Mix2Mold - Don't Do This

  • Some things shouldn’t be attempted, but how do we learn if we don’t play and figure out what doesn’t work.
I had high hopes for the turtle but it didn’t work out as planned. That’s okay, not all is lost, still possible to fix and make something cool with this piece.
As for the other two pieces, as mentioned in the video, there are some different ways to possibly decorate the shell. Another I came up with after the video was to use diamond art pieces that aren’t used up when doing the diamond art kits. I got some from a friend of mine, and they may work on the shell. The challenge will be finding the best way to adhere them to the back of the turtle but I have some ideas floating around.
    Products used in this video:
    Turtle mold - TH-cam: @LETSRESIN
    Mix2Mold - ceramic resin powder & pigment colours: TH-cam: @BreaReeseArt1
The last thing I would like to mention, when it comes to your CREATIVITY, please know you are creative, even though you may not think you are or someone may have said you aren’t. In my course Being Intentionally Creative, I break that myth because I know, and you will as you follow me, that we are all creative, in one form or another, you simply have to look for where your creativity lives.

I mix my color with my water prior to adding to my powder. Mix it dark..darker than you think as the powder is white. It will soften the color. I mix two separate bowls of white for multiple color marbling for a bigger piece. Using 2 bowls measure out half the powder needed in each bowl. Half of what you need in each bowl. Measure water for each in two more separate containers. Shake dyes and take caps off all colors. Add water and mix the first batch quickly add drops of pigment use stick to minimally swirl the colors. Pour first batch in your mold. Put finger over dye tips reshake. Add water to the second batch, stir quickly, then drop pigments swirl and pour into mold to top off. Tap sides gently and quickly after each pour. This is the way I have been able to get good even color showing in my peice and be able to work efficiently. Hope this helps. 😊 we all have off days that go sideways in the craft room. I am glad to know I am not the only one it happens to. But that's how we learn together. ❤ Thanks for sharing and teaching us. I love the turtles ..so cute!

thank you for the walk thru, I continue to try different things to see what I can accomplish, some days, not much : ) - always appreciate others sharing what they do when it comes to working with different products

I always add the color to the water. I make the water super dark since the powder is super white. When i do the marbling, you def have to work extremely quick.
    Thanks for showing us!!

Hey, my turtle broke with the ecocrete and I put resin in the mold were the places where broken and stuck the turtle back in the mold and allowed it to set. It worked!!! And the piece turned out great. Very beautiful and unique.

Thanks for sharing all this with us. I just bought mix n mold but haven’t tried it yet. Your tips and tricks are ALWAYS helpful as far as I’m concerned. 🤩💥

I start feeling so anxious and rushed when I work with epoxy resin cuz I only have a 30 minute work time. Lol. This stuff would do me in!

The pieces you could use in regular resin peices like trays or coasters. Or try mixing the pieces in as a filler to a new piece so you use less mix to mold wet product? Not sure how that would work. Put pieces in a ziploc bag and color them some how and use them as listed.

I have some pieces I am going to put back into dust, by sanding. I like the ziploc idea, hadn't thought of that, wondered how I would colour pieces, and now you have given me a solution. awesome

Thank you for showing us this. Reminds me of the other day when I was doing some small plaster of paris molds for my grandkids to paint. I did Easter bunnies, eggs and other Easter themed molds (I use the molds to make soap embeds and wax melts as well), and that plaster of paris hardened up quickly and when unmolding the bunnies, a lot of them lost their ears. Talk about frustrating. But, like your turtles, I still got a few good ones so they could paint them. Thanks again.

I am glad you had some come out well. I find the pieces that don’t turn out well help us to come up with new ideas for future projects. Cheers to your grandkids having fun painting the pieces that came out properly 😃

Maybe add the colour to the water then stir into the powder. Stamping it or tattoos

Thanks for sharing your experience. I find sometimes adding the pigment makes it cure faster. Also, I think you can just whisk it fast and it will still mix well. In my experience anyway. I have added extra water and it does give you more time to work with it.
Do you remember where you got those silicone mixing bowls? They seem awesome.

The mixing bowls came with other packages. I know one was from Let’s Resin. Not sure about the other one.

Maybe do your shell with the mix2mold then the rest of the mold with epoxy resin.

As much as this piece may not prove useful to some, I will be keeping it. It will allow me to test out new ideas I have for the shell as far as decorating goes, I like to play and this piece is perfect for that. It has also allowed me to work on my sanding skills which is cool. There are pieces I have thrown out because I can't do anything with them, this piece is different. I see it proving to be very helpful in my creative endeavors.

I love your attitude 🤩. I would do the same re salvaging what I could for different uses. My Grandmother used to say, “waste not, want not”. Maybe that’s why I still have some some stuff from my childhood and clothes that go back decades😂

@@ARTBYSPARKLE - mom used to say waste not, want not... thanks for the walk down memory lane - I to have things from my childhood that I won't part with, they mean way too much to let go of : )

I haven't tried but I have considered, or wondered if it would work as well as when you first use the product out of the container.

I have used left over chips from cups and such in resin. Had colored my pieces by adding color to water first.

Não pode voltar! É gesso, caucita, e algum polímero fraco!
Depois da cura, o gesso é a caucita só servirão como caquinhos pra terrazos.... mas dá pra colorir....coloca num saquinho , coloca tinta, mistura, espera secar.
