the turf canopy. Underrated tool for sure especially when you can use it that way where it’s attached to something low to the ground so it doesn’t pull up the front end as much.

    I genuinely love your content, a drag mat definetly works well especially at a fraction of the cost of a level rake. In fact I just use standard garden rakes to topdress low spots in my lawn and guess what? It does the job

    Thanks for sharing, that's a beautiful lawn you have there, I need to start putting in the work but so many questions (or excuses some say)
    1- would you say is there a best time to start / finish leveling (TN here)?,
    2- in your experience this leveling job should be done all your lawn at once?
    3- sand maybe easier to level but do you think is that ok for clay soil as well?
    Thanks for your kind reply!

      @BudgetLawns  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. Appreciate that.
      1. I would do it around the middle of June.
      2. It just depends on how much time you have and work you want to put in. It can be done at once or chunked into sections.
      3. I use sand on my hard red clay soil. Works great.
      Hope this helps. Thanks again.

    Great video as always!
    First, I couldn’t agree more with the leveling rake debate. It’s dumb and pointless. I’ve used a landscape rake in the past, while not perfect, got the job done. It goes with any product really. Use whatever you want to use. I use the fert I use, I’ll link to it, but use what you want. Most of it does the same thing. People get tied up in the label to a detriment, to the point they don’t like people because they use a different one. Get off the label.
    I know I’ll get some flak for this, the truth hurts, but I think content creators, who spend a lot of their time doing this stuff, a few hours filming a video a few hours editing that video, deserve to make a dollar or two. If a company wants to make them affiliates, and they can get 3% or whatever, go for it. It’s really up to the viewer to decide whether or not they want to use that link for whatever product/tool to purchase it. It’s really not different from commercials. Heck, that’s why entertainment television was created, to sell stuff to the viewer. While I find the whole super salesman stuff is old, constantly “links to this product are in the description” 4 or 5 times a video… that’s a bit much. I feel creators deserve to make a few dollars. I don’t think creators should be demonized or shamed for making some money for their work.
    You made another great video my friend!!

      @BudgetLawns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks buddy. Appreciate all your feedback as always. I totally get what you’re saying. You’re right. Creators should get compensated in some way, but as you said, when it gets jammed down people’s throats, it’s too much. My deal here has been not to participate in all that since day one, so I want folks to know that’s how I operate. Thanks again man. Looking forward to your fall transformation.

    Me thinks you should try a commercial lawn level rake. It just may be that perfect tool you haven't found for leveling. It will catch the pebbles, wood and junk to bad for the mowers on the top braces. An experienced luterman will be more efficient than your infield drag, especially over ground not an already flat infield.

      @@BudgetLawns I do love your site! Now try this for leveling those hated scalping-causing bumps. Dig up around the hole so you have a gigantic plug. Add a soil composition of your choice into the hole . Make sure you add enough soil in the hole so that the low spot has now been brought an inch or so above the surrounding ground. Replace the plug on top. Repair just as you would a small divot on a golf green and Wala! You just fixed a low spot that will take years via the1/2 inch-sand method.

    If you don’t get lucky and score a mat, grab some wire shelving and zip tie two or three together. Buy some rope and a few pavers for weights and lodge them against the the lip of the wire shelf (use edge/lip side up).
    Will the vinyl coating wear off and will they rust, yes…but how often is the average homeowner doing this?
    And, those same wire shelves make a great top layer for a soil sifter, above the hardware cloth like mini grizzly bars protect the hardware cloth from direct impact of a shovel full of soil.

    Ok DEF diesel exhaust fluid
    They say it’s 15-0-0 in fertilizer ratings
    It’s 32% urea and distilled water
    Other liquid fertilizer is way expensive
    DEF is 6 to 7$ a gallon
    It takes 9 to 12 ounces per 1000 feet
    What is your opinion on DEF??

    Are you serious that you don't use any affiliate links anywhere on your channel or brand? How do you justify the time needed to actually make videos? It takes me far longer to make videos than it does to do actual lawn care, if I wasn't paid for my efforts why would I or anyone do it? Do you just get sponsored? Or some other financial compensation? Genuinely curious.

    • @BudgetLawns
      @BudgetLawns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dead serious. I have zero affiliate links on my channel or brand. The justification to make videos is simple: I enjoy it and like helping people. When I'm not having fun, I don't make videos. Hence my 3 month hiatus this past summer. Instead, I spent way more time with my family and loved every second of it. Grass and TH-cam will always be there, but my kids will grow up in the blink of an eye. I don't want to miss that for a yard and a bunch of strangers on the internet.
      TH-cam is not a job for me. It's merely a hobby just as lawn care is. I have a job that I love so there's no stress to earn money from Budget Lawns to support my family. Money is not my motivation. Perhaps if more people did it for the fun and not financial gain, they would see more success. I don't get paid for my lawn care hobby, which is fun, so why should I expect to get paid for TH-cam? I realize this mentality is not shared by many and that's okay. We all have different wants and needs. I will admit, though, a line could be drawn there, because time is valuable. That's why a single revenue stream from Google AdSense works for me. How cool is that? I get a little passive income every month for a hobby that I genuinely enjoy. Other hobbies like golf, boats, cars, etc. just turn into a money pit with no return other than the happiness received from them; kinda like lawn care. TH-cam actually gives a little $$$ back. When it doesn't feel like work, I'd say it's a win, win. I get out of it what I put in with no pressure on my shoulders. And trust me, this past spring, I was bringing in pretty good ad revenue. But the minute the channel felt like work and I wasn't having fun, I stepped away for bit. It wasn't worth it for me. My revenue dropped big time and that was okay. I'm not going to get trapped in this world. Aside from that, I have no sponsors or other financial compensation. This has been my model and strategy from day one, and I don't intend on changing it.
      I've also found a way to streamline the process, so that my efforts into video creation don't consume too much of my time. I have a broadcast background from college and spent time as on-air talent in television. I one-take my videos, edit, create a thumbnail, and upload to TH-cam all in less than 2 hours. It's about balance. Efficiency is key for me. Since my time spent is low, the ROI in the way of Google AdSense mailbox money is enough. It's just the icing on the cake as it's not what I'm trying to achieve.
      This is simply my approach. It works for me. It may work for others or may not. Some like it, some don't. I appreciate your curiosity, Brian. This is probably far more than your bargained for, but I hope it answers your questions nonetheless. You do great work. Keep it up!

    I see you have a pretty nice home, awesome for you! Really. You must have a good day job that supports that nice of abode.
    I see your channel makes over $600 a month on average, and that's also great. I also had a great job before I retired. But to capture your audience with mind games as you've said others do, just to clarify, that's a mind game.
    $600 a month; not a bad supplementation to a regular salary. Keep up the good work on you content and leave other TH-camrs alone. Just some friendly advice from an old man on Social Security.

You'd have to know the backstory to understand why I can't just "leave other TH-camrs alone". Sadly, it's typically children and elderly folks who are being manipulated the most online. Unfortunately, they don't want to hear how their "social media" fun isn't what it seems. Someone out there has to talk about it. I'm not the only one. More people need to listen.
