  • This tutorial from The Potomac Bead Company demonstrates how to make chain link jewelry using wire and your choice of chain. When making these necklaces or bracelets, you will use your choice of beads, wire, and chain. Enjoy!

Hi Very pretty chain! Thank you for sharing. No one has a video showing the difference in sizes of cable chain.

What is the strongest chain to use for making necklaces? I've found that the chains purchased at Michael's and JoAnn are weak.

+traceyosr I'm not really sure what the craft stores sell, but we use the high quality Italian chains (they come in sterling plated brass, vintage brass, & shiny brass/gold), or sterling silver for nearly everything we do. Those chains hold up well over time under nearly any conditions.

Hi Charlene, it can be tricky sometimes to repair fine chains with beading supplies because we're not usually working with such thin metals. It's OK to be a bit creative and come up with some clever ideas to fix things our way. Perhaps browse through some findings and see what you can adapt to your problem. Sometimes a crimp ending with a loop on one end, that's normally used for thin leather cord, can be crimped over the end of a fine chain and a jump ring attached to the loop. You can also post some photos of your piece to our Facebook group for Beading and Jewelery Making, lots of beaders there to offer suggestions and innovative ideas!
