Hey Ronnie ! Great Video ! I really enjoyed watching it ! I am new to Jig tying and your Video has given me some great information and your technique of tying ! Thank you very much for sharing ! I know it has helped me ! I am pretty sure it has helped others ! Take Care and Be Safe , hope to see more of your videos soon !
Larry, thank you. It’s people like you I hope to help. Tying is an art and each Tyer will do things a little different at times. The guys that were there for me when I was learning were always so helpful with all their knowledge. This craft is definitely enjoyable even after all my years of tying I still enjoy my time at the vise.
@@stumphunter100 Ronnie , I appreciate that ! I am new to jig tying , but I am an avid fisherman ! Have been fishing since I saw six years ago ! I am 72 years old ! I have never stopped learning, and I sincerely hope, I never stop ! But I Am very sincere in the things I say ! I have a long way to go in learning the Art of Tying Jigs , I have only told one other person that, I believe it is an ART ! Just by looking at a person's work ! Thank you again, for giving me the inspiration of tying my own jigs ! Take Care and Be Safe
When I started learning, I was using cheap feathers from a Dollar store. I also tied my feathers like you do. But my feathers had the tips cut flat...so I just tied mine with the "V's". I used 1/80th round head jigs. The one thing I discovered was to tie in the proportion of the size of the jig.
Thank you for explaining the “v’s” I could never figure out their purpose. I’ve been tying on a small puff of Maribu to bulk up the tail part some. I put it on in front of hackle tail, then after two wraps, spread it around the hook shank 360 degrees then sench It down good. I personally have used the v’s but I found maribu was easier for me to tie down and I like the action it gives. Have you ever tried this?
I really like Maribor used in the tails of a jig for single pole fish like dock shooting or used under a float. I have mixed the two together and I do like the added movements of the Maribor. If it works why not use it 😊 That’s why I love tying my own jigs and flies, there’s more combinations then we could ever tie or use. Thanks for watching the videos.
Hey McKee I’ve been looking on your eBay account and you make wonderful looking flys I was wondering if you could do a mystery box of 45 flys. How much would that be? I am a new fly fisher and just wanted to buy multiple types of flys to learn with.
Excellent excellent teaching. Thanks
Thanks!

Gene Sloan you are right about proportions to jig size and it’s something that each Tyer has to learn . Hours spent tying can not be replaced 👍🏻
Keep it up

The hackle feathers you are using comes from the neck or saddle of the chicken.
You will want to use saddle hackle. Most saddles will have feathers sizes for flies up to jig size.
