I thought it was more "The Three Amigos" + "The Seven Samurai," primarily because the so-called Warriors are under the impression they are there for entertainment, rather than as hired muscle. It's only after the reality sets in, and after a pep-talk that the circus bugs do what they can to fight for the ants. The samurai, though, always knew how to fight, and had every intention of doing so once they were making their way to the village. The same goes for "The Magnificent Seven."

dude come on Kurosawa is one of the most famous filmmakers of all time, most people know him without even having seen any of his movies, let alone the amount of casual, to nerdy film fans that watch his stuff or cite his influences, let alone filmmakers themselves that always mention him. This isn't 1920s-1950s black-and-white movies we're talking about that next to no young people have seen. He has probably the most popular black-and-white movies by far. Please, don't sound like a pretentious film buff.

I have an opinion and an experience with something and you insult me for it because it doesn't perfectly correspond with your own. I'm glad that those around you seem to know about Kurosawa, but please don't act as if your experience is that of everyone else. I've never met a single person in my home town that recognized his name when I asked them about it. That is a fact, and that is why I made my comment.
I'll continue to spread awareness of his works, even if that somehow makes me pretentious, because I think film history should be revered, not forgotten, and it brings happiness and connections to those in my life.

I live in a small town where everyone is a uncultured ignorant American, for the most part. so what? I'm not an idiot like you who believes that their town represents the majority of cultural awareness, I understand where I come from and I understand culture. you are the epitome of a pretentious pompous fool. again, my intention isn't one of hate or insult. Ya Boi Solzhenitsyn. Yes, the entire plot is deeply rooted in early westerns. In fact, the concept of Samurai being a heroic figure for the lowest rungs of society was probably notable to the films Japanese viewers.

I very much liked this video. Got my sub.
But you pause at the end of every second sentence I swear. Personally it makes it very hard to listen to. Really does break up the commentary and lessens the impact from something profound or intresting that DOES deserve a pause.
Writing is great but improved speaking could make it feel even better.

Great video, though it becomes very difficult to stay invested when you keep... drawing... out... your sentences. I know it may be for clear enunciation and emphasis, but it stops having a beneficial effect when... you... use... it all the time. No joke, I almost put this in 1.25x or even 1.5x speed because it felt that slow.
    Very interesting points nonetheless

The way you pause randomly in the middle of sentences - in an attempt to lend them a sense of significance, I suppose? - gets really distracting after a while. It sounds like you're trying to emulate Nerdwriter but going way too far, like you're doing a satirical exaggerated impression of video essay narration.
Which is a shame, because everything else is pretty great.

Actually, the use of the word literally as a way to exaggerate something is recognized by Merriam-Webster. Language evolves over time, if everybody uses a word wrong then the people who use it correctly are in the minority.

    • @viciousclam2417
      @viciousclam2417 6 ปีที่แล้ว +35

The definition didn't change, it was added to. Also, you actually COULD use "figuratively" in the place of "literally". Except, whereas using "literally" ironically has an exaggerating effect using "figuratively" ironically would have a diminishing effect. I could say (btw I'm not attempting to make this political this is just the first example that came to mind) Donald Trump is figuratively the president and that would imply that, although he is literally the president, his position might as well be figurative for one reason or another. At the end of the day if you understand what anyone means by using a particular turn of phrase then it doesn't matter if they use it incorrectly. Ironically, that's how figurative speech works.

Is it weird that I don't want you to be a full time TH-camr? It might sound selfish but the amount of thought and time you put into your work would be countered by the amount of videos you have to put out just to maintain a certain income. I have seen the quality of some channels go down because they think that they love what they do so much but in the end they get tired of that love and move away to something else just to get more money. I love this channel and how the videos are deep and have much thought into them but all that would be lost if you work on it every day. As I was growing up I was told "Don't do what you love, do what you can live with" and I see what they mean. If you do what you love then it is like putting all your wood into the fire, it becomes nothing but ash and the fire is gone. The passion leaves you, and you find a different love. I do love this channel and I hope that if you do become a full time TH-camr that you make sure that you don't burn out. I respect what you do with your life but I would just want thought I should give a bit of advice.

I actually asked someone who worked on A Bug’s Life about the film’s inspiration and he said that the movie was originally more of a remake of Seven Samurai and the original title of the film was “Seven Bugs”. The original version stayed more close to the original movie in terms of its story, but when they decided that the film would be about circus bugs that were mistaken for warriors instead, that lead to them changing the title. He pretty much said that Pixar in no way were hiding that they were making an animated remake of or loosely based on Seven Samurai.

It's often said that there is no such thing as originality. And that saying is right. Nothing is original, because someone has done/said/achieved that thing many times before. But it isn't the goal that is supposed to be original, it's really how you achieve that goal and/or how you represent it that can be original.
Take Game of Thrones for example (the tv show), it's a series of stories that connect through being a political epic, but yet is actually a story about a great kingdom in peril, being torn apart by false kings and corrupt soldiers, while waiting for the return of the rightful ruler who will bring peace. We saw how that comes to be in season 1, with the deaths of Robert and Ned sparking the war, as they were the two people holding it all together. In seasons 2 & 3, we see the war and how it's affecting everybody. Seasons 4 & 5 deal in the aftermath of that war. But seasons 6 & 7 are about recovering and rebuilding. And while we know nothing about season 8, I highly expect that someone will take the throne and usher in a new era of peace, restarting the cycle once more.
We've seen this story retold many times over, but what makes it feel like something we haven't seen before on a first viewing is actually how it's represented and told to us. Everything is fine and well, until things go bad. We see the hurt and turmoil from a perspective that sinks in, allowing for us to feel what the characters feel. And every time it gets worse, we long for that peace and happiness that we felt at the beginning. Even the person who will usher in a new area of peace is kept hidden, until the very end. That's what separates it from all the others.
