So made a slight change since doing this video. Instead of a hole in the bottom that mounts your holder, if you make it a slot, then you can adjust the angle that your rod sits at. Best of luck to you!
So it wasn't my idea, I actually saw this on and old post on the Catfish1 forum. So far its working like a champ. A few modifications make it better. Instead of drilling a hole to put a screw through to mount it. Cut a slot and use a screw with a washer. That way the rod holder can be adjusted to what angle you would like.
Boone... great design! The only thing I would change is using lag bolts with a washer instead of screws. The lag bolts are stronger, and will bend rather than snap under a load. Those construction screws tend to snap (especially where the shank meets the threaded area) because they are made from hardened steel. BTW, you could probably find some "grommets" to fit the lower hole. They are made from rubber, come in standard sizes, and will protect the lower end of the rod handle from scuffing... I wonder if you could also just apply some silicone caulk... hmm...
Awesome Billy! Here is what I would do different now that I have used these for a couple years. Instead of drilling a hole through the PVC where the screw goes through to mount the holder to the wood, I would cut a slot, then I would use a washer on that screw. This way you would be able to adjust your angle of the rod holder. Other than that, these things work great!
Great idea... your 2x4 bank fish idea. An old Guy named Andy, too me and my Brother Catfishing in Marcine Idaho' s Snake River. It influenced me greatly. I never lost my Love for it. You hardly ever get Skunked. I use the " Wisker Seeker Rods.., and the Chad Ferguson method to ketch them; 5/0 Circle hook, 15 inch leader, peg foam float 3 inch from hook, and a 3 oz " no roll flat sinker slip weight above my leader. We always just useca a small chunk fresh chicken meat on hook.

Yes. I have thought about changing it to a big washer and cutting slots so I can change the angle of the pole. That is excellent. I need to do a similar setup for my pontoon as well.
All u need to do is remount those holders to b canted at more of a letter u shape instead of a letter c. That way your reel can actually sit inside the the the top cutout u made
I dunno, just haven't tried it that way. I have thought of adding a slot to the PVC pipe so that I can rotate the position of it to change the angle easily though.
Great design but you might wish to modify it so the reel or rod contacts something that stops a large fish or turtle from pulling your rod/reel setup out of your holder loosing it forever A local large private lake has a catfish tournament every summer and there are some huge blues and flatheads in the lake along with very large soft shell and snapping turtles and without fail people using DIY rod holders that don't lock their rod/reel in the holder loose several setups every year especially at night
I really don't know. I have been able to use it on my bass tracker as well as my pontoon. I have caught a bunch of catfish using it but all less than 10 lbs so far. It is pretty stout PVC I used so time will tell. I don't think it will have any problems if I hooked a 25 - 30 pounder but don't really know yet.
@@UserFormelyKnownAs_hjkh Only up to about 10 pounds so far, but I am gonna hit it pretty hard after hunting season and see if I can't hook up on some bigger fish.
@@BooneDownSouth good deal buddy, im in the same boat...to hunt or to fish? Around here, fall and winter are hot for big blues! Youll have to follow up and let us know if you get a big one to put some pressure on it. Id bet itll do fine though!
Thus is a great idea for a budget build man. Thank you for sharing. I don't have a lot of money so this will help me out a lot! Awesome idea!

@@BooneDownSouth NICE! Thank you.
Great idea. Looks real good. Thanks for sharing. I found your video hunting for rod holder ideas for my 8 ft. Pond Prowler.

Really super Idea, thanks my dear for this nice video ❤
Thank you.
Best idea I have seen by far...thanks again.
Thank you Sherman!

Yep that is a good idea and I would also put a slot instead of a hole through the PVC so you can adjust the angle too.
You know your stuff boone!
Yes you are right

Would make good bank fishing Rod holder as well. 2x4 mounted on a stake .
Eugene.. Yea you are right. I never even thought about that but shoot yea that would work good.

Thanks baddboat! They are still working well for me.
I have these on my pontoon all around the rails. They are slotted for adjustments

You can add a stub piece of pipe glued in to the back part so it will help protect the butt end of your rod grip
Yea that's an interesting idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

The other thing I thought about was making the screw hole a slot so I can rotate them to whatever angle I want.
Why you didn’t slide the reel behind the seater , inside the pipe , this way it would not slip forward, like the idea
I dunno, just haven't tried it that way. I have thought of adding a slot to the PVC pipe so that I can rotate the position of it to change the angle easily though.

How are they doing after the test of time? Whats the heaviest fish youve caught
They are still working great and biggest fish is about 10 lbs.
Pretty slick!
It is still holding up to the test of time too!
