If there is one thing I've learned from climbing the ladder solo, when you are in plat or below there is a single most important rule for you to keep in your head: it's better to be with your team in a bad position than without your team in a good position.

The premium quickplay support experience is queuing Mercy, watching your tank leap into the open arms of the entire enemy team, get stomped in two seconds, then complain that you didn't heal them.

Mf would be at like 50 health, I’d start healing, get him to maybe 100-150, then he’d just jump completely out of my LOS to 1v5 the enemy team even though it was completely unnecessary, die, repeat. There was no hero I could really switch to so I could dive with him and keep him alive either, since my mains are Mercy, Moira, and Ana and he would ALWAYS find a way to either break LOS if I was healing from a distance, dodge the orb I would specifically send to heal him, or just straight up abandon me if I dove in to save him. That last one also happened a few times. Where he’d be close to dying, I’d dive in, get him to at least half and keep heals on him so he would pretty much be guaranteed to survive, but he’d still jump super far away and suddenly id be dead in the water
Or in my case, "Behind A Damn Wall!" Especially on the new maps. I can't count how many times I've been Healing, as Mercy, down an alley or corridor and the person I'm healing moves away from the alley or corridor I'm standing in and immediately dies. Like, you KNOW where I am because there's a big ass beam linking us and you, willingly, put a wall between us. That's on you buddy. I can't beam or fly through a physical wall. Like if I'm playing Zen or Ana, fair enough, but if I'm Mercy, there's no excuse for that. Mercy's Heal is a fat ass yellow beam. There's no excuse for not knowing where your Mercy is, especially if YOU are the one being pocketed.

i think support characters say it automatically when they're damaged. I main Kiriko and whenever i hear ana in the backline say "i need help" or something like that I turn around and heal them

The disparity between platnium and diamond players is crazy. I remember rolling every match when i deranked to plat and then diamond hit and all of a sudden everyone was competent again
Diamond is where the actual game begins, everything before that is a very convoluted tutorial on game sense, hero mechanics, team synergy, mechanical skill, and positioning.
As plat/dia/masters player, I don't see the difference. Low plat game might fuck me way more than low masters game, and it's not even that rare. Maybe hardstuck plats feel that dia is so different but I and my friends who vascillate between these ranks just feel like they're all pretty much the same.
As someone who's been in plat since OW1's release: yeah. I feel what often makes/breaks a lot of games in solo queue is the plethora of people you have to cooperate with. Some games go really well because everyone understands when to engage/disengage, when to assist their teammate, will take responsibility for a poor choice and recalibrate, etc. Other games end up a miserable loss because there's no synergy, be it in the team composition or the player understanding, and oftentimes players blame everyone around them or a specific person. There's also the probability of getting a leaver/griefer who'd rather take the loss/penalty instead of engaging in self discipline. I'm guilty of this mentality, it's why I've been in plat for almost 7 years. I'm guilty of wanting to give up, wanting it to be over just to try again, or feeling like I've done nothing wrong in certain matches. It's hard to break that mindset, especially after logging 1200+ hours into a game. However, for the first time this year, I hit Diamond, and I felt incredible. All because I put my head down and listened to the advice pros teach. High rank streamers, pros, and professional coaches stress the importance of the mindset. Yes, some may be more naturally talented at the game than others, but it's not impossible to get up there yourself. You have to be willing to grow your mentality to climb the ranks, to push yourself beyond your comfort zone and learn how to think like a team, communicate, and challenge yourself by honing mechanical skills, game/map awareness, and so on. Most of all, trust yourself, trust your team, and just have fun. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Anyways that's enough spewing nonsense. Thanks for the upload Flats.
People skills are just as important as game skills in plat. So many arrogant, ignorant, egotistical players that you have to sweet talk so they stay/become cooperative and don't give up immediately or just straight up leave the game.
I was plat if not almost to diamond as support. After season 3 launched I actively watched my teams teamwork get worse and worse every game as I continued to lose. The comp system had me as a silver 1 tank and silver 1 support. The games would be immensely different if I queued tank vs sup. Now that season 4 hit my tank role jumped to plat, havnt lost yet about to hit diamond on it. Support went down to silver 3, still can't get a single win. Getting more elims and dmg than the tank or dps. It is kind of funny tbh
God, I wish this is how my Plat games went. Teams breaking formation, splitting off in five different directions, coming from behind and the sides one at a time... ...I mean, they *_do,_* but it's usually *_my_* team that tries it while I'm alone near point trying to defend alone. Also, "HEY, JEFF, WHATCHA PLAYIN'?!"
Yeah I wish more high elo players did this its easy for them to forget how the rest of us play the elos where people aren't aim gods counters don't work becuase the team isn't competent enough to work around them and teams are just deathmatches.

2:00 this is how Junkertown C plays in Diamond and below, in my experience. No one tries to control the fidget spinner, so the underpass with the mega is a free flank. That or the whole team gets sucked into fighting in that underpass and forgets about the payload. Not uncommon for both things to happen at various points in the same game from both teams.
as a zen main there’s two types of games i have, one where i get dove all the time and barely play and times i get top damage, healing close to the other healer and top kills in all the game there’s literally not a middle ground only those games and it’s an unhealthy addiction
I will say as a support new to ow my games in gold/plat are confusing af. Half the time Im just running in circles being dived by 2 people while my 2 dps disregard los and rage at me for not healing.
I honestly can't tell you enough how reassuring this video was for me as a support player, especially a Bap main. Watching your plays and trying to understand why your doing the things your doing and WHEN your doing them and having the moment of "okay good I've been making the right moves. Unfortunately im in bronze hell after being high silver last season. Here's to try to escape! Any tips on ranking up? I've been getting the same rank adjustment 6 times in a row.
It's just luck for a bit. I have been Gold 1 in support several times and deranked to bronze after inactivity. On the climb back up there were stretches where I go 5-6, 5-8 several times in a row because of crappy matchmaking (multiple "diamond challenger" flairs on the other team while I'm in silver) or just teams that won't take the point unguarded or take out an easy mercy who revives the tank 4 times a match. Or just some noob like one support or one DPS who ends up with only 800 damage or healing in the match. Sometimes I'd go like 5-6 and still rank up a number. Slowly but surely teams got better and the competition got real. This latest season silver was a real slog, stroke of luck while Season 1 was easy for me, again likely just because of a lucky batch of games with competent teammates or games where the OTHER team got a shitty noob or someone left. To support the idea that it's luck - Blizzard has stated you can be matched within two divisions of your MMR (!!!!). And they acknowledged a bug recently that said the matchmaking was showing even greater matched disparity - Three divisions? That means a Diamond can end up matching with a silver!!! And MMR is not necessarily your displayed rank. So you can be a gold-caliber player and end up matched with a team of bronze noobs playing a hero for the first time for fun. When they're that bad there's nothing you can do to carry them as support.
I'd say try playing a support that can carry a bit easier like Moira or Ana. Bap is great but he can't carry teams easily unless you're hitting those headshots very reliably and getting 2+ picks quickly each fight. At least that's my experience. I've climbed out of the trenches with Moira just making stupid backing plays because in low ELO teams don't react effectively enough, or they chase too hard when you retreat
As a plat supp, his timing on abilities and healing seemed a little sloppy tbh. (No hate, just my gut reaction) But, his good positioning and strong dps'ing seems to make up for it.
I don’t miss being in plat tbh I win a lot more games now that I’m diamond cause everyone plays a lot smarter and my team actually works to help keep me safe in the back when I’m support (mostly if I’m mercy) a lot of tanks are very aware as well and the DPS positioning is so much better. I had a game as mercy that I didn’t die once cause my Dps and tanks were so aware of their Surroundings like I swear they heard any micro foot step it was crazzzy
Coming to the realization that the Flats i saw on the other team of one of my plat games might not have been an impersonator. I was just like “yeah no shot flats would end up in one of my lobbies”

I've learned from what little comp I can tolerate is that people love having a wall behind their back if you play Ana. So you have to constantly be at angles where you can actually play her as intended.
At least you're healing and shooting. Had an Ana last night thought she was widowmaker then had the audacity to say tank diff when they had like 800 healing at the end of a whole payload run.

Trying to convince your team members to stick together is absolutely brutal and makes “climbing” almost near impossible when you’re doing everything you can healing and damage-wise. Glad flats is seeing the disparity for himself☠️🤷🏽♂️
sometimes the games be so goofy in plat. like when everyone including the enemy's are out of position good positions turn into bad ones. like if im playing ana either i cant get los on my team or there's a random enemy brig in my spot. like wtf is a brig doing on the highground in our backline? why is our tracer frontlining? why is our mcree playing widowmaker? how did our mcree kill widowmaker!?!?!?! edit: im diamond 1 now and i've been doing pretty well ever since i reached diamond, made an alt account and i played how i usually did and it didn't work at all lmao
The support experience wether it’s high rank, mid rank or low rank, or even the casual players. Is a interesting one, and I think everyone would agree- your either the only one dead or everyone else is dead but you. Sometimes support feels like a genuine fever dream

Plat players and not having cohesive team fights -name a better duo lmao. Reason they feel so slow, is because people trickle into- and out of fights. Very rarely do you have a collective push, you'll see one person dare their way in from a flank and half commit, then a couple seconds later the tank pushes, then they pull back due to low resources but the other dps who was late to the party is full on resources still and wants to go in swinging, so you get this weird sensation of not truly fighting a full team, like, ever. And time-to-kill is also super low due to this fact since it means focus fire of any degree is void. Not happening. Then add on top aim inconsistency and everything just ends up feeling like an rng setup where you never really know where things are gonna progress (or regress, like when you saw them all just inexplicably back off right before you used your Kitsune rush lol). All of this multiples exponentially the further down the ranks you go. Diamond you just get people with good aim, Masters you start seeing some degree of cohesiveness in team fights and legitimate pressure and tempo, and only in GM do you get the feeling that there are actually two teams on either side, not just 5 grouped deathmatch players distributed with two team colors and no friendly fire.
Plat is different than the top 500 players in the world. No shit that's why people get pissed about balancing the game around the top .00001% of the playerbase.
I can't tell you how many times in the past I used to tell my teammates "Hey, do x or y" then they would flame me saying I don't know what I'm doing. Then I say "Check my profile. GM tank" and then they just stopped talking. I don't talk in my diamond dps/support games anymore lol. I just play Moira, Zen, Bap and run their backline
7:46 he didnt leave he most likely dc'd from the game and i see it happen to a lot of people, i once lost a match like this because i dc'd 2 times and i couldnt rejoin right away and no its my internet connection, everything else was fine
Me and my friend are duo supports and climbing through plat is pure unfiltered chaos. Tanks believing we can outheal the dmg, damage running into the open arms of a team to fight a 1v5 or simply dodging our heals when we’re right behind them…pain. Half the time we’re the only ones left standing and it’s a mad scramble back to spawn or to hold point whilst aggressively healing one another.

I’ve been watching your content for a long time, I think you were around 10-15k when I first started watching (iirc it was the eskay wedding video) and I fell in love with your content immediately. As a fellow masshole, your content and personality was a perfect fit for someone who’s been playing Overwatch casually since launch. I’ve never been much one for watching twitch streams, but it’d be hard to find one of your uploads that I haven’t watched. great changes but honestly until they break competitive play into solo/group play this game will never be a realistic competitor with actual ranked systems. playing this game as solo is completely miserable going up against elo inflated 3 -5 stacks over and over, who are actually entire tiers below their rank in skill but have constant communication and teamwork on their side compared to the solo or even duo experience.

I think Support characters should have "I need healing" changed to "I need help" I think it fits better
There's a dedicated voice line you can set to a hotkey that makes characters say they need help. Check the keyboard bindings.

2:00 this is how Junkertown C plays in Diamond and below, in my experience. No one tries to control the fidget spinner, so the underpass with the mega is a free flank. That or the whole team gets sucked into fighting in that underpass and forgets about the payload. Not uncommon for both things to happen at various points in the same game from both teams.

as a zen main there’s two types of games i have, one where i get dove all the time and barely play
and times i get top damage, healing close to the other healer and top kills in all the game
there’s literally not a middle ground only those games and it’s an unhealthy addiction
I will say as a support new to ow my games in gold/plat are confusing af.
Half the time Im just running in circles being dived by 2 people while my 2 dps disregard los and rage at me for not healing.
I honestly can't tell you enough how reassuring this video was for me as a support player, especially a Bap main. Watching your plays and trying to understand why your doing the things your doing and WHEN your doing them and having the moment of "okay good I've been making the right moves. Unfortunately im in bronze hell after being high silver last season. Here's to try to escape! Any tips on ranking up? I've been getting the same rank adjustment 6 times in a row.
It's just luck for a bit. I have been Gold 1 in support several times and deranked to bronze after inactivity. On the climb back up there were stretches where I go 5-6, 5-8 several times in a row because of crappy matchmaking (multiple "diamond challenger" flairs on the other team while I'm in silver) or just teams that won't take the point unguarded or take out an easy mercy who revives the tank 4 times a match. Or just some noob like one support or one DPS who ends up with only 800 damage or healing in the match. Sometimes I'd go like 5-6 and still rank up a number. Slowly but surely teams got better and the competition got real. This latest season silver was a real slog, stroke of luck while Season 1 was easy for me, again likely just because of a lucky batch of games with competent teammates or games where the OTHER team got a shitty noob or someone left.
To support the idea that it's luck - Blizzard has stated you can be matched within two divisions of your MMR (!!!!). And they acknowledged a bug recently that said the matchmaking was showing even greater matched disparity - Three divisions? That means a Diamond can end up matching with a silver!!! And MMR is not necessarily your displayed rank. So you can be a gold-caliber player and end up matched with a team of bronze noobs playing a hero for the first time for fun. When they're that bad there's nothing you can do to carry them as support.
I'd say try playing a support that can carry a bit easier like Moira or Ana. Bap is great but he can't carry teams easily unless you're hitting those headshots very reliably and getting 2+ picks quickly each fight. At least that's my experience. I've climbed out of the trenches with Moira just making stupid backing plays because in low ELO teams don't react effectively enough, or they chase too hard when you retreat

As a plat supp, his timing on abilities and healing seemed a little sloppy tbh. (No hate, just my gut reaction) But, his good positioning and strong dps'ing seems to make up for it.
I don’t miss being in plat tbh I win a lot more games now that I’m diamond cause everyone plays a lot smarter and my team actually works to help keep me safe in the back when I’m support (mostly if I’m mercy) a lot of tanks are very aware as well and the DPS positioning is so much better. I had a game as mercy that I didn’t die once cause my Dps and tanks were so aware of their Surroundings like I swear they heard any micro foot step it was crazzzy
Coming to the realization that the Flats i saw on the other team of one of my plat games might not have been an impersonator. I was just like “yeah no shot flats would end up in one of my lobbies”

@@edb36mar oh not any where in the video it was like 8-10 days ago i was just solo queuing trying to get out of plat and there was a Flats on the other team and i was just immediately like oh its a fake account for sure. But like maybe it wasnt a fake 😳
I've learned from what little comp I can tolerate is that people love having a wall behind their back if you play Ana. So you have to constantly be at angles where you can actually play her as intended.

that and ana feels inconsistent sometimes. like there are games where i have 73% scoped accuracy and low heals, other games where i have 62% accuracy and higher heals

Trying to convince your team members to stick together is absolutely brutal and makes “climbing” almost near impossible when you’re doing everything you can healing and damage-wise. Glad flats is seeing the disparity for himself☠️🤷🏽♂️

I’m convinced elo hell is real. I’ve been play for 6 years and in the last 2 days I went from plat to masters. Games feel easier in masters.
Now imagine how much worse it is in silver and gold. I can only dream of being in plat 😅🤣

sometimes the games be so goofy in plat. like when everyone including the enemy's are out of position good positions turn into bad ones. like if im playing ana either i cant get los on my team or there's a random enemy brig in my spot. like wtf is a brig doing on the highground in our backline? why is our tracer frontlining? why is our mcree playing widowmaker? how did our mcree kill widowmaker!?!?!?!

The support experience wether it’s high rank, mid rank or low rank, or even the casual players. Is a interesting one, and I think everyone would agree- your either the only one dead or everyone else is dead but you. Sometimes support feels like a genuine fever dream

As a plat player -- the whole "wtf is happening" thing happens every game
the most annoying thing as support are
Diver, flankers, "need healing spammer", and teammates that stand still in the open thinks he's invisible
You forgot healer hiders and people who think they should be invincible just because they’re getting some healing, full send it and die
It feels like every other ranked game I play somone disconnects from the game.
The Lucio rollouts go hard
Plat players and not having cohesive team fights -name a better duo lmao.
Reason they feel so slow, is because people trickle into- and out of fights. Very rarely do you have a collective push, you'll see one person dare their way in from a flank and half commit, then a couple seconds later the tank pushes, then they pull back due to low resources but the other dps who was late to the party is full on resources still and wants to go in swinging, so you get this weird sensation of not truly fighting a full team, like, ever. And time-to-kill is also super low due to this fact since it means focus fire of any degree is void. Not happening.
Then add on top aim inconsistency and everything just ends up feeling like an rng setup where you never really know where things are gonna progress (or regress, like when you saw them all just inexplicably back off right before you used your Kitsune rush lol).
All of this multiples exponentially the further down the ranks you go. Diamond you just get people with good aim, Masters you start seeing some degree of cohesiveness in team fights and legitimate pressure and tempo, and only in GM do you get the feeling that there are actually two teams on either side, not just 5 grouped deathmatch players distributed with two team colors and no friendly fire.

Me and my friend are duo supports and climbing through plat is pure unfiltered chaos. Tanks believing we can outheal the dmg, damage running into the open arms of a team to fight a 1v5 or simply dodging our heals when we’re right behind them…pain. Half the time we’re the only ones left standing and it’s a mad scramble back to spawn or to hold point whilst aggressively healing one another.

great changes but honestly until they break competitive play into solo/group play this game will never be a realistic competitor with actual ranked systems. playing this game as solo is completely miserable going up against elo inflated 3 -5 stacks over and over, who are actually entire tiers below their rank in skill but have constant communication and teamwork on their side compared to the solo or even duo experience.
